As we start heading back to school- what's your preservice PD look like this year?
In the past we've had Dave Stewart, Alice Keeler, Solution Tree, County people talking MTSS, Kagan, the list goes on and I can't remember all I've had for the last 26 years.
This year, we have intros, awards for years of service, "activities" (last year they were "games" that were olympics themed and the schools competed against each other), and then lunch and get to go work at our sites/site staff meeting. The next day is work at sites. Kids come the day after.

We go back for PD on August 4th. We have had alot of administrative change this year so we haven't gotten the dreaded back to school email yet.
Some years it's speakers, but we usually do games/activities sprinkled in and one day with our Fine Arts peers from across the district. Luckily my campus has always been really good avout giving us time in our rooms and on our own - its the first school that I have been at that gives us as much time as possible to do what we actually need rather than what they think we need.

We go back the 6th, kids come the following Wednesday. First day will be building admin going over stuff and a few ice breakers “to get us up and moving”. We have 1 afternoon that is a district rally. 1/2 the district goes in the pm, 1/2 in am. The superintendent will speak. Few others go over accomplishments. We’ll have a few hours to work in our rooms, 1 hour to go over grade level team stuff then lots more admin time. Hopefully we’ll have some time to plan with our subject areas.

This year it’s me looking at me and asking myself, what can I do to better engage and teach the kids who come to my lessons? And I look through materials and make some notes, and seek out further ideas from my online community if needed.
I love having PD that is actually PD instead of a performative waste of time.
[ETA: if I was still teaching at school, I'd have to go back on August 4th and the kids return August 12th. Pre-service is even more awful than it used to be under the state-appointed superintendent. Lots of flogging about following the teaching scripts exactly.]

We go back in a week. I probably won’t get the schedule until the day we go back. My principal is pretty laid back and will give us lots of work time in our classrooms. We have 10 days of preservice, so there is a lot of time to get it all done.

We have to go back two days before the kids do. So I go back August 18th and the kids come on the 20th. Way later than most of you, it seems. We have a 3 hour meeting on Monday, which is basically going over the rules and what we are doing this year. Then we have the afternoon where we are supposed to watch all of the videos on bloodborne pathogens, sexual harassment, FERPA, etc. I don't watch them because they aren't due until December 1st and I'd rather spend the time working on my room and lesson plans. Which is why I'm very busy Thanksgiving week. On Tuesday they aren't allowed to have a meeting. The whole day is for the teacher to get ready for the kids to come on Wednesday. So I'm really lucky because so many of you have to go back so much earlier than the kids and have to do so much bull crap. We have professional development 3 times a year- once at the end of each quarter.

Y'all are making me hyperventilate with these early-August returns! Our kids start in Sept, so our icebreaker/post-its nonsense starts in late August. We've had some administrative changes, so I'll be interested to see what the PD turns out to be this year.
