This was on Reddit but I thought it would be a good question for the peas.
Name a line (or lines) of music that really get to you.
A couple of mine:
Jimmy Buffet: Yes, I am a pirate, two hundred years too late
The cannons don't thunder, there's nothin' to plunder
I'm an over-forty victim of fate
Gotye: Now you're just somebody that I used to know
Pink Floyd: When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse Out of the corner of my eye, but it was gone I cannot put my finger on it now The child is grown, the dream is gone
Anyone have any lyrics that really hit you in the feels?

If a song is going to really affect me, it's generally because it makes me cry for one reason or another.
Fleetwood Mac:
Well, I've been afraid of changing 'Cause I've built my life around you. But time makes you bolder. Even children get older And I'm getting older, too.
I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day: (These lyrics have been rough the last several years. To make them more poignant, the version I tend to listen to is Karen Carpenter.)
And in despair I bowed my head: “There is no peace on earth,” I said, “For hate is strong, and mocks the song Of peace on earth, good will to men.”
This song was on the radio while I was making numerous trips to specialists during a difficult pregnancy with my son, and it had me in tears every time:
A New Day Has Come:
I was waiting for so long For a miracle to come Everyone told me to be strong Hold on and don't shed a tear Through the darkness and good times I knew I'd make it through And the world thought I had it all But I was waiting for you

Esther's favorite song was Falling Down by Lil Peep. I have the first two lines tattooed on my arm:
Rain keeps falling Tears keep falling
It's funny because I am constantly asking people about their tattoos. And this is right on my forearm and I seriously never get asked about it. It is surrounded by cosmos which are the birth flower for October.
The song The Night We Met by Lord Huron tugs at my heart in relation to Esther too. She was born at night and it was a very easy birth and no one bothered us because it was night time. But my husband had to go home and take care of Chloe. So it was just the two of us and of course I was running on adrenaline. So we stayed up all night together alone on that first night. But this song also plays on my feelings about her mental illness and her slowly detaching from me and the world.
I had all and then most of you Some and now none of you Take me back to the night we met I don't know what I'm supposed to do Haunted by the ghost of you Oh, take me back to the night we met

"It's funny because I am constantly asking people about their tattoos. And this is right on my forearm and I seriously never get asked about it. It is surrounded by cosmos which are the birth flower for October." People often get tattoos after a significant event. People without tattoos don't understand this and don't ask.

Barbra Streisand from the film Yentl, in the song A piece of sky:
It all began, the day I found From my window I could only see A piece of sky I stepped outside and looked around I never dreamed it was so wide Or even half as high ….. What’s wrong with wanting more? If you can fly then soar, With all there is, why settle for Just a piece of sky

From Townes Van Zandt’s song To Live is to Fly:
We all got holes to fill Them holes are all that's real. Some fall on you like a storm, Sometimes you dig your own. The choice is yours to make, Time is yours to take Some dive into the sea, Some toil upon the stone. To live is to fly Low and high, So shake the dust off of your wings And the sleep out of your eyes Shake the dust off of your wings And the tears out of your eyes.

It's not having what you want. It's wanting what you've got.

Garth Brooks didn't write this one, but he sang it
"Heaven's not beyond the clouds; it's just beyond the fear."
Dpm't remember the artist's name, but from Biscuits
"Mend your own fences and own your own crazy."

Every since I lost my daughter when she was 23yrs this song has made me tear up.
Helen Reddy – You And Me Against The World Lyrics
And when one of us is gone And one of us is left to carry on Then remembering will have to do Our memories alone will get us through Think about the days of me and you You and me against the world
I love you, mommy I love you too, baby

I am a music fanatic so I have many lyrics that have a lot of meaning to me. I’ll just share a couple.
Hoobastank-Disappear There’s a pain that sleeps inside, It sleeps with just one eye.
And Jellyroll-I am Not Okay
I was abused physically as a child and in my first marriage so I learned to sleep with one eye open so to speak. My now DH made all those feelings Disappear. ❤️ It’s been a long process but I’m healing and I will be okay eventually. The first one will be tattooed on me soon.

Two songs we sing at choir each have single lines that make my eyes leak every time. They’re both popular songs I hear often, but it’s actually singing them that gets to me.
A Thousand Years (Cristina Perri) - “I have died every day waiting for you”
Shallow (Lady Gaga) - “And in the bad times, I fear myself”

Mine are from Believer by Imagine Dragons:
[Verse 1] First things first, I'ma say all the words inside my head I'm fired up and tired of the way that things have been, oh-ooh The way that things have been, oh-ooh
[Verse 2] Second things second, don't you tell me what you think that I could be I'm the one at the sail, I'm the master of my sea, oh-ooh The master of my sea, oh-ooh
I lost myself during my late DH's long cancer battle. As I came out of it, I'd hear this song all the time. I have been through 2 years of therapy to get myself back.

Bubbles Up by Jimmy Buffet
When your compass is spinnin' And you're lost on the way Like a leaf in the wind, friend Hear me when I say
Bubbles up They will point you towards home No matter how deep or how far you roam They will show you the surface, the plot and the purpose So, when the journey gets long Just know that you are loved There is light up above And the joy is always enough Bubbles up
And my next tat will be bubbles. Trying to decide on adding the words Bubbles Up or not.

I like these lyrics from Ed Sheeran's Visiting Hours. It gives me comfort when I think of those who we've lost.
And I will close the door, but I will open up my heart
And everyone I love will know exactly who you are
'Cause this is not goodbye, it is just 'til we meet again
So much has changed since you've been away

Way way too many to post. Many from Jimmy Buffett.
Oh La La - Rod Stewart
I wish that I knew what I know now When I was younger I wish that I knew what I know now When I was stronger
The Eagles
Take it to the Limit: You can spend all your time making money You can spend all your love making time
The entire lyrics to the last resort
She came from Providence, the one in Rhode Island Where the old world shadows hang heavy in the air She packed her hopes and dreams like a refugee Just as her father came across the sea
She heard about a place people were smilin' They spoke about the red man's way, and how they loved the land And they came from everywhere to the Great Divide Seeking a place to stand or a place to hide
Down in the crowded bars, out for a good time, Can't wait to tell you all, what it's like up there And they called it paradise I don't know why Somebody laid the mountains low while the town got high
Then the chilly winds blew down Across the desert through the canyons of the coast, to the Malibu Where the pretty people play, hungry for power to light their neon way and give them things to do
Some rich men came and raped the land, Nobody caught 'em Put up a bunch of ugly boxes, and Jesus, people bought 'em And they called it paradise The place to be They watched the hazy sun, sinking in the sea
You can leave it all behind and sail to Lahaina just like the missionaries did, so many years ago They even brought a neon sign: "Jesus is coming" Brought the white man's burden down Brought the white man's reign
Who will provide the grand design? What is yours and what is mine? 'Cause there is no more new frontier We have got to make it here
We satisfy our endless needs and justify our bloody deeds, in the name of destiny and the name of God
And you can see them there, On Sunday morning They stand up and sing about what it's like up there They call it paradise I don't know why You call someplace paradise, kiss it goodbye
from John Prine
That’s the way that the world goes round
That's the way that the world goes 'round. You're up one day and the next you're down. It's half an inch of water and you think you're gonna drown. That's the way that the world goes 'round.
I was sitting in the bathtub counting my toes, when the radiator broke, water all froze. I got stuck in the ice without my clothes, naked as the eyes of a clown. I was crying ice cubes hoping I'd croak, when the sun come through the window, the ice all broke. I stood up and laughed thought it was a joke That's the way that the world goes 'round.

🎶Life is a journey Not a destination There are no mistakes Just chances we've taken Lay down your regrets cause all we have is now🎶
🎶Looking for a reason Roaming through the night to find My place in this world🎶
🎶'Cause all of me loves all of you Love your curves and all your edges All your perfect imperfections Give your all to me, I'll give my all to you You're my end and my beginning Even when I lose, I'm winning🎶

Oh my gosh, I forgot about that one. That hits me hard. A Thousand Years (Cristina Perri) - “I have died every day waiting for you” I can't even listen to this song anymore. I used to love this song during my last relationship when I was in love and thought I finally met the one. Nope. Now it breaks my heart. It is so pretty- I wish I could listen to it without feeling a gut punch. I also love Cristina Perri's Human. It also really gets to me: But I'm only human And I bleed when I fall down I'm only human And I crash and I break down Your words in my head, knives in my heart You build me up and then I fall apart 'Cause I'm only human

It's a sad song but I am always reminded of one of my relatives when I hear Ships that Don't Come in by Joe Diffie
We talked of roads untraveled We talked of love untrue Of strings that come unraveled We were kings and kindred fools And just when I'd hit bottom That old man raised his glass Said at least we've had our chances There's those who never have
So here's to all the soldiers Who have ever died in vain The insane locked up in themselves And the homeless down on Main To those who stand on empty shores And spit against the wind And those who wait forever For ships that don't come in

“The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald” by Gordon Lightfoot.
When suppertime came, the old cook came on deck sayin'. Fellas, it's too rough to feed ya. At Seven P.M. a main hatchway caved in, he said Fellas, it's been good t'know ya The captain wired in he had water comin' in And the good ship and crew was in peril. And later that night when his lights went outta sight Came the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.
Does any one know where the love of God goes When the waves turn the minutes to hours? The searchers all say they'd have made Whitefish Bay If they'd put fifteen more miles behind her. They might have split up or they might have capsized; May have broke deep and took water. And all that remains is the faces and the names Of the wives and the sons and the daughters.
Lake Huron rolls, Superior sings In the rooms of her ice-water mansion. Old Michigan steams like a young man's dreams; The islands and bays are for sportsmen. And farther below Lake Ontario Takes in what Lake Erie can send her, And the iron boats go as the mariners all know With the Gales of November remembered.
In a musty old hall in Detroit they prayed, In the Maritime Sailors' Cathedral. The church bell chimed till it rang twenty-nine times For each man on the Edmund Fitzgerald. The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down Of the big lake they call 'Gitche Gumee'. Superior, they said, never gives up her dead When the gales of November come early!

In 1985, Dan Fogelberg released his High Country Snows album and it included the song The Higher You Climb. Simple lyrics, but they really touched me and put into words how I have chosen to live my life.
"The higher you climb The more that you see The more that you see The less that you know The less that you know The more that you yearn The more that you yearn The higher you climb
The farther you reach The more that you touch The more that you touch The fuller you feel The fuller you feel The less that you need The less that you need The farther you reach"
