Sooooo I was downloading my photos from my camera to my computer today, and then it hit me. I really can't call myself a scrapper anymore. I'm not sure which is worse - the fact that I haven't downloaded since May or that I only had 200 photos to download, lol. My iPhone photos are downloaded more frequently but I don't scrap most of those. I'm going to have to add "take more pictures" to my 2015 scrappy goals now.

I have the opposite problem. I take way too many photos to scrap them all!

I usually pick a good picture from the year to use as my card photo. I couldn't find one from all of 2014. My husband, who is far less picky, also couldn't find a good one. I've committed to taking more photos with my good camera this year, also.

I have no pictures from Christmas this year and I still haven't printed the few I took last year. I usually take at least 100.

I didn't take many photos last year but have started taking more since thanksgiving. I always forget to rake any on thanksgiving and always get mad at myself about it. I also forgot to take a picture of FIL on Christmas Eve or mil or her mother on Christmas Day . I am another that needs to do better this year.

why don't you 'count' the pics taken with your phone, and why do you think you can't scrap them?? And if you post pics and commentary to Facebook (most people do, so I'm guessing you do), isn't that 'memory keeping'of a sort, like scrapbooking is?? Scrapbook with any and all pics you want to- phone, camera, or none at all!! ETA: not trying to be argumentative with my post, but I just don't like putting 'rules' or 'restrictions' on scrapbooking as a hobby, so I guess the word 'failing' in your subject line struck a nerve with me, lol. There aren't any rules, and no 'right' or 'wrong' way to scrapbook. If it's not what you want to do, then that's a different story, but don't feel like you're 'failing' because you're taking less pictures with a 'real' camera (whatever that is).

My husband and sons are snowboarding up in the mountains. No way was I braving the cold. I had them send me the pictures they took. I am fine with phone pictures if I need to be.

You ARE a scrapbooker! It is all in the intent. If at some point in the near or distant future you might document your memories through photos or words/art/anything, then you are a scrapper!

Eight times out of ten, my cell phone photos STINK. I even bought a few different camera apps in an attempt to get better photos out of it because I always have my phone with me, so sometimes it's the only camera I've got at the moment. I bought a new point & shoot last year because so many of my photos are taken in low light conditions and my phone flash just doesn't cut it, but I don't always have it along because I hate having one more thing in my already too full/too heavy purse!
I've always been really bad about taking Thanksgiving photos, and this year I barely took any on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day either. I took a lot earlier in the month for Dec. Daily and when we were at Disney, so I still have plenty of photos to sift through.

The camera that my husband bought me a few years ago always took horrible photos so I just started using my phone and now that is how I take all my photos, I dare say that most of the photos I have scrapbooked in the last year have come from a camera phone. I am not the best at taking photos and I am always forgetting to take photos but they are what I have and I am happy to use them in my scrapbooking.

A lot of my phone photos (and my camera photos) aren't great. But because the story is important, I scrap them anyway. They're never going to win design awards but at least the story is captured somewhere.

I lost my camera before Christmas 2013 and haven't taken a photo since - I have a really old phone and the photos on it are worse than useless. Every time I think I have saved up for a new camera an unexpected bill turns up. I keep asking DD to transfer any photos she has from her iphone across to my pc but nothing doing so far. It's a real bummer I still do scrapbook but am working on older photos. Since I started working full time I quit all of my creative teams so at least now I don't feel obliged to only scrap the best photos ... which means I am going back to scanned in pics and so on that I would never have used on a layout used for CT work.

I only use my iPhone for photos. I have some great pictures. I truly don't get the thought that if you're not using a big DSLR your pictures are crap and you might as well give up.

Slight S/O of OP...I can't get my son and DIL to take photos with a camera! I have given them two easy point & shoot cameras. They take cell phone pictures and send them to me, which I appreciate, but the quality is not there. My poor grandchildren are not going to have decent photos except when they are with us. We live 850 miles away, so they won't have photos from a lot of events.
That said, I still scrap the cell photos even if they aren't great. I decided a bad photo is better than no photo.

Thanks for all the input! Some of my iPhone photos do make it into my PL album, but the photos I take are mostly of food or quick snapshots that don't have much story behind it. That's why I don't scrap traditional pages with my iPhone photos. Sorry, I meant for the post to be a bit more lighthearted and more like a reminder for me to take more photos.
To be honest, I don't even own a DSLR. I have a point & shoot camera that's 4 years old and it takes decent photos - not great, but good enough. I'm just a slow scrapper that haven't scrapped a single event from the 2nd half of 2014, lol.

To the op. If all you do is scrap 1 picture a year, you're still a scrapbooker. Scrapbooking is about preserving memories, not how many pictures we may take. Think about those that have no pictures of their childhood or ancestors. I say document your memories even if it means pages with just journaling. I take most of my pictures with my iPhone. Some are blurry, some are are great. I scrap the crappy ones too. down the road when you look back, you'll be glad that you Atlease captured the memory.

99% of the photos I take now are with my phone and those go in my PL album. That way I'm more likely to take pics because I have my phone with me all the time - but I have to specifically remember to take out the camera.

A couple of years ago I made the decision to take fewer photos. I wanted to be more in the moment and enjoy the company I was with and my surroundings more. For me, that meant I needed to put the camera down. I realized that year after year my Thanksgiving/Christmas/birthday/etc photos pretty much looked the same. Same group of people, same settings, same everything. So for holidays and events I had no trouble not even bringing my camera with me. And you know what? I really did enjoy myself more. Now if I take a camera somewhere it is because something is going on that likely won't ever happen again (wedding, birth of a baby, travel) and if I do feel the need to take a picture during an everyday type moment I will use my cell phone. My phone doesn't take very good pictures but they are good enough and better than no photo.
