i received a new laptop for Christmas. Yay. I want to set it up for editing but I've never had a Mac before. What are you using?

I use Lightroom for the more complicated stuff, but for simple, everyday editing, iPhoto does the trick. It's quick and easy to use.

How much do you want to spend? sort of just kidding. Most programs are available for either mac or pc.. I use Adobe's Photoshop/Creative Suite. I have the pc platform at home and used the mac platform at school. Other than a few keyboard shortcuts that are different between the two it was the same program on both systems. Lightroom is the same.. you can get it for pc or mac.

I realize that you can get the same software. My PC software is outdated and I'm not yet sure of the workflow for the new Mac. I could just get Lightroom or Photoshop Element. I'll have to think about this

I use Lightroom for editing RAW photos that I take with my DSLR and I use iPhoto from the everyday shots that I take with my iPhone. I need to do something to organize it better. I also imported all my digital scrapbooking files into iPhoto when I first got my Mac. I'm not sure if that was a good move or not. I had so many photos from the last 15 years of digital cameras that I had to make 3 iPhoto Libraries. I have one library just for digital scrapbooking, one library for home related photos (we built our home and I collected a lot of photos for ideas pre-Pinterest and of our home build) and one library for everything else. But that main iPhoto library is still very large and it gets slow. Especially when I import any RAW files into there. I wish iPhoto was easier to switch libraries. You can not be in 2 libraries at the same time. That's a pain when I want to digital scrap and I want to look at my digital elements and I'm in my Digital Elements library, and then I want to import my photos. You have to exit one library and re-open.
Before I had a Mac, I used Picasa. I tried to resist iPhoto for awhile and stick with Picasa for the Mac, but it just didn't seem like it was going to work as well. That was 3 years ago, so I'm not sure what it's like now. It's just such a PITA to reimport all these photos. I fear the day I need to switch from iPhoto.

I use Photoshop Elements. I also use Lightroom but not as often because I'm not as familiar with the program.
