The DoD has been removing mentions and highlights of black and native Americans from websites. They can no longer pretend they are not trying to change history and downplay the contribution of minorities in this country. I wonder how many stories of white veterans were removed for review?? I bet you none. Arlington National Cemetery has begun wiping from its website histories highlighting Black, Hispanic and women veterans. The change is in line with President Trump's directive to remove references to and support for diversity, equity and inclusion from the federal government. For example, Gen. Colin Powell was the first Black chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion was the first corps comprised only of Black women to work overseas during World War II. Their stories are no longer prominent on the website, but can still be found using the search function.www.npr.org/2025/03/14/g-s1-54054/arlington-national-cemetery-dei-websiteThe Department of Defense and U.S. Army scrubbed articles on the Navajo Code Talkers and their contribution to America's victories during World War II, removing the information from websites as part of President Donald Trump's campaign against diversity, equity and inclusion. Defense officials told him the material was taken down as part of an automated review of content. www.azcentral.com/story/news/local/arizona/2025/03/18/dod-army-remove-navajo-code-talkers-materials-cite-trump-dei-riles/82502288007/

I guess the Tuskegee Airmen will disappear too. And the highly decorated WWII 442nd regiment made up of Americans of Japanese descent. Although, I haven't seen this administration target Asians ... yet. I am sure it is coming.

They already removed references to the Navajo Code talkers from WWII, the regiment that was the focus of the Civil War movie Glory, and the Native American (Pima) who was one of the flag raisers at Iwo Jima.
It’s not about any meritocracy; it’s about resegregation.

It really is disgusting what lengths they will go to to erase marginalized people. The only thing that brings me comfort is knowing that one day Trump supporters will receive the same treatment that the Nazi party received.

This is what I would like to hear the trumpers/Republicans try to explain away. I don't think they have one other than do you believe everything you read? (Despite lots of evidence from multiple sources and across multiple branches of government) Or, in the case of NASA, since they didn't remove all mention of women, it's OK that they removed the mention of women in leadership roles.

HCR covered this in her newsletter last night heathercoxrichardson.substack.com/p/march-17-2025Today, Erin Alberty of Axios reported that at least ten articles about the Code Talkers have disappeared from U.S. military websites. Broken URLs are now labeled “DEI,” an abbreviation for “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.”
Axios found that web pages associated with the Department of Defense have also put DEI labels on now-missing pages that honored prominent Black veterans. Similarly missing is information about women who served in the military, including the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASPs) of World War II. A profile of Army Major General Charles Rogers, who received the Medal of Honor for his service in Vietnam, was similarly changed, but the Defense Department replaced the missing page and removed “dei” from the URL today after a public outcry.
Two days ago, media outlets noted that the Arlington National Cemetery website had deleted content about Black, female, and Hispanic veterans.
The erasure of Indigenous, Black, Hispanic, and female veterans from our military history is an attempt to elevate white men as the sole actors in our history. It is also an attempt to erase a vision of a nation in which Americans of all backgrounds come together to work—and fight—for the common good.

This is telling. I cannot think of a valid reason for it, but there is an obvious reason.

They have an excuse or justification for everything else, but I’m having a hard time thinking of one for this. That’s why THIS is the thing I do want to hear from them about. It would be a good time for them to call out racism, but I’m sure they won’t.

But we were assured here that this wasn’t happening. Oh, I'm sure they're just joking with all this... Those MAGAts, they're such kidders!! /s edit to add: those (now gone) pages of information are NOT "DEI" they are HISTORY. HISTORY. They are erasing HISTORY.

Some of the websites have been reinstated. Some, but many remain removed: Some pages about figures like Jackie Robinson, the Tuskegee Airmen, the Navajo Code Talkers and Desert Storm-era Gen. Colin Powell have been restored following public outrage. But many remain down and have not been restored.
I guess the Tuskegee Airmen will disappear too. And the highly decorated WWII 442nd regiment made up of Americans of Japanese descent. Although, I haven't seen this administration target Asians ... yet. I am sure it is coming. Apparently they did take down the page about the 442nd, but it was restored: The Army website had deleted and then reinstated this week the page for the 442nd Regimental Combat Team. More than a third of the soldiers were born to Japanese immigrants, and despite dealing with racism in the U.S., the 442nd became the most decorated unit in American military history for its size. The group, which had to be replenished several times, totaled about 14,000 soldiers, of which 9,486 received Purple Hearts, 21 Medals of Honor and eight Presidential Unit Citations.
But the story of Doris Miller has not been reinstated: Miller, a cook on a ship, gunned down attacking Japanese planes at Pearl Harbor in 1941, before he led other sailors to safety. The effort made him the first Black sailor to receive the Navy Cross, and his image was used on recruitment posters.www.yahoo.com/news/historic-figures-cut-military-websites-130000339.html
