on google as being inaccurate. For what it is worth.
Google Gulf of Mexico.
“Gulf of America" will be Google’s answer.
Click on the 3 dots to the right of “Gulf of America”.
Select "Send Feedback"
Click on "Gulf Of America" text. Select "Inaccurate content".
Select "Incorrect" and type:The correct name of this body of water is “Gulf of Mexico". 😻

I have been seeing daily posts from the Texas Reporter (I think that is it) where they post pics from "The Gulf of Mexico." I love it, but some people sure are triggered. I am sure those people never thought twice about the name before Trump brought it up.

While people are speaking up, if you heard about the Associated Press being banned from the Oval Office signings today for not calling the Gulf of Mexico by the fake name, you may want to consider telling the AP to hold the line, and don't comply. I haven't seen others recommend it, just the first thing I thought of. The pressure to comply is strong without getting feedback. I used the "Contact the Newsroom" form. www.ap.org/contact-us/contact-the-newsroom/

I deleted google maps from my phone, but now the apple maps app lists it as Gulf of america too. Any navigation apps that still call it Gulf of Mexico (that are any good)?

Apple, as well as many other navigational tools, uses the Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) for their data. Since the GNIS is part of the USGS, a governmental agency they are following the executive order, obviously. Apparently, the change went into effect on their system on Sunday. I am taking a wait and see approach to what these companies say, or if they will override that part of the data. Unlike Google, which publicly said they are hiding behind their "policy" regarding names.

I can’t find the place to report it on Google Maps this morning - I wonder if they removed the feature. I did give the name a one-star review and said that it’s the Gulf of Mexico.

This just doesn't bother me. This is North America so it's sort of all encompassing in my mind.
I know it was done for petty reasons by a total piece of shit but it just doesn't bother me. I'll never call it the Gulf of America but whatev. Now, if he had re-named it The Gulf of the United States, I'd have a huge issue with that.

DONE, Trying to believe every small action will sum to a significant one.
I'd bet money Trump thinks Mexico is South America.

Did that this morning while smiling! I have a snow day today so have called all my Congressmen and the Attorney General to complain about various t*ump related things. Won’t do much good in my MAGAt-led red state, but I feel better.

I don't really care.
It's a gulf between North American and South America in North America so Gulf of America makes sense to me but it's not a hill I'm willing to fight on.

I don't really care. It's a gulf between North American and South America so Gulf of America makes sense to me but it's not a hill I'm willing to fight on. It is an International body of water and its name is...The Gulf of Mexico. It isnt really an option for one country to decide it has a "new"name. And additionally, that decision is steeped in bigotry and does nothing to help inflation...

It really isn't a gulf between North America and South America. It's a gulf between two countries in North America -- the United States and Mexico. If you bothered to look at map you'd see that the Caribbean Sea is between South America and the Central American countries (which are technically a part of North America also) and the tips of Cuba and Mexico.

I mean, no, it’s among the least harmful things Trump has done, so it’s not a big deal. But he did it as an act of disrespect to one of our neighbors and biggest trading partners, just like when he talks about annexing Canada.
Reporting the error is a tiny and harmless act of resistance, not only against Trump but against the tech bros who have bent the knee.

It's not the least harmful think Trump has done. After yesterday's Associated Press stuff, it is clearly a compliance test. He will use it as a way to get groups who would normally resist to give in under the mistaken belief that it's not a big deal. Who is going to blow up funding over a name, right? And we've already seen it used as way to attack the First Amendment right to a Free Press.
Authoritarians need several things. One is loyalty. Two is compliance. Once an entity starts complying it gets harder to stop. Those who wouldn't stick their neck out for something "obviously dumb", that polls unfavorably by large margins (like 72-28%) aren't going to stick their neck out for something more contentious, because they know they will have fewer allies and more enemies. You think the GOP Senators who voted for Hegseth, Gabbard and will for RFK Jr thought they would go this far when the names were announced? Yet they complied. People need to reject the dumb stuff, just as strongly as the dangerous stuff so elected leaders, business leaders, your fellow citizens *know* which side you are on before we get to the dangerous stuff and likely to find yourself standing alone. We're not really that great at resisting, we need the practice.

It really bugs me how disrespectful he has been to our neighbors. I’ve had something happen enough times in the past week that makes me think it’s not just a coincidence. The hashtag #MinnesotaPeloton is displayed with my username when I am doing a Peloton ride. I have been getting high fives from Canadians. It happened twice this morning. This was not something that was happening prior to Trump’s tariffs & talking about them being our 51st state. It’s a little thing, but it made me feel good. I’m going to high five Canadians every time I see one on my screen.

It's up to us as individuals to keep up the friendship between our countries, since FF seems determined to destroy it.
