I haven't worn perfume since Clinique gave out those little samplers of Happy. I would like to try something really light and not heavy. I don't want people to gag when I get in an elevator ~ we've all been there, right? I'm not looking to break the bank, just get some recommendations for scents that you find appealing. TIA! Wow, thanks Peas, you never fail to amaze me! I will take all your suggestions under advisement and sort it out.

White Shoulders is a mild fragrance and smells so nice, very affordable too.

When I'm looking for a new fragrance, I find it helpful to go to a full-service department store such as Nordstrom and spend some time at the perfume counter trying a few different scents. Talk to the associates and give them an idea what you like in a scent (florals, spicy/woodsy, etc.) and they can recommend some for you to try. Their recommendations can be based on a category (like the aforementioned), or based on scents you have worn and liked in the past.

Liz Taylor's White Diamonds is a nice light scent that I have liked for years. I also like Cinnabar by Este Lauder.

I have worn Dolce & Gabbana "Light Blue" for years ... it is a citrusy floral that I love!

I have worn Dolce & Gabbana "Light Blue" for years ... it is a citrusy floral that I love! Me too! It's the perfect balance - not too sweet, not too flowery, and just the right amount of "tart" without being sour.

You might want to check out Amazing Grace by Philosophy. Be sure to test drive anything you are considering. Some fragrances smell good at first and then take a turn after several hours, depending on individual body chemistry.

White Shoulders is a mild fragrance and smells so nice, very affordable too. I think that might be what my mom wore.

I remember thinking a woman at the grocery store had on a nice *clean* fragrance. She told me it was Perry Ellis so I bought some. It made me smell like I had just showered with a strong soap. I gave it away on FB Buy Nothing.

I’m all over the place. For years I wore Estee Super. Years. Then I started working at a large department store and always switched. I liked Donna Karan, Cashmere Mist. I wore the whole collection for a long time. Tried Aromatics Elixir for a time. Very unique scent. I now mostly wear Pink Sugar, which smells exactly like it sounds. Of these, I would recommend Cashmere Mist.

I like Jo Malone and Replica. I like clean and citrus. The bottle last a long time. I would get sampler sizes and see what you like. They last a while too.

As someone who struggles with most scents worn by others (migraine, breathing problems etc) May I say that a perfumier once told me that if YOU can not smell a scent on yourself after 20 minutes or so, it does not mean that it’s faded and you need to splash more on, it means it’s working well with your body chemistry and suits you well. Others will still be able to smell it. The more concentrated a perfume, the less it needs reapplying through the day. Eau de toilette might need reapplying every 4 hours or so but eau de parfum might take you from morning to night without a second application.
Daisy Wild by Marc Jacobs is a lovely fresh scent.

My go to in my much younger days was Avon's Heaven Scent. I used to also love Charlie, White Shoulders and wore Cashmere Mist for a long time. Now I lean more towards light musk scents like Sand and Fog Vanilla Musk.

Whatever it is, please be sure no one else can smell it unless they are right next to you. Perfume is a major trigger for a lot of people's allergies

My current favorite scent is Burberry Her. Its not a Bargain scent, but I don't think you want to smell like a bargain scent. I did see Kohls has a mini set of Burberry Her and Burberry Goddess for $35 if you wanted to try a smaller bottle.

I am enjoying Salt & Stone's Saffron & Cedar right now. I had ordered a deodorant sampler from them, and that was my favorite scent. I trend towards more fresh/woody scents. I loved the scent in the deodorant, and honestly sometimes that is just enough on it's own. But I ordered the body mist and really like it. It is a very light scent, since it is a body mist and not really a perfume. I give my hair a mist and maybe a shot on my arms. You can order Discovery Sets to try out their scents. Salt & StoneI also have some NEST Santa Barbara Strawberry that I use. It is fruity with a bit of musk. It is a light fragrance too. I have the roller ball so that is easy to put in a little bag to bring along with me. NEST Santa Barbara StrawberryIf you want to try some fragrances without committing big dollars for a full size one - ScentBird is a fun subscription. You can pick your scents and you get a decent sized spray tube, not those tiny vials. You can do short term 3 month subscription or longer. ScentBird and ScentBox are two very similar ones. I have loved them!

Another vote for the Daisy by Marc Jacobs scents. There are different variations of them & I tend to like them all!

Im another for Light Blue by D&G. You should be able to get a small sample size to try out at department stores that sell it.

Bargain scents can be as good as high end prices and scents.

I used to always wear Donna Karan Cashmere Mist. I loved it so much but when I had cancer, we weren't allowed to wear scents to the cancer center because some chemos make a person very sensitive to smell. The chemo drugs I received didn't do that but I never wanted to make anyone else miserable so I gave up wearing perfume completely. That was 2009 and I haven't worn any since then. Sometimes I wish I had a little something for when I want a nice scent but it's not worth it to me.

Clinique Happy is still around 28 years later! My longtime favorites, Body Shop White Musk & Prada Amber, were discontinued last year. I especially like the new Prada Paradoxe Virtual Flower Eau de Parfum but also suggest checking out the ($30/bottle) Fine'ry line at Target (e.g. designer dupes)

I like Jo Malone and Replica. I like clean and citrus. The bottle last a long time. I would get sampler sizes and see what you like. They last a while too. I think these are good options. They all have nice sampler sets. Jo Malone Necterine Blossom and honey is light, fresh and summery. It doesn’t last very long though. My favorite right now is Delina by Parfums de Marley, but it’s pretty $$$. I bought it in a replica oil for now.
