My husband and I were just telling our sons about this tradition. Both of us grew up with those eggs on Easter Sunday. They made quite a mess. While we both make a point to share our cultural traditions with our sons, this was just one of those things that we never did with them. It's just one of those things that are more fun when you are in a group. It's just us four here and the rest of our families live in Los Angeles. Like Karenlou pointed out, they kind of hurt, especially when it's an older cousin or sibling breaking one on you lol.

I stayed with my cousin in Texas for a week when I was 15 and they were in the process of saving up eggs for this. They filled most with confetti and a few with flour.

My family did all confetti, except for two with flour. Then it became a game of tag. I don’t have a lot of fun childhood memories, but this is one. My in laws make eggs and fill them with money and it just feels wrong to me.

Where I grew up I knew families who did them. First time someone smashed one on my head was veeeeery startling!

Our family does them! DH is Hispanic (and I'm not) so it was something I learned from his family. His mother makes dozens and dozens of them and even sells them. It's a fun tradition! My DH is bald so getting cracked on the head isn't as fun as it used to be...sometimes he ends up with cuts.

We were stationed in Texas for three years, and they were very popular there. Haven't seen them anywhere else.
