I have many years of photos and memorabilia to scrap -- 28 years' worth for one child and 26 for the other -- and while the 3 of us love the look of traditional scrapbooks, we also agree that digital scrapbooking and bound books are the better option for them, their lifestyles, etc.
The problem is that I am totally lost. I know I can take online classes and that you ladies here are a font of information (I've been reading the various threads), but I'm just not a tech-savvy person. I've learned new skills such as using publishing programs for a specific task, but it was slow going and very frustrating. I'd love to find some face-2-face classes or workshops, but I've searched and searched and can't find any.
When I look at tutorials, even the ones for newbies are filled with language I do not know, and I'm feeling overwhelmed. What do you suggest for this 50+ year old completely novice digital scrapbooker??

In order to better answer your question, I have a few for you: Where are you, geographically? And you're looking for sort of a crash-course into digi, yeah?

I'm in St. Charles, MO, just across the Missouri River from St. Louis.
I would take whatever lessons, workshop, etc., I can find that I can find, to be really honest. Short-term, something longer and more in-depth, etc.

If you like classes but can't find them in your area, digitalscrapper.com and scrapgirls.com both have sequenced tutorials available on disk relatively in expensively. Both start with the absolute basics and give lots of practice.

I have a few friends that are a couple of hours from you, and I'm checking to see if I can find anyone closer to you, or local classes. Sometimes, an in-person demo is the easiest way to get started. Having said that, I'm a huge fan of Tiffany Tillman, and the classes at Scrapaneers are top notch. I know she's working on a new (totally free) class for complete newbies, and it is coming in February. You could sign up to her NL to stay up to date on that.

I have learned everything I know about digi scrapping from youtube videos! I started out with a free template and once I learned how to "fill" that in I was able to run with it. I bought Photoshop Elements and I searched youtube for digital scrapbooking for the program I had. I am still learning as I have only been doing it for about a year, but I've had so much fun with it!

tammiem2pnc, thank you for sharing that! I rarely think of going to YouTube, so I know I wouldn't even have thought of that!

Are you using a particular program? I have PSE but only use it for very basic stuff and designing my xmas cards.
Have you tried use a photobook site? I made a couple of photobooks with shutterfly (one was about 100 pages) digi scrap style. You are limited to their design but they have a pretty good custom/manual option that I think would be a nice intro for a newbie.
PSE has a BIG learning curve even with someone who is comfortable with technology. If I were not comfortable with that type of learning curve I would look for a program that is designed specifically for scrapers but has a good support/education system. Whether that be from the company or consumers. Good luck!

I've taken some of Tiffany's classes, and yes, they are great! Good luck in your venture into Digi!! I think you are going to love it!! I started out "on a whim" just to learn Photo Shop elements program--and loved it--and never went back to paper scrapping.

I started out "on a whim" just to learn Photo Shop elements program--and loved it--and never went back to paper scrapping. I started digi last year when I realized I wasn't scrapping at all because of the hassle it was to get everything out and then put it all back away if I ran out of time. I don't have a scrappy space and I run a daycare out of my house. Very rarely did I have time to sit down and do an entire LO, but I couldn't leave it sit out. I don't think I will ever go back to paper scrapping other than for special projects and mini albums. I love me some mini albums...LOL. I also founds I scrap my faster digitally. No more searching and searching for just the right embellishment. If I don't have something that works, I will recolor an element to make it fit. LOVE IT!
