I’ve been wearing an Apple Watch since they came out. Before that, I wore the Nike Fuel band. Before that, I had Nike shoes with an area in the sole dedicated to a pedometer. I really really like data and am one of those crazy data people that find motivation in rounding out miles, setting minimum, baseline and stretch goals.
Very rarely (almost happened today!) I charge my watch and forget it- and making myself do an untracked work out is just really mentally hard. I’ll still do it, but it will bug me for months that I missed adding valuable data to my trends etc.
So, I’m looking at the Oura ring. I like that the charge lasts for a few days, I also like that it wouldn’t be as “smart watch” on my wrist lol I’m lazy when it comes to accessories. I wear the same earrings for literally years. And I wear the same daily rings and necklaces for months (and sometimes years.)
I am the person that sleeps in my jewelry, showers with it.. I do (usually) remove most of it for swimming. So I like the idea that the Oura is so strong in the sleep tracking department.
First world problem is that I have a bracelet stack I’d like to wear, and I don’t like the way it looks with the watch. I’ve been wearing the bracelets when I dress to go out, and then going back to the watch for the day/workouts. I can’t make myself wear anything on my right wrist (plus, in my profession, it’s a serious hinderance for me.) I also really dislike the bracelet stack on one arm and watch on the other look. It’s like dressing for the Kentucky Derby and wearing dirty sneakers lol Anyway, it’s driving me batty switching them out.
As for other apps, controlling music, notifications. I 100% don’t care about that. But I want good, granular data on my workouts and my daily activity, and I read that Oura and Strava are either now, or soon, going to work together.
Anyone wear the Oura? Do you like it? Do you think it’s worth the experiment for me?
Edited to add— I’m 100% in the camp that the data doesn’t have to be perfect. I look more at trends and as long as it is consistent, that is fine for me.
Example- the treadmills at my gym tend to read 5 miles and my watch will say 4.45 miles. I really don’t care if the tread workout is off by a bit as long as it’s consistent. So when my body travels 5 miles on the treadmill at my gym, it’s the same day to day so I can gauge effort and progress. Outside, the watch is super on, based on tracks and race routes, I’m guessing that’s due to the GPS...
