Challenging to choose just 1 worst moment. www.nytimes.com/2025/03/05/opinion/trump-congress-speech.htmlWorst Moment Appelbaum It was 90-plus minutes of bad moments — a typical Trump medley of fabrications, provocations and insults. But the worst part was the perversity of Trump performing a democratic ritual even as he breaks this nation’s laws and destroys its institutions.
Stockman When he walked into the Capitol, a place he incited his supporters to storm, cheered by many of the very people who were forced to flee. A very surreal moment.

www.nytimes.com/2025/03/04/opinion/trump-ukraine-putin-speech.htmlWhenever President Trump talks about Ukraine there is always something off, something missing, that makes you wonder what he is really up to — and his brief remarks on Ukraine to a joint session of Congress Tuesday night were no exception.
He crazily exaggerated how much the U.S. has contributed to Ukraine’s war effort as opposed to what our European allies have given. When he talked about the human toll of the war, he first mourned “Russian young people” and then “Ukrainian young people” — as if they were both hit by a meteor, the one before the other. And he declared that he has received “strong signals" from Vladimir Putin that he wants peace, but offered no details.
If there is one thing that I have learned in journalism it is that when you don’t call things by their real name, there is usually a reason — you are hiding something, some motivation, some intent.
How to explain that in Trump’s case? Well, he is either the most pliant Western negotiator against the enemies of liberty since Neville Chamberlain, making concessions to the aggressor before talks have even started, or he actually prefers the friendship of Putin over our European allies and courageous Ukrainian democrats.
When it comes to the defense of liberty, President Trump does not share the values of the best of his 44 predecessors. And if that is right, Ukrainians, in the end, will never buy what Trump is selling. Our European allies won’t, either.
Only Putin might, but, as Trump said in his speech, to make peace, “You have to talk to both sides.” He meant Putin, but Trump should actually start with our own allies. They are the ones who don’t understand him. Putin does.

Everything is always about him www.nytimes.com/2025/03/05/opinion/trump-joint-session-congress.html The thrust of Trump’s speech was, of course, to glorify himself, to claim sanctification bestowed on him by God when he escaped assassination. The main point was to brag that he is the best of the best. It is the same way he once boasted that the rolls in the restaurant at Trump Tower were “the best rolls in the city.”
The first month of his presidency, he said, was “the most successful in the history of the nation. And what makes it even more impressive is, do you know who No. 2 is? George Washington. How about that?”
Trump has remade the presidency, just as he has remade the Republican Party, in his own image. The first presidential address of his new term mirrored all his old rallies: It was an ode to himself.

www.nytimes.com/2025/03/05/opinion/trump-revenge-american-people.htmlAltogether, Trump has done more to actualize his desire for retribution than he has to fulfill his campaign promise to lower the price of groceries or reduce the cost of housing. A telling sign, perhaps, of his real priorities in office.
This fact of Trump’s indifference to most Americans — if not his outright hostility toward them, considering his assault on virtually every government function that helps ordinary people — suggests another dimension to his revenge tour. It is almost as if he wants to inflict pain not just on a specific set of individuals but on the entire nation.
It is hard to describe Trump’s first month and a half in office as something other than a retribution campaign against the American people. Well, if Trump wants anything, it is the untrammeled authority of the world’s autocrats. He wants to be a Putin or a Viktor Orban or a Kim Jong-un. He wants to rule with unchecked power. And if his psychology tells us anything, he will do everything he can to make that a reality, American democracy be damned.

I’ve owned chickens. We had to pay for their feed, bedding, a coop, barn heaters (multiple, because they kept crapping out), heated waterers, fencing to keep predators out, I can’t even remember it all. Those eggs were definitely not “free,” in fact they were some of the most expensive eggs we ever paid for, plus they were a smelly pain in the ass. No thanks. www.thekitchn.com/best-egg-substitutes-baking-23003895Not to mention that chickens in your yard can also get bird flu. But it doesn't sound like Cindosha believes bird flu is real in the first place. That should be the final nail in the coffin as far as anyone ever taking her seriously again. Clearly the woman is a complete and utter moron and anyone engaging her is just wasting their breath.

Yes. Several cats are known to have died. I imagine there are more but autopsies are not routinely done on pets. I posted about this before but just another FYI to pet parents freeze dried food is not safe from the bird flu obviously neither is raw. The only chicken food safe to give cats is canned or dry. Freeze dried food and treats are NOT safe.

About a couple of weeks ago someone posted a scholarly article or peer-reviewed article; it means a research paper written by experts in a field (like professors) that has been evaluated and critiqued by other experts in the same field before being published in an academic journal, ensuring its quality and accuracy. Her response was it's just an opinion. She does not even understand the basics.

Sorry to say but I thought I heard that canned food could be an issue.
Keep in mind free-range chicken/eggs may be your worst choice for now..

Not one person here has condemned the behavior of the left keeping their asses firmly planted in their chairs clutching their phones, waving their paddle boards while ignoring DJ Daniel.
I guess bringing up RFK, etc makes you all feel good about yourselves being proud of that. Two things can be true at once, but this shows how dead souls behave.

For refusing to let the right turn the narrative away from Trump’s lies and his destruction of this country. For refusing to contribute to the ghoulish spectacle of pretending to care about that young man while also being fine with him going without the medical care he needs. Yeah. That sounds about right. This is another example of weaponized empathy, BTW. Referencing the Elon thread. These posters have some great examples for us!

Go ahead and spin, defend, and deflect from the dark behavior the left showed that boy battling brain cancer. It’s an ugly look. I haven’t seen you show any empathy for people who were in cancer and other research studies and their treatment was cut off due to Trump. Or any of the thousands of other despicable things he has said and done over the years. Spare me the outrage. FWIW, I didn’t watch the SOTDU, just clips and have seen comments like yours. I don’t know the full context of the situation and what was said and if there was more to why they didn’t stand. But from what I hear, it is for reasons that merge stated. They were being used to show a different picture than what is actually happening. I do have mixed feelings about the democrats not standing depending what the reason was, but don’t have more info from them on their reasoning. And Frankly it isn’t the biggest issue we have going on right now. It’s a distraction from the right.

By all means, ignore the bigger picture that Trump is in Putin's pocket and spouting Russian propaganda from the Oval Office and the Capitol. Ignore the fact that Trump has abandoned Ukraine and democracy. Ignore the fact that our country is speeding towards an oligarchy/ autocracy/ dictatorship/ fascism. Ignore that fact that Musk and Trump are shredding the constitution and demolishing the government. Ignore the fact that Trump and Musk have withdrawn congressionally approved funding for cancer research. Ignore the big picture, neglect the context and deflect from the horrors of Trump's speech.

I find it to be sick the way they use people as nothing more than political props or pawns, like the grieving families of people who were randomly killed, that kid with cancer, even the kid who was accepted to military college when every one of their policies is in diametric opposition to bettering any of those people’s lives.

This. To be clear, Trump is mad that Democrats didn't clap for *him.* He said as much. He doesn't give two shits about any of the people he exploited there for applause.

Al Green is my representative here in TX-09 in southwest Houston. I haven't watched the full state of the Union address for my own sanity, but from the clips I've seen Al Green was possibly the only sane adult in the room. So of course he got removed by the kangaroo court.

Maybe, but I find shutting down funding to the NIH which is involved in research on children's cancer even more ugly. And the hypocrisy is appalling. A party with a blatant racist agenda patting itself on the back, while we all know you don't give two shits about little black boys with brain cancer. So performative it makes me sick.

Freeze dried food and treats are NOT safe. This is true. The chicken used in pet food is processed in a different plant from the chicken that is sold as human food according to an article I read yesterday and doesn’t have as strict safety regulations. We’ve been feeding our cats a raw food diet for over 15 years that we make using raw ground chicken meat that I buy from Whole Foods-I get the organic version. I have considered switching to rabbit meat but it’s 3 times the cost so for now we are going to stay the course.

That sentence is exactly what is wrong with your party. “Sane” doesn’t get someone censured in congress. But you just keep thinking that the left is winning.
