This story is local to me so I very interested in seeing what happens with this. He was convicted of violating George Floyds civil rights and is serving his sentence in a Federal Prison concurrently with his sentence from Minnesota for murder. Now, our twice impeached president is getting pressure to grant him a Federal pardon.
Lordy, I don't even want to imagine what might happen if that happens here in Minnesota. As I am sure you know, there were terrible riots when he was killed. The area where this happened still hasn't recovered and the community can't agree on a memorial to commemorate his death. It's been 5 years since his death.
Nothing will really change for Chauvin though. He still has his sentence for murder and that can only be commuted by the governor, which isn't happening. If I am correct he will will have to serve at least 2/3 of his 22.5 year sentence in MN before he is released. There is no parole in Federal convictions.
What are your thoughts? Is this parole possibility a non issue or not?

I heard a little about this on the news this morning. I don't see how it would be helpful at all since he wouldn't be getting out of prison. All it would do is reignite the racism and create more division between people. But, I guess that is what the right likes.

It takes a trial, with 12 people deciding if a person is guilty or not. IMO, one solitary person should not have the power to overturn the decision made by 12.

If he is pardoned from the federal charges things will change for Chauvin. He preferred and choose to go the the Federal prison rather the state facility. Much better conditions. With a pardon I would think he would be sent to a state facility,

They are still big mad (1) that cops aren’t supposed to kill with impunity and (2) that this case helped foment demands for racial justice. They know he won’t be released but it’s symbolic approval for his behavior.

That’s my take too. MAGA is celebrating, but Chauvin isn’t getting out of prison for a long time, and there is nothing that #47 can do about it. I can smell the frustration in the air. ☺️

They can have their symbolic justice, and Chauvin can continue to have 3 hots and a cot, courtesy of the state. |
