This is a rather lovely house in the North East of Scotland and at a reasonable price too! I'm not a fan of four poster beds or Jacobean style dining furniture but that's about all I don't like.

I would feel like I was inside a whale, I hate those beams. The ceilings look far too low for those beds. I can't be that cold for the rest of my life so if I have to leave the US, I'm sneaking across the Mexican border to work as a nanny teaching English to my boss's kids. They'll like that I'm also a nurse I suppose, it'll probably give me a leg up on the other paid-under-the-table illegal help.

I saw that house last night! Amazing to think it’s nearly 350 years old. I’m not a fan of the beams particularly, but it only seems to be the kitchen/breakfast room that has them. I love the fireplaces. And Keith is by the Moray Firth, which is a gorgeous part of the country.

The sun is shining in the photos, it must be at least 60deg., positively tropical!

It is lovely, but I don't think I could stand the cold. Got anything in the south of Spain?

But the price sure did!

Is it normal to keep firewood inside the house?
Also, no to the beams, the amount of patching that the walls would need with all that stuff on them, and the cold. But mostly the price

But mostly the price The people I know with real fires keep their main stash of logs outside bringing in a smaller amount to keep inside, every few days. Are you guys thinking this is expensive?

Frantically checking to see how much I can get for 3 adult children.....LOL
That is LOVELY. I agree - the furniture can all go. But the house itself can stay!

Well if it was in Canadian dollars, absolutely not. But considering our dollar is worth less than the pound, it works out to approximately $1.59 million. Still a great price but out of my bracket for sure....

If that was further south in England it would be a few million I expect!

I'm surprised some of you think it's expensive. A similar house in England would be at least twice this price, and easily 4 times depending on the location. I just had a quick look and at today's exchange rate it's about $1,090,000.

What would a 7 bed, 5 bath, 8 acres and outbuildings cost where you are then? I'm curious and asking, not having a go. The original buildings date from 1678 too.

I love it all! But, I can't help but think are mice a problem in a big, old house? That would never have occurred to me! It's in the country, there are bound to be mice somewhere but you deal with them. I have cats and a dog but occasionally a mouse chances its' paw and we catch them and release them a long way away. I would have thought there were plenty of predators that would keep the mouse population down.

I think the price is quite reasonable, but I think redoing the rest of the buildings and the upkeep on something that old might be more than I would want to sign on for. If they want someone to come live there for a few months and do odd jobs, sign me up! I can handle the cold for a bit.

For long before now DH has talked about wanting to live in the north of Scotland someday. And I do love an old house, but that's a bit more house than I think we really need.

can I be the gardener, and take care of the gorgeous flowerbeds?? I'm swooning over that border with the lupines and hostas...
lol at the 'living inside a whale' comment about the beams- that is what it looks like, especially in the one room. I could get used to it, I think, for everything else.
ETA: I think it's a steal, too- that price, for that house + almost 9 acres of property. I mean, regular 'McMansions' here on teeny lots can go for well over $1 million, so less than that price for this property is pretty reasonable, in my opinion.
