... thoughts, prayers and wishes her way. We had a really perfect birthday with mum on Friday and this morning at 1 a.m. she fell and broke her hip.  I had just decided to go to bed when I heard two thuds, the first one louder than the second. 8.5 hours in the ER, several hours wait in hospital room with the message that she would probably have surgery today. She'll have a rod in the femur and some pins. Had exact same thing on the other side 10 years ago. She was a very young 83 then. We're praying she makes it through with no cognitive impairment and with an excellent prognosis for recovery. I am pretty sure she's ready to work hard in rehab, but it might all be a bit much. My sister and I are having a bit of a rest at home and will head to the hospital soon. Wishing you all well, Liz |

Oh no, how awful! I will be thinking about your mum, and hoping for a successful operation and an easy recovery. Please update us once she is out of surgery.

I am wishing your mum the absolute very best and quick healing. I worry about my dad (83) falling and your mum’s fall was my worst nightmare. Is she in Canada? Shall I send her some candied ginger from Purdy’s?

here's hoping your mom does as well as mine did when she broke her hip at age 89. Best of luck!!
Interestingly, the surgeon said that in most cases the hip breaks first, then they fall.

I'm exhausted. Will try to write more in the next day or two. It seems Mum's surgery went really well. She was very confused and had a terrifying experience in the recovery room. She thought she was in a human parts warehouse of some sort. She was freaking out. I know it's not uncommon for elderly people coming out from under anaesthesia, but it made us so sad to know how terrified she'd been. She told us the story many times.
