with a pretty good (for me) balance on it. I used it to order something from a smallish company a while back. Would that company be able to give me the info I entered when I ordered from them? Or am I out of luck?

Do you have a receipt from them? Maybe the card number is on the receipt. Or, did you order online? Maybe the card number is still stored on their website.
But, how old is the card? I know that in most states (but supposedly not in California) the balance on those VISA cards goes down every month that you don't use it.

Maybe the card number is still stored on their website. You can see part of the number when I look at my order, part of it is blacked out. I used it in April or May.

I’m going to assume you’re out of luck. The amount of encryption and privacy stuff probably means they can’t pull it. That sucks and I’m sorry it got tossed out!

Not all Visa cards have monthly fees or sweep your balance after a certain period…that’s true for all states, not just California. I manage several websites that sell gift cards and none of ours take funds off your card.
Not sure if the small company can help you, never hurts to ask. Do you know who/where the gift card was purchased? If it was one of our sites, we could find it with that info.

I emailed the company last night, but haven't heard back.

Is it possible you registered it with the Visa company (like Vanilla whatever that is)?

You can’t register a Vanilla gift card.

I’m guessing you’re probably out of luck. Most retailers aren’t allowed to store full account information and these days I’m sure most don’t even collect it because usually it goes through a third party for processing.
