Since the Peas always have great suggestions, I’m wondering what y’all are using for foundation near or around your eyes. I’m in my mid 50’s and am finding the circles around my eyes are standing out more than I’d like. When I put concealer or foundation too close to my eyes usually within a few hours my eyes are tearing up and stinging. I am currently using Tarte foundation, which I believe is ophthalmology tested and technically should be ok around my eyes. As someone who used to generously put foundation all around my eyes, including on my eyelids, I’m finding this change in what my body can tolerate, frustrating. I’ve heard Laura Geller or Bobbi Brown might be good to try. Anybody care to what has worked for them?

I needed more moisturizing (more than normal) and that definitely helped!

I don't put foundation near my eyes. I wear concealer (Hourglass) and set it with the Laura Mercier brightening powder. For foundation, I'm either just wearing a tinted sunscreen or it Cosmetics Celebration Foundation. I tried the Laura Mercier kit but I was underwhelmed.

After trying many concealers and undereye color correctors, I use a drugstore undereye brighter by Milani, and if works well. I moisturize my face and then add undereye moisturizer. I only use the Milani where I need it. Sometimes I use Drmtlgy Luminous Eye Corrector, which I also like. In the summer, I use Tarte Shape Tape, but in the winter, I find it too drying.
When I was younger, I used foundation under my eyes, but now I need a bit more help. I have read a lot about correcting undereye shadows, and most say that less is more, especially if you are older. I find that color correctors work better for me than concealers.

I don’t necessarily put it by my eyes, but I’ve started using Jones Road, which is the line Bobbi Brown started after she sold her original one.
It’s tailored toward aging skin and I love it. It’s SUPER moisturizing, which is fantastic for me since my skin is extremely dry and dehydrated, but some people do complain that it’s oily, so keep that in mind.
I use her WTF (foundation) and Miracle Balms, as well as the face pencils when I need a bit more coverage.

I use a very light application of IT Cosmetics CC Cream to my entire face including the eye area. It doesn't bother me but it sounds like your eyes are much ore sensitive. I also use a Lancôme under eye moisturizer/brightener (Bienfait MultiVital) but I think it's been discontinued. I will have to find a replacement when I use the last of it.
Your thread may be helpful to others of us as well. Let's hope you get more good suggestions. The peas are always really helpful with searches like this.

I gave up makeup shortly after the pandemic and it is so freeing! But on the rare occasion Ive wanted to cover dark circles, nothing looks right!

Depending on how bad my eyes look or where I am going that day, I either just bring my foundation up under my eyes (not all the way to the lash line) by swiping my foundation brush there at the end of application, or I use concealer. My favorite concealer is from Il Makiage. I also use eye cream first and sometimes I use the laura mercier under eye powder or just my regular powder (again, just wiping the brush on my eyes at the end, so a very small amount). I do sometimes have issues with my eyes burning but I think it is more likely that it is because of the sunscreen I use and it gets in my eyes when I rub them.

Lately I've been using Typology's concealer and I like it. Less/lighter seems to be better these days and this is very light.
I like the Laura Geller mineral products and use them, but I also have and use a tinted sunscreen moisurizer (brand escapes me at the moment) or, for more coverage, the Typology tinted serum (like a very light foundation).
I wonder, though, if the tearing and stinging you're experience is sunscreen related. Are you using a foundation with sunscreen in it? I know I have to be careful with that around my eyes because it does sting.

I like Bobbi Brown around my eyes - but I don’t get super close, like on my eyelids…. I also like the Becca under eye brightener.
I also wonder if your stinging is due to sunscreen.

I wish this was the case, but I don’t put sunscreen on separately. Maybe I should be. 🤷🏼♀️ I might be wrong on this, but figured the sunscreen in the foundation was enough. I live in the PNW and am hardly ever out in the sun for a few different reasons, I burn, bugs love me and I have allergies. This might be the reason why my eyes are burning and stinging, my allergies. A few of you brought up putting moisturizer on first, before the foundation. I definitely will try this. I used to do this, but stopped awhile ago. I don’t remember why I stopped. It may be that I ran out, meant to pick some up and never did. Thank you for those who have responded! You all have great ideas. As I knew you would. 😊❤️

The last I tried was Bobbi Brown but it looked worse than nothing at all because it makes all the lines show up. I really don't notice my dark circles as much as I used to. The older I get the less makeup I wear - eyebrow pencil, mascara, tinted primer (but no foundation), blush, and lipstick or tinted lip balm. That's it. Less is more.

I have very sensitive eyes and did not wear eye makeup, because of this, for many years. Where did we get our information before the internet ? 😳 Magazines, tv ? Anyway, now I only use Almay and Neutrogena near my eyes and it works great for me. I also use Lumify eye drops which really clear up my eyes.

Agree that it may very well be the sunscreen that's *in* your foundation that is causing the irritation. I don't put foundation or regular moisturizer near my eyes for that reason, as both my daily moisturizer and my foundation contain sunscreen. I've always had fairly dark under-eye circles so I generally have *always* used an under-eye concealer. In the last 10 years or so I've added an eye gel moisturizer ( Neutrogena) under the concealer, and I recently switched my regular concealer (Benefit Boing) to a non-creasing one ( Benefit Cakeless Boing). ETA: BTW - it's Ulta 40% off sale time.

I like the regular one. I tried the moisturizing version but I didn't like it and I can't remember why now. The last larger tube I bought has lasted me over a year now but I only use it when I go out - about 3 days a week.

I will say I skimmed most of the answers here and this may have been mentioned. As we age, the skin under our eyes dry out. Putting anything, concealer like, will normally and usually cake and just look bad after a few hours. I watch a MUA on TT and she is over a certain age so not one of those young things. She talks about some under eye balm to put on before you put on concealer. AND NEVER powder the area under your eyes.
I do put on several layers of skin care and moisture moisture moisture is the key. My foundation does get close to my eyes and then I put on ELF Hydrating Camo concealer. I have noticed that sometimes my eyes will sting and water. I don't think it is the concealer. As some have said upthread, I think it is most likely either the foundation, that has sunscreen in it, or the ELF Whoa Glow sunscreen. Some mornings I just get in there and my brush is flying.

I use Thrive Causemetics. It's only available via the website. My eyes are extremely sensitive and I don't tolerate any eye makeup, but their makeup is the least of the evils. There foundation does a good job covering up stuff. I used to love the original Bare Minerals, but they sold and changed their formula and then it was back to square one.

I use a Becca concealer as a color corrector, then layer Tower 28 concealer in the right color over it. It gets rid of my natural dark circles really well. I don’t put the foundation that close to my eyes. The concealers don’t have sunscreen in them.

Sunblock can do that if I'm not careful. For concealer, try Drmtlgy luminous eye corrector. It does have spf, but it doesn't sting my eyes. I also use an eye balm called Roc multi correction that helps brighten the area.

See, the Peas do know everything! I never even considered the sunscreen “in” my foundation!! Thank you to those who suggested it and clarified it for me. I use a moisturizer with sunscreen, but don’t apply it around my eyes. For that, I use a specific moisturizer for eyes and don’t have an issue with tearing. But if I sweat too much, my eyes will start stinging.

Is that the only makeup you’re wearing near your eyes? I’ve recently developed an eye allergy and I think mascara is the culprit. One day I had a full histamine reaction—my eyes and throat were burning and my sinuses filled up. Within 2 hours after washing off my makeup I felt fine. I was surprised when Google told me makeup can cause this and it can happen suddenly, even when using makeup you’ve used for years.
I threw out all of my old eye makeup and switched to Clinique, but I’m still having mild symptoms. I’m still experimenting, but very close to giving up on eye makeup.

I look like Vampirella without concealer. I moisturize, add Elf primer from the drugstore, then apply three tiny dots of Bobbi Brown concealer on the bone under each eye. I feather it upwards with a brush or sponge. Then I apply tinted moisturizer by Clinique, avoiding the eye area. Yes, it’s more moisturizer, but I like the texture better than foundation.
I use cheap mascara because I throw it away every month. I’ve heard it gets germy if you keep it longer.
