I'm so excited, I just found out today my application was accepted to rent a cute little house. I decided to not buy anything just yet. Last week, I was so stressed out thinking about it all. The chunk of money I would need to put down, getting my name off the current mortgage, etc. I didn't want to make a rash decision since I'm so anxious to get out of my friend's basement. I decided to rent for at least a year thinking that it will be nice to actually not have money worries for a while. I've been so stressed about money every single day for years, and I am looking forward to feeling nothing but peace. I have bought some new furniture that I love and will repurpose some things I own now. I can move in April 1st! I have so much packing and decluttering to do, but I'm excited to know now where I'm going to land. Oh, the best part is that it's less than 2 miles from my daughter and her husband and my new grandson! Here is a sneak peak! I don't have a photo, but it does have a patio in the back yard. I have so many ideas for ways to cozy it up. It has brand new LVP flooring that is so pretty throughout the whole house. 3 bedrooms, a basement (not finished) so I will have room for storage, a home office and a guest room. The master bedroom is quite large. The kitchen is outdated, but I'm okay with that. I love to cook and there is plenty of storage and a nice sized pantry.

Well that looks like the perfect house for one person, I can't wait to see it once you've settled in and are comfortably living there! Bonus point that you can walk to your daughter's family home. I think you're right to wait to buy, not just to give yourself some time, but also to give time to see where the economy goes. I believe that you may well save a bunch of $$$ by waiting a while.

congrats! I had to live in same home as my ex for almost 2 years. this current rental has been a piece of heaven and peace for me - my ex has never stepped foot in it. I got to pick furniture I wanted, stuff on walls I chose....ya, I have to shovel my own snow and put out my garbage bins and it is the *smallest* price to pay. totally worth it.
Enjoy and all the best in your new place. it will be just the re-set you need!!

I'm so happy you have a place to call your own! You're being very smart about catching your breath and renting until you feel financially ready for that. How nice that you are near family. That makes a huge difference!

This is a fantastic update! I agree that a short term plan, waiting for the dust to settle both with ex fulfilling his obligations, and *waves hands* everything else is a smart strategy.

I love it and so happy you found a place. I think it’s a good idea to wait a year and just see what you feel like at that time. Enjoy decorating your place and spending time with your grand baby. I hope you will share more pictures if you feel comfortable doing so.

So happy for you! That house will make you smile every time you come back home to it. I've looked at quite a few places the last week, and I felt good just driving to this one. It's on a road that at one point is very busy, but this stretch is almost like driving out into the country. The neighborhood is small and quiet. It just felt really good when I walked in. I knew it was where I wanted to be. I was trying to not get my hopes up, but I am so glad it worked out. I'll just say it is not easy to find the right place. There is a condo I almost got that had the most beautiful kitchen. It was big and bright and updated and so pretty. But the rest of it was sorta dark because it was in the middle of two other condos. And the outdoor space was so close to everyone else's patios that it wouldn't feel relaxing to me. And I love my outdoor space. LOL I'm going to have a hard time leaving my house because I love the front porch. A few other places were just downright dingy and almost dirty, and I couldn't see myself there. I'm so relieved. I finally feel like I can breathe and relax.

Congratulations to you! I hope your new house feels like a home in no time, and that it gives you a great launching pad for whatever's next. Usually I'm a huge fan of decluttering, especially before/during moving ... but I have to say it filled me with a huge sense of satisfaction to think about you only taking the things you love and need and leaving any and all clutter and junk for your xdh to deal with Hell, I'd probably go out looking for random crap to leave for him to have to clean up ... like all the 'leftovers' of any garage sale I happened across in the next few weeks

I love it. congratulations! I personally think this is a wise decision. After such a stressful period you can now focus on joy, peace and contentment. No need to have to think about repairs, upkeep, etc. Enjoy your process of moving forward and best wishes with everything.
