This is an interesting discussion I saw on Threads.
You are going away for 14 days. How many pairs of underwear do you take?
The answers were wild! It was amazing how different everyone was.
My answer: 16. One for every day and a couple of extra pairs just in case.
So what is your answer?

Usually way too many. I am an over packer! I just got back from an 11-day stay but had washer and dryer available. Still took 10 pairā¦

I usually pack two a day if going someplace warm or where Iāll be hiking. A little less if I donāt expect to shower a second time. I like fresh undies after a shower. But if I were to go for 14 days, Iād expect to do laundry halfway through. So 14, doing laundry.

I live in fear of running out of underwear. I wear the cotton Hanes or Fruit of the Loom ones that come in multi packs, so they are pretty cheap.

The real question is, how many old pairs do you bring to throw away during your trip?
I often bring old underwear and pajamas on some trips to throw away so I have more room in my luggage for souvenirs!
(Most of the pjs have pinprick holes or stains, so while they are not "indecent" in case I have to evacuate in the middle of the night, they are not in a suitable condition to donate. )

Yes, Iāve thrown away old underwear and old clothes on trips! But to answer the OP, I bring 1-2 extra on a trip.

16, probably. Like another pea, one for each day and a couple more "just in case "

If I had as going for 14 days I would want the option to do laundry. I wouldnāt want to bri g 14 days worth of outfits. Iād pack clothes for 7. But, I would bring extra undiesā¦probably 10 pairs.

Then one hotel they stayed in the house keeper kept taking them out of the trash can and putting on the bed so they didn't get thrown out. That was a hoot.

In my pre-menopause life I'd take 2 extra just in case an unscheduled hormonal balance wrecked havoc on Aunt Flo's visitation.

The real question is, how many old pairs do you bring to throw away during your trip? Cool idea! I scuttle wire hangers on trips. Start out with clothing on them to whip out and hang immediately upon arrival. Then once worn, the closthes go back sans hangers. Never thought of scuttling underwear LOL. For trips longer than a week, I tend to pack a week's worth of clothing, including underwear, planning on laundry somewhere along the line. I take more than 7 outfits, though, to allow for different activities, maybe a couple of extra pair of underwear.

2-4 extra depending on how many days and planned activities.
Never thought to bring old and toss!

I would probably take 14 pairs for 14 days, because they'd all fit in one packing cube anyway. I have some that are very quick-dry so I would plan to wash them in the sink after the first week, sooner if it was hot and I took a shower and changed after sightseeing all day.

For 14 days regular temperature, I would pack 16. One for each day, and two spares. I would also do a bathroom sink washing and hang dry, because these days.....between menopausal warm flashes, hot flashes, hot summer months....I am changing underwear up to 3-4 times a day. Fresh pair in the morning and fresh pair at bedtime, and if needed >> a fresh pair after a hot flash.....plus after running errands in hot climate, because it results in gross and sweaty. I hate when my underwear is damp. I've keep two pairs of panties in baggies, in my purse....in case I need to change them while at work. I feel so disheveled, unkempt, and gross.....if I keep on "hot flash >> been gross and sweaty" panties. I'm a high maintenance panty wearer.

For 14 days, between 10 and 14. Iād expect to have to wash sometime in that time frame. For a shorter trip (day a week) Iād go with 8. For a longer trip (back to Oz for a month or more) still around 8-10, as I know Iād be doing laundry each week.

I always take way more than I need, but for a two-week vacation I'd plan on washing stuff at least twice. No way I'm lugging around 14 days' worth of underwear OR clothes. Eight is probably about right.

Depends if I have laundry access. I don't wash in the sink.
I always take 2-4 extra pairs because I usually get out of sync with showering and changing.

My answer: 16. One for every day and a couple of extra pairs just in case. So what is your answer? My answer depends on whether there will be very convenient self-serve laundry service available--in other words a rental with a washer/dryer right in the rental. Because if I have a washer & dryer to do my own laundry, I'll pack lighter and do laundry. I'm less interested in doing laundry while away if I have to go out of my way to do the laundry, though. And I have no interest in someone else doing my laundry for me. So, if I am NOT doing any laundry while away, then I'm with you--a pair a day and a few extra. (More extra if I'm going to a very hot/humid location and/or if I'll be expecting a period while there.) I know I could pack less and hand wash some every few days, but I don't really want to.

20. Underwear is small and Iām not spending my time at a laundromat while on vacation. I can rewear second layer clothes (pants, t shirts if I didnāt sweat too much) Iām not rewearing underwear. One pair per day plus a few extra. My answer changes to more if I happen to be on my period during the trip.

Underwear is small and can be fit in all the small extra spaces, so I donāt hesitate to bring along extra. I canāt tolerate any level of underwear sweatiness and āwicking underwearā really isnāt an answer either. As much as I like the idea of bringing my old undies and tossing them, in practice Iāve never really liked doing that. I find that ten minutes after putting them on, theyāre uncomfortable for one reason or another and Iām wishing I brought the newer good ones.
The bigger related question is how many bras can you get by with for 14 days? I hate swamp boob even more than swamp ass, and I *HATE* swamp ass!

Eight is probably about right. I wear outerwear several times, though, so I'm not bringing 14 days of clothes- more like 7. I'm fine wearing a clothing item several days without washing them, as long as I didn't get anything on them, and didn't sweat a lot. But underwear? Nope. I need plenty. If I'm living out of a hotel, I'm not doing laundry. If I rent a house, however, I might do a load.

Our trips last between 14-19 days so I overpack. I also use my FoodSaver to pack our bundles of underwear/socks to save space. They get hard as a rock so they can also be used as a weapon if someone attacks us in our room. And yes, we have been known to get rid of old underwear while on trips.

Outer clothing: I learned that I can do just fine with 1 pair of nice slacks (in case we go somewhere that needs dressier clothes)and 3 changes of clothes that are all coordinated and can be mixed up to give a different look.
My trips have been in warmer weather so I am not packing heavy sweaters or coats.
I try to get everything in 1 large suitcase.

But when traveling, I only bring 7 pair and will wash in the sink or laundry/laundramat if available. I've only had to go to a laundromat once--a 10 day trip with DH and all 4 boys when they were young.
