Lyrics that speak to you

If a song is going to really affect me, it's generally because it makes me cry for one reason or another.

I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day: (These lyrics have been rough the last several years. To make them more poignant, the version I tend to listen to is Karen Carpenter.)

This song was on the radio while I was making numerous trips to specialists during a difficult pregnancy with my son, and it had me in tears every time:

Two songs we sing at choir each have single lines that make my eyes leak every time. They’re both popular songs I hear often, but it’s actually singing them that gets to me.

A Thousand Years (Cristina Perri) - “I have died every day waiting for you”

Shallow (Lady Gaga) -  “And in the bad times, I fear myself”

Jelly Roll: I am not okay. I like all the lyrics from that song.

The song speaks to me >> No matter how crazy life is, I am going to be okay. 

I need to listen to the whole song. A friend recently sent me just a clip from it because my best friend died two weeks ago and she knows how hard it has been for me.

When I was getting a divorce the song I Will Survive was very meaningful to me. It would come on the radio when I was in the car and I would sing along a the top of my lungs.

In 1985, Dan Fogelberg released his High Country Snows album and it included the song The Higher You Climb.   Simple lyrics, but they really touched me and put into words how I have chosen to live my life.
