I was just scrolling a second and stopped at a mom doing their kid's hair.. and she said "stop with the comments about washing hair in the kitchen sink".
Is this REALLY controversial (or is she just saying?). My mom did that with us kids when we were little and I did with my kids as well. I thought that was normal?
It wasn't all the time.. I can't even remember why? Probably it was at the time where kids were horrible about getting all the soap out and it was easy to pop them on the counter and do it for them.
Of course, the sink was cleaned before/after.. but I have never gave it a second thought.
I see why she was doing it. It appears her kids were mixed heritage while mom had long blonde hair, her kids had dark mostly curly hair. From what I understand that usually takes a lot more product to tame the hair.
Edited to add: I LOVED it when my mom did my hair in the sink..it felt so good.. except the part where she had to get under the neck.. haha

My hair was washed at the sink if I wasn't able to take a bath due to a surgery or get my skin wet due to an injury.
After my breast surgery to remove the lump, I had to wait 2 weeks before my site could be wet. So I washed my hair at the sink and then sponge bathed in the tub with a little water to sit in.
Ds took baths at the sink and I washed his hair at the sink too when he had his CVL.
I know a lot of people wash their kids hair at the sink so they can stay dressed due to the various steps needed for their hair care.
Like wth. Do what works. 🤷🏻♀️

I don’t know if it is controversial, but my mom never washed our hair in the sink, and I’ve never washed my boys hair in the sink. I guess now it is easier with faucets that have removable spray nozzles, but I can’t imagine myself trying to get my boys head under a faucet.

A lot of parents/caregivers have their child kay flat and their head hanging over into the sink with neck support. They use a cup to rinse. Very similar to getting your hair washed at the salon. When younger my mom would just move the sink faucet around. It was high and arched so it was easy to do. For ds he would lay down and I would use a cup.

My mom and my grandma occasionally washed my hair in the sink and I know I did DS's hair there as well sometimes. I don't see what the controversy is about.

Probably more sanitary than bathing babies in the kitchen sink--or dumping the baby tub there. And I have done both the kids' hair and the baby bathing. One advantage is you can stand rather than crawl on your knees when doing this in the bathtub or shower. And the taps are higher up in the kitchen sink than in the bathroom sink. Our kitchen sink also had a one tap system that could be closed off with a one-handed push down rather than trying to close two separate taps as was the case in our bathrooms those days.

Why would this be controversial?
I had eye surgery a couple years ago where I had to lie face down for a few weeks. I am beyond grateful that DH washed my hair at the kitchen sink during that time.
Growing up my sister's and I washed our hair in the laundry tub. The alternative was doing it in the bath, which worked as preteens with short hair. Once we started growing our hair long and wanted to use more products we moved to the laundry tub.

I used to bathe my kids in the kitchen sink! 😳
I wash my hair on the kitchen stick sometimes. It's just easier when I am short on time/energy or don't need a full shower. Can't kneel at the tub to do it and the bathroom sink is small & low.

I think I bathed infants in the sink on occasion.
When we were first married we didn’t have a bathroom and the toilet was outside, we used to wash in the sink because there was no where else. You do what you have to do.

I washed my own hair in the sink frequently as a teen. We got our hair water from a spring and at times heated it through tubes than ran thru our wood stove or hoses laid on the roof that warmed the water with the sun. There sometimes wasn’t enough hot water for us to all shower.

I spent most of my life before I was an adult washing my hair in the kitchen sink. We didn't always live in a place with a shower. Even when I was in college and living at home in the early 80s, my bathroom only had a tub. I hated kneeling on the floor and washing my hair under the tub faucet, so I washed my hair in the kitchen sink. I have not done that in many years. Not sure why it's controversial.

Totally normal years ago. I will wash mine in the bathroom sink on a very rare occasion, but no longer in the kitchen sink. It all cleans up. No biggie.

EVERYTHING is controversial these days. I could say, "water is wet," and it would somehow get blow back. It is the times in which we live.

When I grew up, our house did not have a shower. So, all the females in the house washed our hair in the kitchen sink. Now, DH colors my hair and I use the kitchen sink for washing the color out and applying the conditioner (let it set for 2 full minutes before rinsing).
The sink is washed out afterwards, there are no hairs lingering, so I don't understand the fuss.

I think after seeing some study on how much bacteria etc is in the kitchen sink, I don't like to use it for anything but cleaning. If the hair was short, I wouldn't really care. But I'd have to disinfect the heck out of the sink before wanting to wash mine or my daughter's long hair in there. When my daughter dyed her hair we used the mud room sink as it's the only stainless steel sink in the house. But on my ick scale this is a 2 maybe.

I have on occasion washed my hair in the bathroom sink. Never is the kitchen sink. While I know it can be washed before and after there is an illogical part of me that finds it icky.

I *still* wash my hair in the kitchen sink!! This usually happens if I have a bath before bed and don't feel like a shower in the morning. I work from home so I head to my office with a towel on my head 😃
I clean the sink at least once a day. Not dead yet.

I see no problem with washing hair in the kitchen sink. I do it when I need to restyle my curly hair and don't have time for a full shower. Works like a charm. I can't see how it could be a problem if one keeps their sink "Fly-Lady" clean.

I don't get the ick factor really but I am not to grossed out on stuff. (just depends)... but I clean my sink. So there might be bacteria, or whatever.. that is what keeps us alive.. we need germs to stay healthy. I don't think putting your hair in a sink is going to do anything. Now maybe if you were licking the sink.. that's gross. haha..
Who knows on the video I saw.. she might have said it for controversy in itself. lol

My child was bathed in the sink if there wasn’t time to allow him to play in the tub, when he fit in the kitchen sink.
More recently, one of the cats has been given a bath in the kitchen sink.
I’ll never understand the ick over things that can be cleaned and disinfected. Sinks are the ultimate of being able to be cleaned and disinfected.

I am all for people doing whatever they want.
For ME, that would gross me out haha. (Yes I used to wash babies in the sink - that’s different lol)

I grew up in a house with ten people, so heck yeah some of us washed our hair in the sink (usually the laundry tub though and not the kitchen, because the kitchen was typically occupied with someone cooking something).
I still wash my hair in the laundry room sink more often than not. I prefer taking a shower at night when I have more time but don’t want to go to bed with wet hair, but the next day my hair will look like hell if I don’t wash it. So the next morning, I’ll just wash my hair in the laundry sink. I can wash my short hair in under five minutes, dry it in about another five minutes if I have to go somewhere, so all in all it takes way less time to get ready in the morning doing things that way.
FTR, I’ve also washed my kid’s hair and my 5 lb dog in that sink on occasion and DH has done it too, so 🤷🏻♀️. I’m all for doing whatever works, and sanitizers exist for a reason. None of it bothers me a bit.

For the life of me I can’t imagine being icked by washing hair in a sink.
I mean, a clean sink, to use soap to wash hair? What’s gross about that?
Or, do yall not clean your sink lol?
Heck, I remember being told I was disgusting because I apply skincare and makeup with my (clean, washed) hands rather than add to bathroom trash/plastic.
I still haven’t figured out what’s gross about that lol

We didn't have a shower growing up, and there were 7 of us. There was no way everyone could bath and wash hair with that setup, so we washed hair in the kitchen sink or the utility room sink. Never thought a thing of it.
