That's kind of what ends up happening but then she gets on my dad for 'nagging' her about that and it doesn't go over well. She's gotten to the point where she ignores the sounds on her pump and either he or I have to tell her that she's high/low. She takes it better from me and so I'm usually the one to alert her but at night, she relies on my dad. it's just kind of created this power struggle between them where she feels nagged and he feels afraid. Well, this sucks. I don't think it is unusual at all, but it is seriously another indicator your mom really needs the next level of care.

@ The Birdhouse Lady: We are on the letter Y. There were no restaurants beginning with a Y so we opted for McCarthys because it at least has a Y in it! The letter Z for next month is going to be equally as difficult.

naby64 - yes, raclette is a cheese dish. It is served differently in different places - restaurants often have a huge wheel of cheese and melt it under a heat lamp, then scrap it onto plates, but our home set up is simpler. Traditionally, it is boiled baby potatoes with shaved ham, covered with the melted cheese and served with fresh crusty bread. l This is our little home grill - ours is electric. There is a heating element under the hot plate. The little pans in front are for the cheese. We buy pre-sliced cheese cut to the right size, so really easy. You can grill veggies - we like mushrooms, bell pepper and zucchini - on the top and the pan goes underneath. I like it because everyone can eat as much or little as they like and at their own pace.

So almost a fondue type of thing but it seems the cheese has more body to it. Oh, if only my body liked for me to have cheese. Sadly, it is restricted these days.

scrapmaven and Linda, my current treatment is going fine. I have developed some skin cancers due to the chemo, but they get removed and we move on. Thanks for asking.

we are going to the natural foods store in a bit--every tuesday, they have a farmer guy bring by fresh and frozen stuff. sunny day and not too cold.\
hugs to all those who need them and stay warm people!!!

Something I have noticed and you should take my advice and that is if you have a gorgeous body and are practically wearing a thong you need sunscreen on your butt. There are some very red arses walking around that cannot be comfortable. These women are age 30 or so and gorgeous. Just a rare steak for a butt and that has got to hurt.

Alrighty, already a change of plan for dinner. Sort of. I ran home at lunch and there is NO ground beef in the freezer. 3 freezer packs of ground pork. Now what am I going to do with that? It came in a Butcher Box. I had thought of making homemade sausage but I have a full bag of sausage patties I got for DH just before he passed. So no need for that. Anywho, I found a couple of soupercube bricks of chili from November. I am really hoping these are from the oh so good batch I made. I left one out to thaw in the pot and will make a baked potato when home. And since there is a strong possibility of us staying home tomorrow, I may make a loaf pan batch of focaccia dough and bake that tomorrow.

scrapmaven- Please add your frilly socks and ruffled panties to the recital outfit. hehe! naby64 Do you have a Discount Tire nearby? they check tire pressures and add air whenever you need it. I have a super slow leak on one Subaru tire too. I had to replace all 4 a little over a year ago when I hit something in the road and bent a rim. I finished my grocery run- of course there is a remote possibility of some icing/snow so the Tortilla shelves were empty- Only in Texas!! I decided on a rotisserie chicken and some steamed veggies, I might add rice. My work day is winding down ( I sent my first e-mail at 5:10 this morning, so I've put in my time) I think I'll transition to sewing mode.

Have you talked to a discharge planner at the hospital? That person should be able to advise you and help facilitate home care for your mom. We've been working with her case manager at rehab and my sister was going to talk to her more when she picks my mom up. I'll touch base with her later and see what they've come up with. With my dad we had a caregiver come in everyday. My parents also saved their money. They only “traveled” to my house. So we were very fortunate to be able to pay when he didn’t have skilled needs against my brother’s protests. He had the life alert necklace but never used it. we used baby monitors after they left. 1 had a camera so we could see if he got out of bed in the middle of the night. My sister also had an echo show to “drop in” and communicate. That might be good to just give your mom reminders about her oxygen. And just say hi to your dad. They have to be willing of course. My dad didn’t object to anything. He wanted to stay in his house. He & my older sister made that agreement. He loved most of his caregivers. He let us know immediately when one came and sat on their phone the entire time. Good luck this is a difficult endeavor. Gave Dh the option of spaghetti & meatballs or veggie burritos. He chose spaghetti. We are emptying he fridge pre-trip. Happy 50th Birthday to Jeremy jeremysgirl I hope he enjoyed the cheesecake.

My next door neighbours are German and they served us raclette one night and they made it very clear we should borrow theirs at any time we want like seriously you need to borrow ours at any time!!! (I think they want to get more return on their investment.) I am only thinking I could do that for company sometime but what if we broke it? That wouldn’t be good. So we haven’t borrowed it.
We went to the steakhouse for dinner and the food was excellent. The food is so good here. There is this little snack bar that makes great croque monsieur and omg it was good.
Today was a day I couldn’t speak spanish. There was nothing wrong. I just couldn’t think in Spanish. It’s like forgetting all the math you learned and know you know it.
Have a good night. Muah!

The recitals are mainly kids, so I opt out. If other adults would perform I would totally do it, but they don't. I am starting a new piece today and it's gonna be fun to perform. Singing has felt so good I think you ought to put on your frilly dress and your patent leather shoes and give us a concert. On the good ship, Lollipop it's a sweet trip to a candy shop...hehe.

So almost a fondue type of thing but it seems the cheese has more body to it. Oh, if only my body liked for me to have cheese. Sadly, it is restricted these days. Similar to fondue, in that melted cheese in involved, and comes from the same part of the world. Fondue is usually a mixture of cheeses, grated and melted with other things - notably schnapps - added so it stays liquid and you can dip things in it. Raclette is a specific type of cheese, and it's sued from the block or in slices, melted and poured over things. raclette.. is a hunk of cheese that you melt one side, scrap off the melting cheese and eat with boiled potatoes and pickles? swiss dish. Sometimes. In restaurants or as street food/market food, that is how it's served. Potatoes are essential, ham almost so, other vegetables as wished. Pickles are on the side to cut the richness of the cheese. At home, most people don't have the space or equipment for the full block of cheese set up, so buy pre-sliced cheese and melt it in small portions. The pour over part is the same. I like it better as you keep getting freshly melted cheese this way. I am only thinking I could do that for company sometime but what if we broke it? Ours is a very basic raclette grill and I don' think it would be easy to break it. They are really fairly solid.

And this was the week I had talked myself into going to the shop and having it looked at. I'm an independent woman now after all. Sorry, is that too soon for some of y'all? Not at all! Gallows humor can be a nice change from our sadness, anger, fear, etc......allllll the emotions we have to suffer through in grieving. (( hugs )) My sister and I had a very fun moment of gallows humor after our Mom died, and it was a nice break from crying and feeling sad for sooooo many months. Same with my brother---my Dad and I said something at the same time, imitating my very funny brother---and we ended up laughing soooo hard, it was AWESOME!!! I'd been a wreck watching my precious brother dying in the ICU, I wasn't sleeping, I wouldn't leave his side, etc. I / we NEEDED that brief moment of laughing so hard, I almost *literally* "ROFL!"

Well then, you world feel very welcome in this house. We've used gallows humor since day 1. Our family is just wired differently. And DH had the most wonderful laugh. He would appreciate it.
