“ Harvey Bernard Milk (May 22, 1930 – November 27, 1978) was an American politician and the first openly gay man to be elected to public office in California, as a member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors.” Milk was also in the military and fought in the Korean War Sometime during the Biden Administration a navy ship was named Harvey Milk. Today it was announced that the name of the Harvey Milk will soon be changed. The reason for changing the name given? trump wants to have a “warrior culture”in the military. The problem with that is Milk served and fought in the Korean War while the idiot hid behind bone spurs to keep him out of Vietnam which is the action of a coward , not a warrior. So we have a coward giving the finger to a warrior. A petty move by trump. AP link

milk was a warrior for rights and recognition. I would have a big problem with anyone thinking he was not a warrior. course he fought for things trump hates. he was a righteous man. we definitely honor him in San Francisco.
they are petty and cruel..

Other names that might be replaced. ”Other ships being recommended for renaming are the USNS Thurgood Marshall, USNS Ruth Bader Ginsburg, USNS Harriet Tubman, USNS Dolores Huerta, USNS Lucy Stone, USNS Cesar Chavez and USNS Medgar Evers” What does this say about who’s accomplishments can be acknowledged by naming a navy ship after them? x.com/dave_brown24/status/1929960546712830178?s=61&t=j45uMgNk1i8O0YllKF58nw

Navy is erasing civil rights heroes. Also on the Navy's renaming "recommended list" are the USNS Thurgood Marshall, USNS Ruth Bader Ginsburg, USNS Harriet Tubman, USNS Dolores Huerta, USNS Lucy Stone, USNS Cesar Chavez and USNS Medgar Evers. CBS News also found "that a December 2024 web article from Naval Sea Systems Command about the laying of the keel for the future USNS Thurgood Marshall has been deleted." *** Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi told CBS News in statement, "The reported decision by the Trump Administration to change the names of the USNS Harvey Milk and other ships in the John Lewis-class is a shameful, vindictive erasure of those who fought to break down barriers for all to chase the American Dream." She added, "Our military is the most powerful in the world – but this spiteful move does not strengthen our national security or the "warrior" ethos. Instead, it is a surrender of a fundamental American value: to honor the legacy of those who worked to build a better country." CBS cited the navy memo that said "the renaming of naval ships was to realign the U.S. military with Trump administration priorities of 'reestablishing the warrior culture.'" www.rawstory.com/dei-2672256680/

Of all of the petty, spiteful, vindictive actions. I expect him to try to rename the USS John McCain, too. Remember the request to hide the USS John McCain? Just another step in the MAGA effort to whitewash history. Keep or change back places, monuments etc named for Confederate generals but eliminate those named for civil rights leaders. www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-48456742Trump defends request to hide ship named John McCainwww.nytimes.com/2025/06/03/us/politics/navy-ships-harvey-milk-renamed.htmlU.S. May Strip Harvey Milk’s Name From Navy Vessel Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered a review of ship names honoring Mr. Milk, a gay rights pioneer, and other leaders. In Mr. Milk’s case, the move is intended as a rebuke of Pride Month.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has ordered the Navy to review the names of vessels honoring prominent civil rights leaders, including Harvey Milk, who was one of the country’s first openly gay elected officials and a Navy veteran.
News of Mr. Hegseth’s decision, reported earlier by Military.com, comes just days into Pride Month, which celebrates the contributions of luminaries in the L.G.B.T.Q. community.
Instead, Mr. Hegseth’s order was intended as a rebuke of Pride Month, keeping with the Trump administration’s drive to expunge diversity, equity and inclusion efforts across the federal government, according to a senior defense official familiar with the decision.
Mr. Milk is one of several trailblazers whose name has been identified for possible removal from naval vessels. According to a senior official familiar with a memo from John Phelan, the secretary of the Navy, they include Thurgood Marshall, the first Black Supreme Court justice; Ruth Bader Ginsburg, another Supreme Court justice, who became a feminist icon; Harriet Tubman, who, after being born into slavery, became an abolitionist instrumental in the Underground Railroad; Lucy Stone, a prominent abolitionist and suffragist; Medgar Evers, a civil-rights leader who was assassinated by a member of the Ku Klux Klan; Cesar Chavez, a labor leader; and Dolores Huerta, another labor leader.pelosi.house.gov/news/press-releases/pelosi-statement-reported-navy-decision-rename-usns-harvey-milkPelosi Statement on the Reported Navy Decision to Rename USNS Harvey Milk June 3, 2025 Press Release Washington, D.C. – Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi released the following statement on the reported decision by the Trump Administration to rename the USNS Harvey Milk and other Navy ships in the John Lewis-class: “Harvey Milk proudly served as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy and was a formidable force for change – not just in California, but in our Country. While he is remembered for his LGBTQ+ advocacy, Harvey fought for the dignity and worth of every person. In San Francisco, we take great pride that our Harvey’s name adorns a mighty ship among a new class of Navy vessels – named for the conscience of the Congress, John Lewis – which honor titans in the fight for freedom. The names of those who fought for civil rights and human rights bring luster to these ships – as their leadership brought luster to America. “The reported decision by the Trump Administration to change the names of the USNS Harvey Milk and other ships in the John Lewis-class is a shameful, vindictive erasure of those who fought to break down barriers for all to chase the American Dream. Our military is the most powerful in the world – but this spiteful move does not strengthen our national security or the “warrior” ethos. Instead, it is a surrender of a fundamental American value: to honor the legacy of those who worked to build a better country. “As the rest of us are celebrating the joy of Pride Month, it is my hope that the Navy will reconsider this egregious decision and continue to recognize the extraordinary contributions of Harvey Milk, a Veteran himself, and all Americans who forged historic progress for our nation.”

Of course. The cruelty is the point with small, pathetic people. One day we will get beyond this fascist regime. And when we do, I hope every one of those names are switched back.

It’s disgraceful. Harvey Milk was a true patriot, unlike these idiots who run around using the word all of the time. Do these Republicans have ANY redeeming qualities?

I guess it is easier to change the name instead of create real policy.
I really wish I knew why Congress dropped Signalgate.
