We are in a hotel for a basketball tournament. It’s 11:00 and we have an 8:00 game. The people above us seem to have kids running around and jumping constantly. I called the front desk a few minutes ago and they said they would call them. The jumping stopped for about a minute and is now happening again full force. I have ear plugs in but still can’t sleep. I’m getting really irritated. It doesn’t seem out of line to me for people to expect to be quiet at this time of night, but what do the peas think? And shouldn’t these kids be going to sleep??

They obviously are but also, when you're staying at a tournament hotel, it happens every time. So you're NTA but maybe should have anticipated noise would be likely. I'm sorry! Hope you get some sleep.

Oh I remember those day when my kids played hockey. Ugh and no, you are not TA! 😄

Don’t those kids have to go to bed also for their game tomorrow?? I don’t understand how people are unaware of how running and jumping noises travel in a hotel. But, I grew up in an apartment, so my parents made us keep the noise down.

Hotel guests often seem oblivious to how their noise can affect other guests - just because you're up and leaving at 6am doesn't mean others aren't looking forward to a lie-in so please don't slam your door when you leave the room!
But I digress....I can completely agree that you shouldn't be disturbed by kids at the time of night, I hope the staff follow up and contact them again. As to whether they should be in bed? I would have them in bed if they were mine but it's their call I guess.

I would lose my mind. I am a terribly light sleeper and I might start banging on the ceiling.

That’s really frustrating and inconsiderate of them. In your place, I would have kept calling the front desk if it was after 11. That is a reasonable quiet hour.

I would have called the front desk again. Regardless of age, they are being rude.

Hope you get some sleep. This isn’t a tournament hotel from what I can tell. Only one other person from our team is here. But we are at Wisconsin dells. At a non-water park hotel.

They definitely are and I would have called the front desk another time if need be.

Not! I just don't think people realize how loud it is in the room below. By 11 pm I'd have complained, too.

Once we were in a hotel with a group of teens on a field trip or ?? Anyway they were in our hall making lots of noise. I finally opened my door and told them to quieten down. To their credit, they left and it was quiet enough to sleep.

I would keep calling and if it really got bad or lasted all night long, even asked to switch to another room.

I don’t think you’re the asshole, but I do think it’s just sort of LIFE. At a hotel, there are often people being inconsiderate and making lots of noise at odd hours. I can’t tell you how often I’ve had to listen to other people having sex at 2:00 am.

Yes, this. Someone might be getting in at 1am and need to sleep in. You might be getting up at 6am and would appreciate the night owls being quiet as they come in. I always sushed my DH and kids when we were in a hotel hallway, didn't slam the doors. Wouldn't have let my little kids be crazy at early or late hours. I trained DDs well enough that now when they are with their boyfriends or friends they comment how loud they are.

We stayed as a team a lot. My bet is the parents are at the hotel bar amd the kids are in the room.
Keep calling. 11 pm is late enough for jumping. If it was just loud talking or laughing, I'd give then until later.

And I'm sure that may have been the case here---right up until the point where someone from the front desk went and spoke to them. But then after that, when they went right back to making all the noise, that's when they won the prize for who the "Who was the a$$hole?" contest for me.

I would hope that parents would stop the running and jumping for good if they were there, but who knows I guess.

You’re NTA here. People in hotels in general can be pretty obnoxious, especially the ones who are out living their best life getting stupid drunk and loud, or the ones who let their kids run wild at all hours of the day and night. I would keep calling until someone attended to it and made them stop.
Someone on our lake’s Facebook page posted about someone else’s loud music late at night and asked respectfully if it could be turned down. Whoever was doing it must have got wind of the post because they actually turned it UP. What a dick.
