Due to fibroids my 39 yo daughter is scheduled for a robotic hysterectomy in early May. They explained that she will have three small incisions and that the 'inards' (her word) will come out through the vagina. Anyone experiences this type of surgery and can you give me any suggestions to help with her care post Surgery.
I had a complete hysterectomy back in 2002 and things were a lot different.

I had my hysterectomy (also due to fibroids) this way in 2020. No problems. The incisions are very small and recovery was nbd for me. Good luck to your daughter!

Mine was a vag hyst in 2011, for fibroids. Not robotic but everything came out the same as the name implies.
I was still definitely sore and weak afterward (mainly due to being anemic and needing the surgery!) so I took the full six weeks off work (plus I was dying for a vacation), but I've never regretted it for a minute. She should remember to let her body be her guide for recovery so don't push too hard, but go for easy walks and stay active while she heals.
The best part for me was the cervix is removed for a vaginal hysterectomy, so no more pap smears needed. I did keep my ovaries.

I had a hysterectomy done this way in 2012 for fibroids as well. I was quite anemic so recovery took a while. I rested as much as I needed and went for slow, short walks as soon as I felt up to it. She can join Hystersisters.com and follow along in a new weekly thread for women who have had a hysterectomy the same week as her. But tell her to keep in mind it's only helpful until it isn't. She may or may not have complications. If she doesn't it won't do her any good to read too much about other women having complications if it will upset her. But she may experience things and wonder if they're normal. Reading about other women experiencing the same thing will be a comfort. Also, we all heal differently. I'd advise accepting all the help that's offered. The anemia recovery plus healing from surgery took a while for me. I know a woman who had a full incision hysterectomy and was wearing jeans and walking the mall two weeks later. I could not have done that. So tell her to give herself time to heal. And have lots of loose, soft pants or dresses to wear. Movies, books, tv shows to binge while resting is also helpful. And last but not least, lots of water and a stool softener. She shouldn't be straining while healing.

I had one for fibroids and suspected endometriosis in 2020. Not robotic but laparoscopic. My fibroids were worse than they thought and almost ended up with an open but thankfully the other surgeon said no we can do this. It was a 4+ hour surgery but I woke up in less pain than when I went in. Recovery was up and down. I would feel good snd over to things and then be down for a day.
She will need help for a few days and help around the house for longer. There is no lifting anything heavier than a gallon of milk for 6-8 weeks. Recovery wasn’t bad just tired and felt it if I did too much. Being younger will probably help as well. I also had ovaries and tubes removed.

I second the above recommendation for hyster sisters. It was really helpful. Lots of great suggestions. There are other groups on FB as well but I don’t remember which ones I belonged to.

My sister had it done by robotics. She was home the next day and cooked dinner that evening. Recovery is so much faster with robotics. I wish your daughter a 100% sucessful surgery and quick healing!

Is this the procedure where the surgeon is controlling the robots movements?
I already told my OBGYN that I will not be having robotic hysterectomy. After dd did a report on it for college and reading more up on it, I was like nope.
More because of the lack of required hours using the robot and push from the company that made it to backdoor it's way into hospitals paying off doctors.
She should ask what exactly the surgery will entail and recovery time lines. Several friends have had hysterectomies and they are all over the spectrum as far as recovery. 3 months to a year.

Thanks everyone for your comments. @elsabell she did discover the group hystersisters and started freaking out regarding all the complications/problems some had. I did tell her everyone is different but she is a worrier. pantsonfire yes, it is doctor controlling the robotics. Her doctor is well known in her field here and my daughter trusts her. She will get more answers at her appointment next week and I helped her work on a list of questions. I believe her husband is going with her to that appointment but I told her I could go if she wanted me to. My surgery was also due to fibroids and it was a complete with 6 weeks for recovery.

I had this surgery last October after my diagnosis of endometrial cancer, and it was day surgery. Surgery in the morning and home that afternoon. I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly and easily I recovered (I am 88 years old). I did not need the pain meds that were prescribed. In fact, I didn’t need anything for pain. My daughter came for a couple of days as I recovered. There were 5 small incisions and no stitches. The marvels of modern surgery.
As a side note, I am still in treatment for cancer.

I had this surgery ~10 years ago. My doctor controlled the robot and I did have complete trust in her to do it properly. However, as accidents can happen, she nicked my bladder. She was able to repair it quickly, but that meant that I had to be put on a catheter for a bit. She felt terrible that it had happened and I'm sure, if I was given the option again, I'd still do it the same way.
My recovery was pretty quick. I had the one overnight stay and then I went home. I stayed in my room (since it's upstairs) for a day, but then I was up and at 'em since I had 3 small kids to take care of.

I had a complete hysterectomy using the robot on October 1st of last year. My personal experience could not have been better. They took me back to surgery at 10:30 am and I was in recovery by noon. They discharged me at 2:30 and by 4:00, I had taken a short walk around the cul-de-sac in my neighborhood. I was back at work in 8 days. I never needed any pain meds but I was pretty tired.
The one thing that I was not prepared for was that I had hot flashes, migraines, and dry skin for about 3 months afterwards. Since I was through menopause for so long, I was not expecting that. My surgery was done by the gynecological oncologist since I am currently in remission for colon cancer and my cancer markers were a little wonky. All tumors and cysts were benign and my numbers are finally back to normal.

I had a vaginal hysterectomy. I didn't have any incisions though. It was all done through the vagina.
