What musicians did after an executive order on DEI led to the cancellation of U.S. Marine Band collaboration. Link to story. This hurts my heart so much. This kids, all kids, deserve better. I have already sent emails to my Congressmen, asking them to help me make sense of it.

That is horrible that the concert was cancelled because the band members were not white. Ugh. There really is no low.

Thanks for posting this. I watched (and listened) with tears in my eyes. 100% agree that these kids and all kids deserve better. America deserves better than this.

My heart hurt when I saw that story!

I was glad they highlighted that story.. along with all the former military musicians who came out to support them!! I wonder if they had a regular concert too..

This is the first thing that monster has done that literally brought me to tears. Music education is the pinnacle of what we can be and do to bridge racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic divides. Programs to bring in underrepresented groups are essential to this effort. I literally spent my entire career in service to the idea that all kids should have the opportunity to make music.
So this feels very personal. A kick in the face. Fuck the people who voted for this monster. I hope every one of you gets what you deserve.

While that story was one of the most disturbing from last night’s show, IMO, it is the one that had the most optimistic ending. I am so happy that their performance was now seen by millions instead of hundreds. A nd that the performance, bravery (yes bravery), and morals to step up and do what is right of those retired veterans should be accoladed and so respected.

Wow! I live very close to Strathmore. I had no idea. My kids have played there in orchestras and bands for years. It is a beautiful place and I am so glad they did this. Fuck you Trump, rot in hell

I saw that story too and as the mom of a female band kid, it hurt my heart. I hope karma bites back hard on this administration. 🤬

This is the first thing that monster has done that literally brought me to tears. This is so true with any of the arts, whether music, art, theater etc. He is ruining all that is good with our country.

As a musician this pisses me off more than I can even express.

If he has his way, “the arts” will be nothing but white men playing John Phillip Sousa. And maybe the Mormon Tabernacle Choir for variety.

All of this, but especially the bolded part. I LOVE that they stated that fact amidst all the negativity in the story and the lived experience of these young musicians. The good that came out of this (all the people and musicians who helped out) is so important. We all need to do the little things that the people who supported these kids did. Every little bit can impact another person in a big way!

That he took over The Kennedy Center and appointed himself as board chair (ugh, spit, hiss, vomit) almost immediately after being sworn in says a whole lot about this presidency.

I’ve been sharing this with different people today. I’m so proud of these kids, and so enraged at the administration (and its supporters) that prevented them from performing the way they were supposed to.

Reminder that while the story of those who came together to give these kids their opportunity seems heartwarming, it's a bit like stories about people clearing school lunch debt - it's terrible that there is even a need.

Don't forget the Village People so he can dance on stage and look like a complete idiot. Although, the Village People might be a little to diverse for him at this point. Not arts related, but I read this morning that Jackie Robinson's Army history page on the DoD website has been scrubbed. A vet and a sports hero, gone because he's a man of color. JFC, where are we, Bizzaro World?
