This is what I've spent my Christmas break doing...getting rid of all the stuff I no longer need and organizing my office/craft room. I went through all of my scrapbooking/crafting supplies that I hadn't used in years and sold all of it. I had a crazy thought to put on a scrapbooking/crafting garage sale the Saturday before Christmas. Not sure what I was thinking but I did sell all of the stuff & made some money to spend on my closet. I used elfa from The Container Store to re-do my closet and desk area. I'm so pleased with how it's all turned out. I also purchased the chrome wire shelving from Lowe's and repurposed a Pottery Barn table I bought over 15 years ago from another room. I sure hope it works for me because I'm tired...hahaha!!

Wow...it looks great!!
The top of my to do list is to sell or donate my excess supplies & tools. I separated it from my working stash and this weekend I am going to start sorting it and taking pics so I can post them in FB garage sale groups.

It looks amazing!!!! I'm want to finish mine too (started last year but never finished). I'm planning on using Elfa as well. Did you install yourself or have Container Store do it? Did you decide ahead of time what to buy/design the layout? I'm worried I'll design it and then it won't work for me and will be hard to change. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this. My closet is horrible currently! Terrible use of space

I put my stuff on CL and FB and sold some but not much. I had 2 ladies come and buy everything so I feel fortunate to make some money back. You will feel so much better once all the clutter is gone. It's made finding things as well as organizing my stuff so much easier!!

My closet is horrible currently! Terrible use of space Alissa, I installed both the closet and wall unit myself. The closest Container Store is 2 hours away so it would be very costly to have someone do the install. To be honest, even if I lived in the same city as a Container Store, I would still install it myself. It's not very hard but it does take some time. I had an idea of what I wanted but the designers at the store are so experienced and creative that I went with her suggestions. She listened to what I wanted and then she would give me suggestions as to how to make the space more efficient. For instance, in the closet, I hadn't thought to put drawers down the middle of bottom half. I'm so happy with them and glad she made the suggestion. Good luck and I'd love to see pictures once your closet is done.

I love it and I also need to do this. I need some shelves in my closet to organize everything. I also need to purge but still really like what I have and can see myself using it so not sure about actually purging much right now.

I love it!! you were BUSY!! I have a 6-foot wide bank of Elfa shelves in my craft room, and I love them. I've had that set of shelves (the vertical rails and shelves) for smething like 12 years now (?) and everywhere we've lived, they've been the centerpiece of my craft room. (I'm one of those people who needs to SEE things in order to use them, so the shelves work very well for me.) I have mostly 12 in. wide shelves, I think, with one row of a deeper shelf for larger boxes, and one row of narrower for displaying small things right above the table. I have them going all the way up to the ceiling, too, so I can use as much vertical wall space as possible. (and I also have a small footstool to get up there, lol!)

Do you take your elfa with you when you've moved from house to house? I wondered if this is considered built ins and would stay with a house if it was ever sold. I probably wouldn't take it especially the closet because it's sized for that space. In the closet I chose 16" shelves except for the very bottom one which is 20" deep and the top shelf, which you can't see, & that's 12" deep.

I love it!!! You did an awesome job!
I have 3 boxes of stuff waiting for our next scrapbooking garage sale!! I can't wait to get rid of the stuff that I love but just can't find time to use. It's just so overwhelming having too much stuff sitting around!

It looks, organized, relaxing, and like you can really enjoy your time in there. I promised my husband that I would get rid of 50% of my craft room!!! We have a tiny house and need to make room for our first baby. I plan to start this weekend.

That looks great. I agree, it is a good feeling. I was laid off when the company I worked for shut down in August. I have been on an organizational frenzy. I'm not one to keep things, but I got rid of a lot of stuff. I think my motivation was cleaning out my mother's house when I sold it. I say nothing makes you want to clean out your house more than having cleaned out someone else's. I also bought a "macdaddy" shredder and have been shredding like crazy.

I updated my scrap room last November when my husband put in wood floors. I feel like fifty percent of what I do is organize and make things fit into smaller things. I will never be truly organized in that room. The rest of my house organization starts May 23rd. I have calendar that has 365 days of organization. You clean/organize for 15 minutes a day. I can do that.

Awesome job, looks GREAT! I've been itching to go through my stuff for so long it's not even funny. It's all been packed up forever and I don't even have a clue what I have anymore. I'm sure I'll find some long lost treasures as well as some things that will make me say "What the heck was I thinking?" DH told me yesterday that the cabinet guy told him my counters are in (!!), I think he's waiting for the two additional cabinets I added to the plan to come in the week of the 12th to bring them over. Some friends of mine do a huge sale twice a year so my goal is to go through as much as I can before the sale so I can move it out and maybe get a little money back out of it. The nice thing about their sale is that anything I really don't want to drag home, I can leave there as a donation for their annual fundraiser crop and take the tax deduction so it's a win-win all the way around!

Well, you've inspired me to get moving. I actually went to The Container Store today and looked around and talked to a super nice designer in the Elfa dept. They have a 30% off sale going right now, so I'm going to take advantage! DH is going to help me measure tonight and I'm going to make some notes to what I already started last year. I do want to paint the closet first so I also need to think what color I want in my scrappy space. Hmm... I also want to find a desk to paint to use as my new scrappy work desk. I want to paint it a fun color. My current one is awesome but way too big for the room. It was great in our old house, but this room is a lot smaller in our new house. I'll post pics when I get it finished!

I just knew they were going to be slammed with customers like me who were waiting for the 30% off sale. I can't wait to see how your room turns out...

Always, my friend. I'm always in that mode. As it is, I need to work on my second Alex unit. I have a few drawers in there that are empty and need to be filled with things that has been just kinda of "stuffed" into a little carry case I have.

I am feeling much more optimistic because I will probably retire at fifty this May. It doesn't hurt that my oldest has moved out (for now) and hubby is really good at cleaning the house. I just need to toss out a lot of stuff. So while I may not be truly organized, I will have less junk. Right now I am dreaming of a house binder(s) that has all important information in it. Now that is just ridiculous.

I told my husband that I wanted a closet update from The Container Store for our anniversary. It is an hour away, but we could easily install it. By we, I mean my husband.

It looks so organised! And useful! I bought a new table to house my Cricut but I didn't measure first so it's far too big for the space. I am determined to make it work somehow!

'Do you take your elfa with you when you've moved from house to house? I wondered if this is considered built ins and would stay with a house if it was ever sold.'
yes, I've always taken them with when we move... but I've never had closet built-ins, I only had the shelves on the wall. Since they're removable, I figured they're more like a bookcase than an actual 'built-in' per se, and my realtor never said anything about having to leave it. I do seem to remember packing up my entire craft room when we put the second house up for sale, though, so I don't think they were even up then.
