Fluffety fluff : If you won $1m say, not one of the big jackpots, what would you buy for yourself? Just for you, none of the money can go to family or charity, this is money must be spent on yourself. I don't wear jewellery much but I quite fancy a 3 stone diamond ring or I'd like to build a swimming pool in the back garden. It would have to be a building with a pool in it as it's too cold to swim outdoors. There would be marble and lighting and heating and plants . . or I'd like to spend time by myself on a desert island but there would need to be nice food that would arrive by discreet waiters who would only ever be seen at meal times.

Love the desert island idea! Funnily enough I would buy an antique trilogy ring I have several saved on Insta and just drool over them occasionally. I would retain a masseur, a PT and a movement coach to keep me in trim, mobile and healthy. I would have a couple of subtle tweakments. And I would buy a holiday place in Portugal. Do I have enough for all that??

If I ignore practical things like medical bills I think that we’d buy a one story story home (currently in a two-story which is difficult with my pain issues and DH’s leg/knee issues), and the rest would be spent on vacations planned around a ton of sporting and theater events. It’d be awesome traveling for a year to watch all of the games and shows we’d like! Funny enough, even well financed, it’d mostly be a road trip because we enjoy them so much.

I might not buy anything with a million, but rather save it for retirement.
Anything else I would want to do would have conditions- we might want to move out of state, but could only do that if my mom has passed away and would only if ds also moved.

My first reaction is save it. If I 'had' to spend it, it would be on a housekeeper.

I would add a back deck onto my house. Screened in so I don't have to deal with bugs. I'd also do a little fix up on my house; new bathroom remodel and new kitchen stuff.
I'd like some professional landscaping done in places also.
A pool would be awesome, but I know what goes along with that, as far as maintenance and there isn't anyone around here that does that professionally.

I'd go to Waterstones first and go nuts! I'm not sure what else I'd buy tbh.

I’d like to buy a little place in Calistoga, but doubtful I could find one for a million, so otherwise I’ll go with the travel the world option.
Would definitely want to do a walking safari.
I would also do a fabulous trip with my girlfriends (though White Lotus shows that might not be a good idea haha)

Definitely a pool--zero entry, please. Our property had an inground pool once already, so a perfectly flat area of the right size already exists, so I just need the funding. But our house has about 50 projects that need to be done before I can spend money on a pool, so I'd spend a chunk of my million dollar winnings on getting all of those done as well.

I would buy a small SUV and then I'd gather my Disney loving friends and do VIP tours of all of the parks.

I would build a dream backyard with a pool with an enclosure that I could open in the summer and close to use in the winter. Add in a swim spa and a gazebo with big comfy seating. Plant beautiful trees and flowers all around. And hire a gardener to maintain the property.

I love having a pool, but I don't love the annual opening and closing of it. (Our spot for a pool isn't close to the house I don't think I'd personally want to enclose it to use it all year. The snowy/icy hike over to it would keep me from using it enough. )

166 months worth of ds medical formula. That would give ME about 13.5 years of mental load relief, way less stress, and 13.5 years of not having to deal with insurance and state DMHC.
So while it is technically for ds, it would benefit me as well.

I have a 1/3 acre property so the walk from the house to the pool house would need to be a cozy sheltered walk. One of the coolest things I have ever done is go to the Rocky Mountains in winter and go in the hot springs in the winter. Sit there and enjoy the hot pool with the snow gently falling down. Banff Upper Hot Springs you can enter the pool from the change room, you go down some steps into the water. Fairmont Hot Springs you have to walk outside on the cold concrete to get to the hot pool. Maybe we could build a mini Nordic Spa like this for a million dollars.

If I won, I wouldn't tell anyone.
With one million, it would be less after taxes. I would give myself $100,000.00 as "spending money". From the "spending money", I would get a new car. The rest of the "spending money" would be used for either travel or home decor (I would love to have a big double sized chair and ottoman or a love seat).
I am very practical, so the majority of the funds would go into to savings.....so I could supplement my current income and splurge once in awhile.

Assuming I'm paying taxes that's about 600k? And, I have to spend it?
I think I would use that money to pay for some extreme travel. I recently went on a bucket list trip, and it was about 60k (for two people) for just over 3 weeks of travel. I think with that budget, I could afford that degree of travel several times a year for the next ten years and see places and things and people and experiences that are disappearing before our eyes.
I could do it while I'm relatively young and healthy and can spend the money on experiences rather than expensive conveniences/help etc that becomes necessary when you wait until you are older/retired etc
I have a friend who has taken each of her grandkids on a trip to do 3 things (100% their choice) during the years of their 10th, 16th and 21st years. It has ranged from the Great Barrier Reef and visiting a volcano and a luau, to Disney, Epcot and alligators depending on the kid. I think that's the coolest thing- ever! My first grandchild will be born this year, and I would love to be able to start a similar tradition. With that kind of money put aside for travel, I could. I could also expand a version of it to my niece and nephew.
