Good morning! Not much on the radar today. I am hoping to keep my nose to the grindstone and get all my financials done today. I believe it is long overdue for a mental health day. My plan is to get up as usual and go feed the pup I am sitting and then head out of town for a Trader Joe's, Costco and good lunch outing. Then home to plop in the pool. Well, I need to air up the bottom ring again and see if it's a me problem or a pool problem that it leaked out. I got the backyard cut last night in the 103 degree summer balminess. I didn't check in yesterday and just as well. I had another girl dinner last night. Garlic toast with marinara sauce on it. And cheese. rymeswithpurple I am so sorry to hear that your DH did not get the job he wanted. Just know there is another, most likely better, one out there. Dinner tonight will most likely be the last of the pasta salad. I may make up some chickpea chick-un salad. I'm not sure about that.

It's a grey and gloomy, cold day here today ... a good day to hibernate! It's supposed to rain on and off all day ... I need to run one errand this afternoon but that is all I have planned ... Oh, and someone is finally coming to buy the Jeep floor mats I have for sale on FB Marketplace! I'm not sure about dinner ... it might be rechauffe pizza from last night ... ![]()

naby64, your mental health day sounds great, except for the Costco part. When are you going to take it? leannec, I hope that you enjoy your quiet day.

Good morning! I have to return 3 items to Costco this morning ~ clothing is always a crapshoot but the bargains can't be denied! We're going to go to that new favorite rib place we found 3 weeks ago. This time we'll eat half and bring the other half home for lunch tomorrow.

When are you going to take it Tomorrow! Fridays are normally a half day for me so it's not like I am taking that much time away but it's the thought.

Just checking in before I leave town for another 4-day crop. Yes, this is practically the sum total of my social life. OK, not the entire sum total. I’ll be seeing the gentleman friend, too. Dinners and all meals will be out for the next few days. See you all next week. rymeswithpurple, I’m sorry to hear about DH not getting the job. Job hunting sucks, but the right one will come along eventually.

I have to share something I got myself. I made a shirt for DH last Father's day with the two dogs on it. I somehow ended up throwing it away when I was cleaning out drawers. When this popped up, I had to order. As I drive a Subaru, I think you ought to have fun with your car. This is me and my 2 dopey dogs. It is a rather uncanny resemblance to those 2. A slightly better photo so you can see the pups better. You pick the breed or the closest to your breed for the creation. The one in the front seat is a catahoula husky mix. The back seat pup is a mutt. We think Mountain Cur with pit mix. But the Plott hound on the site was a dead on ringer for her.

We're going out to dinner or doing takeout for ods. I feel like you've been a very lucky lady to be having some extra time with your son this summer. I believe it is long overdue for a mental health day. Amen. Take it. You deserve a two week vacation, so don't even feel guilty about one day off. I had another girl dinner last night. Garlic toast with marinara sauce on it. And cheese. I ended up having a girl dinner last night too. I found a recipe that makes exactly one 35 g of protein bagel. I made one. And then spread it with smashed avocado and pepitas. It's supposed to rain on and off all day ... It is gray and gloomy here and it looks like it's going to rain, but it hasn't. And I'm debating whether I should water the garden. So I'm going to family dinner tonight and I want you to tell me if I'm off base. I'll accept it if I am. But my mom says, we're having tacos and nachoes for dinner. And I said, there will be beans right? And she says no. And my sister pipes up and says, you can buy a can of refried beans. And I said refried beans are often not vegan. I was just talking about a can of black beans or pintos. And my mom is like I wasn't planning on it. So I said to her, I'll cook them myself. And my sister I know can sense I'm getting irritated and she says, my family loves beans so we look forward to tasting your beans, Becki. So I just shut up. And then yesterday my mom sends a photo to the group and it's a can of Bush's black beans. And she says, is this what you want? And all I said was yes. My sister called me last night about my birthday party on Saturday. She's working very hard to put together vegan food. She had a couple of questions. I told her that I was so blown away that she would go out of her way to respect my dietary choices. I said I didn't expect that and I really appreciate it. And she said, it's a party for you and no one is going to die if they eat vegan mayonnaise. I was like not everybody is as accommodating. She says, Mom? I was like, yeah. Anyway, maybe I'm being oversensitive but it just doesn't seem outrageous to think my mom's inviting me for dinner, warm and season a can of beans, does it?

jeremysgirl, your mom is off base. She refuses to accept your vegan diet. She is in her own head and out of touch w/your needs. Same mom different day. That your sister is going out of her way to make your birthday special, including vegan dishes is very thoughtful.

Beans are not a big ask to have present at taco/nacho night. Loads of people eat beans with that meal. (I buy either vegetarian or fat free refried beans, but you are right, they dont say vegan. Brb, off to read a can and see why they arent vegan)

Im back lol The fat free ones contain pinto beans, water, and salt. La Preferida brand. I dont have vegetarian ones on hand.
And of course someone should be arranging for there to be vegan food at a vegan person's party!!
DH has been having issues golfing this year and he thinks it is his shoes. The ones he has are not firm so he thinks his foot is slipping in them. So, we are off to Golf Galaxy and then Longhorn for dinner- it is in the same parking lot

It was a chopped Italian salad from Wegmans. scrapmaven where are you cruising to? rymeswithpurple sorry your husband didn’t get the job. Hopefully there’s a better one out there.

I found a recipe that makes exactly one 35 g of protein bagel Is it the one that you use AP flour along with Vital Wheat Gluten? If so, I have made it several times. They are so good. I sprinkle them heavily with Everything but the Bagel seasoning. Yummy!!

The fat free ones won't because there is no such thing as fat free lard lol and the La Preferida Vegetarian do not have it either because it is a meat-derived fat.

Happy Thursday!
Glad this week is almost over!
I took my dad to a doctor appointment this morning then out to breakfast. My co-worker and boss are out of town so it's going to be a light rest of the week.
Mom is back to not wanting to eat much. She's lost so much weight and is basically subsisting on protein shakes. She hates the food at the home on good days but she is on a special soft diet and hates it. We talked with the hospice nurse and we are going to switch her back to regular food. At this stage, it's just keeping her happy and if she does end up with pneumonia, they will treat her. She's declining more and more after a great visit with DS last week. My dad is having a hard time with it as you would imagine.
I didn't end up making my korean beef last night so I probably will tonight since I bought all of the ingredients. I just ended up making homemade pizza.
Hope you all have a great day!

naby64, lucyg, and christine58 Thank you all. ❤️ He wrote to the person he would've been reporting to today to ask for some feedback. The email he got with the decision was very non-descript (and from a do not reply email via HR). He also has some concerns I won't go into on here, but we'll be interested to see how they respond. Apart from that whole mess, same old same old here. He did apply for a different job last night. Not one he would really want per se since it would be a lateral move, but who's to say that couldn't lead to something better in the future, right?

**GypsyGirl**, how are you feeling? I hope that you are doing better today. Hanging in there. My ears decided to get involved last night - they were hurting when I swallowed and itching where you can't scratch it. Woke up at 4 am this morning and took some more cold medicine. Then I went online and booked myself an early appointment at the Same Day Clinic with my medical practice. They did a strep test and it was negative. Consensus is that I just have a bad summer cold. At least the fever has been gone for almost 24 hours. Would love to take a nap later today but I don't see that happening because it is housekeeper day so I'll be in bed early tonight. Today is going to be another sloth day, although a put together sloth as I had to go out this morning! The only things I would like to accomplish is the small bit of ironing I have to do and more needlepoint. Also need to start pulling together my supplies for the one day retreat on Saturday. Dinner will be another round of soup, flavor TBD.

Well, I saw something at Costco I've never seen anywhere in my life: fresh chicken paws! A woman standing by the case told me her mom makes bone broth from them. They should call them feet because paws sounds too much like a dog! Anyone ever buy these?

a bit of a lazy day. I may go to the thrift store. dh biked off to the post office and beyond, so I vacuumed and mopped while the dog was gone with him.
when I had a son in hong kong, we all had chicken feet as part of the dim sum meal after his birth (we took the whole office staff out to lunch..as the custom).. there was something lucky about the chicken feet. I did not partake.
we are going out to dinner.. and our friend said he was free tonight so he is coming along with us. I decided that I probably shouldn't work out every day.. but every other day.
I think I will have salad with chicken tonight
