+1 vote for I would like to see an example of this "weaponized empathy". I've a strong suspicion it's coming from the same folks who seem to think extending human rights to all people somehow diminishes their own.

Did the democrats display any empathy for JD Daniel or the families of Laken Riley or Jocelyn Nungaray? No they did not and I can only imagine how that made them feel. You need to look at your own side of the aisle before condemning the other. Weaponized empathy, exhibit A. Using a minuscule criminal sample size to demonize everyone who looks and/or speaks like the criminal, for the purpose of denying those people's humanity.
Thanks so much for the great example. I wonder why you have more empathy for these victims than for the thousands of Americans killed by fellow Americans with guns each year.

Yeah, pretty bold of a Trumpster to try and school anyone on empathy after the vengeful destruction of American democracy we’ve all witnessed the last couple of months.

You need to look at your own side of the aisle before condemning the other. What an odd accusation. Of course Democrats displayed empathy for their family’s losses. Only monsters would find joy in someone else’s pain. Which is what this thread is about — calling empathy a weakness.

The word sociopath comes to mind when I think of Musk.

that post is very enlightening- thanks for sharing! If Musk is a 'pretender' and not really smart, then he's just like Dump. He was a USEFUL pretender, for Dump, because of his $$$, and his $$$ is a way for people to *think* he's smart. I believe a lot of people equate rich with smart- "someone MUST be smart, to make all that money!" But it's not always the case.

People confuse generational wealth, white/male privilege, and a willingness to exploit people and systems for your own gain with actual intelligence and business acumen.

You need to look at your own side of the aisle before condemning the other. I was wondering how long before we’d hear Laken Riley. Where’s the right’s empathy for George Floyd, those killed by Kyle Rittenhouse, those affected by the DOGE cuts, Ukraine, the police officers injured on Jan 6 who had to watch their president pardon their attackers? I could go on and on and on and on, but you guys have been conditioned to trot out Laken Riley like some kind of gotcha reveal.

Some fundie wrote a book called Toxic Empathy. She’s a horrible person and that’s just another justification IMO for being horrible to people you don’t like i.e. transgender folks, POC, BLM, etc.. The synopsis “A sharp Christian voice makes a bold argument: when politics are driven by empathy rather than truth, innocent people pay the price.” Gross.
Allie Beth Stuckey - the same woman who said that "the least of these" in the Bible meant persecuted Christians and not the poor.

Great statement from Philip Low. Low is actually what Elon pretends to be - a scientist and technical genius. Note what he says about lack of empathy. Remember, there are no ethical billionaires. Anyone with a shred of empathy or ethics does not accumulate billions of dollars before finding humanitarian things to do with it.
