We're moving into our new house next week! I honestly never thought we'd get here, it's been over a year since we first saw the house and thought renovating it would be fun. Reader, it has not been fun. I have never been so stressed in my whole life, I've been covered in paint, plaster, stabiliser, general dirt. I've cried and had many tantrums, my relationship with my husband has been strained to the point of breaking. I've made a million decisions, some of which I regret but they're minor things in the grand scheme of having a lovely new home. There are still jobs to do but they can be done when we live there. I can not wait to get everything unpacked and organised (my favourite thing) and just be 'at home'.

Congratulations!!! There's nothing quite like going through a huge renovation, but in most cases it is so worth it in the end! Wishing you many years of happiness and lovely memories made in your new home!

Congratulations! Having lived through my parents restoring a century home (in Canada that is an old home lol) while living in the house - I can say I totally get it!
Enjoy setting up your new house!

Congratulations. Renovating a house is a real marriage test. My husband can visualize what something will look like so he can picture what the final result will look like. I cannot see the final result in my head like that. I need to go to the store, take measurements, touch things, move things around and change my mind. A lot. It is stressful making decisions for your house you cannot just undo. Enjoy moving into and taking over all the spaces in your new home.

Congratulations! Been there, done that, too, although only part of a house, not the whole thing. Part of the house was bad enough - you deserve a million gold stars for doing a whole house. Enjoy your new home!

Dear Writer, so sorry for all of the hassles! It will be wonderful. We moved in and then did the renovations. It was also awful!

He can picture it, I cannot. It frustrates him to no end. The visualization is so easy for him. I also agree about the marriage test. Renovating together is not for the faint of heart, lol. We are in our 3rd house in almost 27 years of marriage. The first 2 houses were fixer-uppers that we renovated while living there, with 1 kitchen gut job in each both while pregnant, almost all cosmetic, the 3rd was a new build. We foolishly thought we wouldn't have much to do in the new house besides paint, wrong! But we have made it through it all together (so far). Enjoy your new home! You have worked hard for it!!

So this was the worst day of the whole renovation, we were meant to be installing French doors from the living room into the dining area/kitchen. The whole wall collapsed so now the downstairs is open plan. I can smile about it now but at the time it was terrible. I think this was the moment I started asking myself and everybody else WTF have we done.
