Happy Cinco de Mayo!
Today we're celebrating the brand new grandbaby of our sweet hutchfan. In case you missed it, hutchfan posted about her newest love, yesterday. I wish you and your family loads of joy and snuggly cuddles.
How is my lovely tribe today?
Tearisci, how is everything? I hope that this week is much calmer for all of you.
I am supposed to start a two week at-home test this am, but I doubt anyone wants me in their airspace, so I have a call into the doc to see if I still should come in and get hooked up. I don't feel like going anywhere. I already cancelled voice. I cannot sing and even if I could I cannot afford the window repairs for my entire neighborhood. I'll behave today, which makes the day quite boring.
Dinner is likely takeout for dh and ods.
What are you up to today?
What's on your menu?
Wishing my tribe a happy, fulfilling week ahead! Smile a lot and be well, my friends.

Sorry you're still feeling poorly scrapmaven! We got my dad out of the house last night and went to PF Changs. He loves their wonton soup. He can never remember the name of the restaurant so always calls it the "big horse place." Mom is doing ok. Her blood sugar is really high today and was low all day yesterday. She's so brittle and hard to treat correctly. I've got parent duty all next weekend as my sister will be out of town so I'm going to take it easier the early part of the week. Not sure what dinner will be tonight. I've got a spatchcocked chicken from TJs and I also have steak. I'll see what I feel like making the closer it gets to dinnertime. Hope you all have a great day!

scrapmaven I'm actually getting a picture of just how sick you are which is difficult usually to read between the lines but this time I can guess you feel pretty darn miserable. ❤️ I'm sending my big hugs. Rest. I'm kind of at a loss. Jeremy daughter came here on Thursday to spend the summer with us. She specifically came here because she was looking for somewhere quiet. Well she told Jeremy yesterday she's bored. Umm...we are boring people. I thought that is why she came. 🤣 I had an errand to run this morning and I had said to Jeremy that she has a sewing machine and she told me she uses it to alter her clothing. I told Jeremy that since I'm off today I would take her on a trip to Grand rapids so she could pick out some apparel fabric and pattern/notions and give sewing a garment from scratch. He asked her and she wasn't receptive. I don't know what to do with her. Dinner tonight will be some beef stir fry and "beef" stir fry. With snap peas over rice.

congrats hutchfan!! another sunny day. I have to put away all the stuff I took to the class yesterday. my box oven cookies.. first batch burned on bottom.. second batch perfect.
had lunch for dinner last night.. apple slices with peanut butter, small cup of popcorn.
tonight, I might make chicken with mushrooms over pasta and some asparagus.
it is supposed to be warm today. but it is still windy.. so hope it won't be too bad.

jeremysgirl, thank you. I think it's just a cold or virus, but it has zapped all of my energy. You know me well. Your stepdaughter is an adult. She chose to stay w/you both during her break. It's up to her to find ways to entertain herself. I think it's great that you wanted to take her to the fabric store and sew w/her. What a great idea for bonding. The most you can do is continue to be welcoming and offer some ideas for her. Be prepared that nothing might sound good to her. So, do your thing and hopefully, she'll start to take more responsibility for her summer. She's not 8 and it's not your job to take her to the park. cadoodlebug, have fun w/your birdhouse. That sounds really enjoyable. Linda, it's a very exciting time for all of you. Is your graduating dd the youngest? Tearisci, I am sending calm week thoughts for all of you. You need that. ntsf, your dinner sounds delicious. Enjoy today.

She's college-age, right? Does she drive or is she relying on you guys for rides? We're boring people also and my teens/young adults spend down time baking, cooking dinner once a week, playing Minecraft and other computer games, helping out around the house, watching movies/shows, reading. They like thrift stores, used book stores, museums, nature walks, the library... I don't do a lot of planning activities for them tbh whether they are still living at home or visiting. We'll probably go to the springs to swim and I'm planning on a pool membership for June so we'll go to the pool most afternoons but...that's about it for planned fun, lol.

Congratulations hutchfan - baby granddaughters are wonderful! scrapmaven - I hope you are soon feeling much better. The situation with your stepdaughter sounds stressful jeremysgirl. Hopefully she settles a bit in the coming days and finds something to fill her time. Today I had to go into the city to apply for a police check. Our church now requires it for everyone who works with children (I know - we are so behind. I needed this in Australia 20 years ago!) It was crazy - 40 minutes each way to the Citizen’s Bureau for a ten minute appointment, basically handing in forms and showing my ID. It actually took longer than it should have, as he tried to charge me for it, even though I had a letter from my priest saying I was a volunteer, which makes it free. It was sorted quickly though, so all is good. Usually if I am going into the city for anything like this I stay in and make the most of the trip, shopping and having lunch but it was cold and rainy so I just came home. Dinner tonight is marinated chicken sticks - bought ready prepared from the butcher - which I will have with rice and maybe some salad.

Linda, it's a very exciting time for all of you. Is your graduating dd the youngest? yes - she is my youngest (18). Unfortunately her older siblings aren't able to come home for graduation (DS33 and DD25). The empty nest is going to hold a bit since she'll be living at home and commuting to University - but that's okay. I enjoy her company and am in no rush for her to move out. In fact DH and I are hoping to find a way to move closer to the older kids once DD18 finishes University esp. since DD18 plans to move to that are as well.

Hi friends! Sorry for my absence. The world has felt heavy and I've just been pushing through. My semester is finished and except for my grades and graduation. I am almost done. I am SO ready for a break. I try to read to stay caught up and send prayers/good energy for those goubg through it, which it seems like a lot of us! Today I am mostly hanging at home. I'd like to get to the library this afternoon to pick up some requested items. The gas company is here tearing up jack near the street, so I need to be available in case they turn off the gas and need to relight our stuff before they leave. I hope this is a one and done because they left everything torn up in the fall and it looks terrible. Special thanks to jeremysgirl for the cautionary tale....while I HATE hearing you have shingles, it (along with the horrifying discussion about shingles in the nether regions) did spur us to finally go and get the 1st shingles vaccine yesterday. We have sore arms but that's a small price to pay. We go back in a couple months. Hope you are done with it soon! We had a very full but good weekend. We have several home improvement projects in the works and we're making progress, including a new additional run of cabinets in the kitchen, new sink, countertops, backsplash, hardware, etc. So fun!!! We found a new front door that I will paint for only 20 bucks (and an hour drive) that will let in lots of light. And we found a beautiful kitchen gadget store that I spent way too much money in. I can't resist nordicware bundt pans and I found a new one I've never seen before... one pan to make 4 small bundts in the 4 most popular designs. I have found a little niche making bundts that are decorated with flowers like layer cakes. These will be the perfect size for a little gift. Dinner? No idea. Maybe tacos somewhere. We have a baseball game scheduled if it doesn't rain. Our last few weeks of sports for the last of the grandsons before he graduates next month. Even though we freeze and fry we will miss it all so much. Baseball, wrestling, football (and basketball for the first one) for 2 boys. Just showing up for them. It turns out that's all it takes to build a loving relationship with teenage boys. Who knew?? I have stuff for several dinners I could throw together too. Meatloaf and mashed potatoes, chicken and rice. Toasted sub sandwiches. Grilled cheese on cheddar jalapeño sourdough with potato soup. We will figure out something. Hope everyone has a great day!

Linda she does not drive. But she has a bike. And where we live there are lots of places she could ride to. I have offered the library but there's not any interest there. Jeremy basically just said what scrapmaven said that she's a grown up person and she needs to find ways to entertain herself.

tmarschall, welcome back. I've been wanting to share w/you that I also got the Peanuts toppers from Pair. They're adorable and quirky and I love it. I'm building my topper collection. Is everything OK? We're a tribe and we support eachother. Linda, it's great that you're all so close. I wish your dd much success and a happy university career.

hutchfan: Congrats on the birth of Winnie! Nothing better than grandbabies! I’ve already done all the laundry and reorganized my closet while sorting out summer shirts and vacuumed. We are in between raindrops and I’m hoping to get out for a walk. Supper will be burritos. A local shop is having a special for Cinco de Mayo.

I agree with Jeremy and Scrapmaven, but it's not very nice to have a houseguest complain. It seems like you can't do anything right there...my heart hurts for you hearing how kind you were to prepare a room and look forward to her coming, make sacrifices to accommodate her and suggestions that would take you out of your way, only to be met with I'm bored but no thanks. It may be a long summer (is it summer til she goes back to school?). scrapmaven I'm glad you like your toppers. I'm actually upgrading my lenses in my original pair (I cheated out til I knew i liked them) and ordering another pair of readers in my original frames (Ella) bc I will likely wear the toppers with readers more often than my distance pairs. I'm okay. I'm not looking to bring politics to the dinner table so I will just say it is very hard to be both a social worker and a university professor (with a Mexican family) right now.

What a great idea to have frame toppers that you can change each day to match your outfit.
I'm sorry that you have to deal w/so much stress right now. I hope all of this calms down, soon.

tmarschall she did tell me thank you on Saturday for letting her come stay with us and making Esther's old room so nice. I know she does appreciate it. This is just a big change from her mom's house. Older sister and Kylon live there as does Jeremy's youngest daughter. And then they have a 5 year old little brother too. So it's crowded and noisy there. And nobody there is working either so they go out shopping and visiting people every single day. It's just different here.

We are having tempura shrimp street tacos. Im just winging it. I have cole slaw mix and pico de gallo for them and some kind of sauce- dh has one that I think will be you much for me and I bought remoulade as well- because once you decide to use Japanese shrimp in a taco with pico, may as well throw remoulade at it!

I can’t remember if I posted that I made tuna noodle casserole last week. (Don’t laugh at me, it’s comfort food.) There was so much of it that I made a second smaller dish which I will bake tonight. Maybe. There are other choices in there, too, but if I don’t make this soon, I will need to freeze it and there is still NO space in my freezers. DS just added a large frozen pizza yesterday. (I just took another roast off my grocery order, because no matter how good a deal it is, I really need to use what’s in the freezer first.) Sorry you’re feeling so crappy, scrapmaven . CONGRATS on the new baby girl, hutchfan . Congrats on the new high school grad, Linda . jeremysgirl , how about she finds a job? Even part-time would help. Or volunteer work? If she doesn’t want to sew her own clothes, maybe she’d like craft sewing better … bags, things like that. Or learn how to crochet? Can she cook dinner for the family? I know, you already have lots of suggestions. Welcome back, tmarschall . I feel your pain. littlemama

jeremysgirl , this is a very different circumstance than she is used to seeing. She lives in a house filled w/people who don't work and maybe have too much free time. Shopping w/o jobs? I am curious if it's a healthy house? So, she comes to your house where it's quiet, the grownups work and play and live peacefully together. Give it time. She might be very out of her element. Though you're setting a great example for her. You work very hard, but you play, too. She'll learn balance. I'm hoping that she'll want to start sewing once she sees that it can keep her busy. That would be a great bonding hobby for you both.
lucyg, I used to love tuna noodle casserole , growing up. I'd gladly join you if I could. Not that I'm invited. teehee. Enjoy today.

I hope you feel better. I have a funny story like out of the mouth of babes. my two great nieces were at the daycare today so their mom and dad could go to I believe the anatomy scan ultrasound. I was there filling in so that my brother and his wife could go meet his son and his wife halfway and grab the two girls. Anyhow, one of the little kids at the daycare started to cry and I think she’s about eight months old. My four year-old, great niece, and said “ Oh no, Aunt Chris, we’re gonna have a crying baby at our house too pretty soon”. I just said yes you will.

Good afternoon everyone. I have had a full day and it is only 1:30. I woke up at 5:45 and tried to go back to sleep. Nope, not today. So I was up and had done laundry, fed the dogs, started my oatmeal and watched some news before 7am. Work and then home at lunch to cut the yard. I got half of it done before I decided to mulch some pine straw from my pool dump out yesterday. Well, the top and sides I could see were dry, but the middle was not. I ended up stalling out the lawn mower. After just getting it running last night. After a very good friend and his wife came over to help me with it. So I sent her a text with a good laugh that only half of my yard it cut and it the part I can't see. Figures. I am hoping to get the rest of it done tonight. It is time to get my fancy little blow up pool area summer ready. I just hope I don't smell like gas. I got dressed and then sprayed some Ozium and walked through it. I was hoping it would neutralize any gas fumes that might be on me. I was supposed to go to a baseball game tonight for dear friends' son. It was originally senior night. A lot of scheduling changes due to rain-outs and such and now it is an away game. Only 25 minutes away but I am greedy and don't want to give up almost an hour of travel to see the last game and he might not play. And it's Cinco de Mayo and I want my tacos and margaritas tonight. I also have the aforementioned yard, getting trash out, putting some stuff away from the weekend. I was told by the mom to not worry about it and do what I needed to do. They understood. I just hate it... So if I don't go, I will use the soyrizo from TJs and make tacos. I think my avocados are too far gone for guac. That may be a trip by the store. Our restaurants around here don't make guac as good my own so I want the good stuff. Most likely a pot of spiced out black beans on the side. Then they can be used for Taco Tuesday with some sweet potatoes. I had a great weekend with the kids. Nice to get away but the pups and I were ready to be back home and in our routine. I don't feel like going anywhere I hope you get to feeling better soon. Mom is doing ok. Her blood sugar is really high today and was low all day yesterday. She's so brittle and hard to treat correctly. Awwww, bless her. And you and your sister. I am glad to hear your dad felt like going out. it's going to be in the 90s by Friday! UGH double UGH!! We are holding in the mid 70s this week. I am just waiting for hell's gates to open up here. I dread it. jeremysgirl I am sorry. I have no advice. I do agree with everyone else, there just may be a time of adjustment. Winnie is doing well and her brothers already love her so much! Congratulations!! I love this so much. We are having tempura shrimp street tacos That sounds so good. I would do a bang bang sauce for them. I made tuna noodle casserole last week I love a good tuna sandwich. I just can't make myself even think that a tuna noodle casserole is good. I know my mother made some sort of noodle casserole and I ate it. Because I was a kid and sort of had to but I really don't think it was tuna. I think she used chicken. I just hear people talk about it and say comfort food and realize not for me. Now, having said that my comfort food is a bowl of egg noodles, highly buttered with a scrambled egg mixed in. Lots of pepper. I will always want that when I don't feel good.

Tuna noodle is serious comfort food for me too, lucyg. I love noodles in about any format. My grandma used to make it. And no hi-brow/make cream soup from scratch bs. Tuna, cream of mushroom, noodles and potato chips on top. No cheese. No peas. No panko. Just lots of black pepper, lava hot.
