This is Maria Jose. She is my student. She is five years old. She started out the year not knowing a lick of English and now I can hardly get her to stop talking. She started out so shy and frightened. Now she is spunky and full of sass. She worked hard to learn her letters and sounds, and how to write her name—which is LONG. She can count to 30 and even higher with a little help. She is so loved. She got deported earlier this week. Along with her mother. They went to an immigration interview (because they were trying hard to do things the “right” way) and were detained. They were then driven to Acapulco and unceremoniously dumped there (2 1/2 hours away from their home pueblo). Our school community is shook.  Maria Jose is not a criminal or a thug. She’s just a little girl. |

Oh my goodness. That precious child. I've had so many just like her and my heart is broken for her and her mother.
Of all the injustices currently being done by this administration, I think the arrests at scheduled ICE interviews or court hearings are some of the worst. And involving children? It's unconscionable.
I'm so sorry. Maria Jose and her family will be in my thoughts. Words can't express my anger at what this administration is doing.

At this point I can only think cruelty is the point.
My heart breaks for all those being needlessly and carelessly hurt but especially the innocent little children who don't understand.

I work in a manufacturing plant... it didnt happen at our factory but 5 members of our janitorial staff were picked up and deported or being held...
It really sucks!!

I am so very sorry, going to be protesting peacefully on Saturday and making my voice heard.
Those of you who support this will forever be haunted by the pain and suffering you have caused onto to people following the process to be a citizen of the USA.

The parents were here illegally? As was stated in the OP, the mom was picked up and deported while attending her scheduled immigration meeting. People who have immigration proceedings pending have temporary legal status in this country, pending the outcome of their case. But this administration has decided to simply pre-empt some such cases and deport without further investigation, because they have artificial arrest and deportation quotas to meet. |
