From the Fox News discussion panel about today's Dept of Education cuts. That comment is courtesy of Greg Gutfeld. Now, how widely held do you think his public acknowledgement is?
"Jessica: When I hear Republicans out there talking about their plan for education in America, I don't hear them talking about making sure disabled kids have access to a public education.
Greg: Because we're against it."

I can’t imagine anyone with a shred of human decency thinking that his comment is acceptable. However, we all know that in this administration, human decency is not something to aspire to. I would like to think that this sentiment is not widely held, but I’m sure it is in MAGA circles.
I hate those f*ckers with every fiber of my being.

Good lord. They just can’t seem to resist saying the quiet parts out loud anymore. That’s just awful.

Wait… I know nothing about this guy… but he was being sarcastic in that video. But why would anyone even say something abhorrent like that? Because he uses it as rage bait. My DH would watch the shows with him. Do I think he's a sorry excuse for a human? Definitely. Do I know he uses sarcasm to the max? Yep. I can see him answering this with a (rolling eyes, windy neck) air quotes "because we hate them" as we would say it about them. This is his schtick. I loathe it. And him.

Particularly when such important issues are at stake. How is this funny?

Adding to my own post here - the fact that he was likely “joking” doesn’t take away from the fact that Rs are doing everything they can to defund and destroy the only schools required to educate kids with special needs. The likelihood of high quality private schools jumping in to fill the need through vouchers is nil.

Guttfeld is a clown. He loves the sound of his own voice and thinks he's hilarious. Apparently, MAGA people do too. The show, The Five, is all that's wrong with America, a bunch of smug, self-satisfied MAGA @$$holes pontificating. Adding to my own post here - the fact that he was likely “joking” doesn’t take away from the fact that Rs are doing everything they can to defund and destroy the only schools required to educate kids with special needs. The likelihood of high quality private schools jumping in to fill the need through vouchers is nil. The operative term being "high quality". Plenty of people will have their hands out so con artists will get rich and schools won't be any better off. I'm appalled at how privileged people in government who have never set foot in a public school except to vote think they know how to educate kids.

Wow. Few things make my jaw drop any more, but that’s one of them. 😡
ETA: After reading the comments, it seems that he was joking. As someone who spent a great deal of her career working with said kids, he’s not funny (as others have said). I wrote to my Congressman-a Republican- expressing this very concern. I would bet that some states are going to neglect these kids. And Ohio, my state, might well be one of them. It makes my blood boil.

Plenty of people will have their hands out so con artists will get rich and schools won't be any better off. I'm appalled at how privileged people in government who have never set foot in a public school except to vote think they know how to educate kids. Oh exactly. And a big part of the push for vouchers is so that unscrupulous people can open up subprime schools to profit off of voucher money. This already happens with some "Christian academies" and charter schools, and when the public schools are completely gone, it will only get worse.
What Gutfield says is true - Rs are against educating the poor and the disabled. But the caveat is that they're against it *unless* someone can profit off of it.
Texas is wrangling over a voucher scam again this legislative session, and a big part of the opposition even among some Republicans is that there is no academic accountability built in for schools that accept vouchers. That's by design, of course - if your school is crappy and producing poor results it isn't going to profit very long. But the few principled Rs left in the lege are correct in that it's unfair to hold taxpayer funded public schools to a standard that taxpayer funded private schools aren't required to meet.
So another group is trying to do away with the state standardized test by which we measure accountability. The test is crap, of course, and shouldn't be used as the sole determiner of school quality for any school. But the motivation behind it is entirely cynical. Can't profit if your private school shows F scores year after year.

Particularly when such important issues are at stake. How is this funny? Please understand I am on your side. As I've said before, I've found few good things came from my DH's passing. Not having Fox on any of my TV is one of them. But having watched enough of the shows, you will never get a good discussion from any of the "shows". Jessica Tarlov is the one shining light there. She punches back hard with facts. And when she does, they have nothing. So they come back with a one liner like Gutfield gives on his show. She's against Judge Janine and Jesse Waters 😵💫 And those two certainly never have anything of substance to say. There is another guy who is right leaning but every now and then he would have a push back. Lawd, does this mean I watched too much or absorbed through osmosis while I slept? But if you're looking for a discussion, not this channel. Their aim is to keep the orange masses riled up.

this make me so mad I can't talk about it. having dealt with the education system for years.. which needed more resources and more training for staff... I have a child with autism.. I had to file cases against the school district three times.. and my child went for years without services, without support.. and I had money and education to fight!!! so many families don't. I finally sent her to a private appropriate school on their dime.
generally the usa does not care about disabled people or poor people or people with mental illness. we will not spend the resources to provide a decent life for them.
and why americans are miserable.

He's gross. And the sad thing is he's so gross that we get so caught up in reacting to him that we don't have the complex, difficult conversations that we need to have as a society about these issues. The needs of children with disabilities are vast & varied. There are so many factors to consider. I have spina bifida. But what spina bifida looks like for me is not necessarily what it will look like for another person with the same diagnosis. Same is true for autism, cerebral palsy, Downs Syndrome, etc. etc.

If they don't flat out actually endorse their talking points, they're at best neutral towards them and callous enough they don't care who gets hurt, or even enjoy the chaos. In short, trolls.
