Once again, my friend's bakery in Bilouxi - Cheeky Monkey Cake Company - is up for "Best King Cake" and the final round of voting has begun. She's a small, independent bakery, and is up against Rouses - a supermarket chain with hundreds of employees. We've noticed that last round, as we would ramp up voting, their numbers would jump by 40 or more almost instantly - which says to us somebody set up a voting bot of some kind. Her king cakes are truly amazing - I was fortunate enough to have one brought up to me a couple years ago when a US friend was here for work, and another when I was in Texas for a cake show. They are SO good. AND she ships all over the US Cheeky Monkey King CakesIf you have a moment - no signing up for anything is required - and want to help a small bakery win over a giant supermarket, here's the voting link: Vote for the best king cake - Cheeky Monkey!Thank you!! ETA - Thank you all for voting. She knew going in Rouse's would win but wanted to beat out her smaller mom & pop bakeries It closes at noon today (Monday) - thank you!!

Voted!! I love a good King Cake. We have always had friends that were from LA and during the season would head home and grab several cakes. They would bring them to choir and we would gobble them down. My year was made a couple of years ago when DD went down to NOLA to visit her best friend. They did parades and all the things. She brought me a cake back. I cut it up and put it in the freezer. I did NOT share.

OMG I visited her website and I just LOVE the serving knife she is selling. Everyone knows that the knife stays in the box. This is the way. As a native New Orleanian, I am partial to Randazzo's but I might have to venture out to the next state for my king cake craving.

Voted. Is this a vote every day kind of thing? I’m pretty sure it let me vote 3 times in a row. After that, a verification thingy came up.

Voted. We had a King Cake for the first time a few years ago when a neighbor gifted us one. I have to admit the purple & green don't appeal to me so my mouth wasn't prepared for the absolute delight of the cake.

I voted for her!
Question- I did not grow up with King Cakes, and never heard of them until a few years ago. They are very good!
why does the knife stay in the box? Traditional, superstition or some other reason?

Voted. Is this a vote every day kind of thing? It is a vote multiple times in a row thing LOL Our little cake chat group has a few of them who will watch tv and vote, refresh, vote, refresh.... It eventually makes you do a captcha to prove you are human lol

Traditional, superstition or some other reason? I believe it is so that there is always a knife the box so you can cut a piece every time you walk by LOL

I voted for her! Question- I did not grow up with King Cakes, and never heard of them until a few years ago. They are very good! why does the knife stay in the box? Traditional, superstition or some other reason? This was just how I was taught and I never dared to ask the question. My assumption is that when the mood strikes, the cutting utensil is right there ready to go. The other rule is that if you get the baby, you have to provide the next king cake. The rule varies on what the deadline is (some say within two days), but in school, we had our weekly king cake on Fridays.
