I don't even know what to call this post...
A few months ago, I got on a must own more brads kick. Have I used any of them, no.
Recently, I got the urge to buy buttons, by the time I got to J's they were out of stock because of the liquidation. My small button jar remains half filled with mostly pink, white, and brown buttons but I'm still looking...
Do you ever just get it in your head you need some random item or is it just me?
I mean it's good to have a stash, just in case, right?

Not so much as an urge to get supplies but the I've got the bug to reorganize my entire space and downsize my stuff. In the past I've gotten the urge about needing a certain collection of paper (*cough, cough* Basic Grey) that I just need to find it no matter the cost!

I have also done this. Also with collection/kit that I don't have or had and used, and feel like I still need it. And then, it sits. smh

I used to get bad scrappy urges. Not so much anymore --- I add all the things to my online cart and then walk away without buying it. Usually by the time I go back to my cart, the urges are gone.

Me too. I'm good at talking myself out of things when I look at final cost after tax and shipping. I do cave occasionally, but more often than not I'm over it by the next day.

... Do you ever just get it in your head you need some random item … ? ... No; I don’t have “Full Set Syndrome,” so I don’t tend to fixate on/collect a certain item. Rather, I add individual products to my wish list/online cart (usually from reveals/new releases), which may either go out of favor or stock before I accumulate enough supplies to purchase (only 1-2 times a year). ETA: ... I mean it's good to have a stash, just in case, right? IMHO you can never have enough paper.

This reminds me of when I just had to have ALL of Jen Hadfield’s Patio Party collection. I tracked down a lot of it in different Tuesday Mornings. We don’t even spend a lot of time on our patio.

For me, I wouldn't call it an urge....it's more like a desire to have.
Specifically, ebay...in search of older discontinued product. Some of which I have or had "one" only, or didn't have at all... and wish I would had bought it back then, or had bought more of specific items. Especially patterned paper and alphabet stickers or alphabet chipboard. Back then(during scrapbookings prime), I didn't think about buying multiple of the same item.....like I do these days.
I regularly search and scroll, because one never knows when someone else is going to clean out the product stash or give up on scrapbooking entirely.....and sell their products, some of which is coveted and wanted older merchandise.
I am of the belief, that there is no such thing as "too much" scrapbook product in my stash. As long as I love it or like it...it remains in my stash. The only scrapbook product I donate, is products that I now look at and think >> what the hell...why did I buy that???

While it’s usually just tools that are hard for me to say no to, every once in a while, I will definitely fixate a little on a particular small-ish type of item. When that happens, I either feel the need to get all of that item (like a set of a company’s mini inks) or all of the attractive-to-me versions of the item (like not buying all of Tim Holtz’s alcohol inks, but instead getting the storage tin and limiting myself to that space & choosing the best colors for my taste).
These don’t happen very often, but when they do, I’ll admit I get a little too invested in getting them all at once, especially when I’ve already figured out a specific drawer, container, etc for them. I have a thing for nicely filled/arranged storage.

I do it. It's my acquisitiveness. I don't have the "Full Set" issue that people talk about, not for everything or even most things. If it makes sense to me, sure, but I really try to think it through. That's why for a very long time I avoided collections--I just know I won't care for everything. I have picked up quite a few in the last 5-10 years, but I'm still choosy about them, and I'm pretty picky about things like paper pads (the 12x12 size anyway). I like to pick and choose things. Like a crow. I still do. I do sometimes get focused on things--and then I acquire them.
You know what, though? For the most part, when I go back through my stuff and check out past buying decisions--no regrets at all. It's been particularly interesting looking at my stuff through the lens of time, inflation (Thickers? Holy crap), and lack of availability. As I wind down my work life toward retirement, there are definitely some things I want to have in place, so I have been acquiring them here and there. It's helpful to have longevity in this hobby because I have a good idea what will last/still be good and what I have not grown tired of.

I just got 30 of the Michaels Simply Tidy mesh bags delivered today. I love to keep my favorite lines with lots of embellishments in them. I already filled the 45 I bought in January.
I have a second hand craft store that I visit every week. Love to find dies there.

I have some amount of full-set syndrome. As @retrofunscapper notes, its seems more harmless with leetle things; I have succumbed to two lines of mini-inks.
But I also get the weird acquisitive obsessions that aren't FSS -- too many Altenew enamel dots and spools of SU ribbon. I know when each obsession was active, what inspired it, etc. I don't use either now as much as I used to (when the obsession was "fresh"), but mostly I don't regret them. Some of the ribbons I've purchased turned out to be difficult to work with in various ways, so I've donated them, but that's not the same as looking at them and wondering what I was thinking. It was learning properties of the particular instance of an item that couldn't really be known ahead of purchase.
My latest obsession was the Scor-Buddy. SB.C had it on sale during SBC Fest for a measly 10% off. While I could see a use for it when crafting away from home, I didn't need it. But it was haunting me for days. I was truly obsessed, looking for cheaper options, completely unable to let it go. It's on its way to me from OfficeSupply.com for a couple bucks less than the SB.C sale price and a free shipping with $25 coupon; added an adhesive roller refill to get to that spend.
