Pain in your legs because you were shooting up in height so quickly? My sisters and I remember this, and it was bad.

Nope, but I’m short so what is this “shooting up in height” thing you speak of? I do remember being so tired after school in 8th-9th grade that I couldn’t keep my eyes open. My mom dragged me to the doctor who basically told her to have me eat breakfast AND drink breakfast shakes on top of that every day because they thought I was lacking in iron or protein.

Not me, but my younger sisters had very painful growing pains when they were in their pre teens/pubescent years. My mom made some of my granddaddy's muscle rub (he was a boxer) for their legs, pain was behind the knees. I remember the smell of wintergreen rub used with heating pads and hot water bottles. I loved and still love the smell of the rub, but hated the sounds of them crying at night, seems like it was always at night when the pains would affect them.

I remember it a little but I certainly never got tall. I remember my son having them too, and he was so worried there was something wrong with him.

I didn't have the growing pains, but my sister did a lot and she would cry with the pain. I remember my dad rubbing wintergreen linament on her legs many a times. I still love the smell of the rub as well!

I had pain in my knees and then lower back as a teen. Turns out it was the beginning of my Ankylosing Spondylitis. I wasn't diagnosed until my 20's which is common with women.

My kids complained of pain, especially in their knees. I took them to their pediatrician, and both were diagnosed with Osgood-Schlatters disease. They had to ice, rest and go easy for sports/gym classes, but were fine. They are both 5’8” (my son has never been happy about that!), their dad is 6’1” and I am 5’1”. I don’t remember growing pains, but I had stomach aches all the time. I was a perfectionist and worrier. My mom took me to the dr and he said I had SSG. She thought I was dying until he said I had “Super Sensitive Gut!”

I had them so bad my mom finally took me to the doctor and they ran all kinds of tests. They didn’t find anything and said it was just growing pains. But I never grew. I'm 5’2”. They eventually went away.

Do we have the same parents? I think I was in 9th grade when my parents dragged me to the doctor because I would fall asleep in my bedroom after school. I can't remember what the doctor said at the appointment, I just remember being annoyed I had to go. I am also short, and never had a giant growth spurt or growing pains. My older kids did not have them but DS is only 11...

I didn't, but my youngest had severe growing pains in his knees from about age 6 to 10. He is by far the tallest in our family. One night when I was rubbing his knees, he said it felt like bugs crawling in his legs. Since I had no prior experience with this, I took him to the doctor. They did take x rays and during the consultation, the doctor looked right at me and said, "you're worried it's something serious, like cancer. It is not, he's fine, it's just growing pains." I literally broke down sobbing. Didn't even realize how much of that fear I was holding in - I never said a word to anyone in the family about that worry. ugh, looking back, I know I was way over the top worried, but that's my reaction to everything, so it tracks.

Oh yeah, I remember them quite vividly. My mom used to rub my legs to try and ease the pain.

Oh yes! I would get the pains behind my knees and I would just cry. My parents started making me eat a banana before bed and they eventually went away. Did the banana really help? I don't know, but I was usually able to fall back asleep quickly after eating it.

Yep. I was the tallest student through middle school. Not the tallest girl, the tallest student. Back row center of all of the class pictures where they put you on risers. I took private ice skating lessons and my coach told my mom it was a waste of our time because I was growing too fast. Just as I learned a jump I would grow and throw off my center of gravity.

I have no memory of them so I am guessing no. My daughter never mentioned pains other than menstrual pains but both my sons complained about pain in their hips, spine, legs and arms at the start of puberty and sporadically through their teen years. They were both 20 before they finally stopped growing.

i am short, but shot up to this height early (tallest kid in grades 4-6), and yes, there were lots of "growing pains" in my legs, and they hurt a LOT. Mostly at night. But sometimes in the day a knee would lock and it would be extremely painful to straighten it out. My mom would rub my calves, give me baby aspirin, and tell me my bones were growing so fast that my muscles were having trouble keeping up.

I had them so bad my mom finally took me to the doctor and they ran all kinds of tests. They didn’t find anything and said it was just growing pains. But I never grew. I'm 5’2”. They eventually went away. My eldest wound up having X-rays because for whatever reason his one limb started hurting much more than the other one day and he was in a panic over it. We were on our way to a day-long outing and he was just sobbing in the back seat. I pulled over and called the doctor and asked if I could bring him right then. And once he got there he mentioned the other leg hurting but not as much. No word of that in the car when I was scratching my head wondering how this kid injured himself so badly just sitting in the car. I joke now, but we were both freaked out over this sudden pain. When the doctor said it was probably growing pains I was in shock because none of my siblings or I ever had them. I never heard any of my relatives or friends ever mention it. I didn't even know they were a real physical thing! I felt so bad for the poor kid.

I don’t remember that at all. Of course, I topped out at 5’1”, so there’s that.

Yes, in my knees and back. I was the tallest girl in my class; I was the same height as my teacher at 11, but she was taller in the class photo because of heels. The following summer I started puberty.
