I thought that the White House Historical Association would need to approve the ballroom that Trump is paying for. Is that true? Did they fall for his madness? What has happened to checks and balances?

Just like Mexico paid for the wall! To screen 650 people plus outside staff they will have to start at least a day ahead and staff etc might have to spend the night..?? Think of that many people wandering around the on the WH lawn that close to the WH. How will anyone be sure that they have all left by morning. Oh and will they have to build new kitchens to accommodate the necessary kitchen staff?? Oh and 650 using bathrooms....?? A whole new sewer system....

Congress needs to pass a law that no president can alter the White House or its grounds beyond decorative changes without Congressional approval. Between this and paving over Jackie's rose garden, he's turning one of our most recognizable national monuments into a convention center. I suppose it will be named the Trump Ballroom and will have a gold marquee with his name outside. *gag* And regardless of whether he claims that he and his supporters are paying for it, he's well known for stiffing contractors when it suits him. Would not be at all surprised if he waltzes away and leaves the taxpayers holding the bill.

I havent been able to bring myself to look at the plans. The inappropriateness timing of this with his supposed government reduction and cuts to USAID is gross - no matter who pays for it. Will it be a gift from the UAE? Maybe thanks from his crypto tech bros or Israel?
If I allow myself to look at the proposed building and what it will do to the grounds I might weep. How people continue to support an oligarch wanna be is beyond me.

Did you have the same concerns when Biden hosted a state dinner for the president of Kenya that had 500 guests plus numerous entertainers? Well I don’t have concerns on how many it will hold…and didn’t when Biden hosted a dinner either. Obviously White House staff knows what it can accommodate. I do have concerns on such a large change to the White House and Grounds without Congressional approval or at least a pretend discussion (as we know this Congress just goes along with what Trump wants). The Flag poles, paving over of the Rose Garden and all the gold crap added to the White House…not fond of the Rose Garden makeover but I will admit that it will be better for those in heels, but I would not have voted to change it if I had a vote on it. The flag poles are fine. Gives Trump something to brag about as he obviously finds that important. All the gold crap can be fixed later. I do have concerns with spending 200 million (no matter if donated or tax payer money) to, IMO, unneeded rennovations at a time that we are SUPPOSEDLY in a government financial crisis so BIG that it requires nothing but executive orders and enactments of obscure rarely used policies and laws for Trump to single handedly determine WE the PEOPLE’s path. This going against everything that the Constitution stands for. If we are in that big of a financial crisis use that money for the good of the USA not some big fancy ballroom that you think will be one of your legacy’s. Also don’t spend time and government resources on refitting a questionable gift of a plane that we don’t need. Such disconnect on what he says he is trying to do and what he does when he wants it. And on top of all of that, if you are going to waste over 200 million on things that are certainly not needed, I don’t want to hear another word about firing Powell for ostentatious renovations during such financial times to the Federal reserve. Holy hell.

I would have concerns today though regardless who hosted such a large party at the WH! We are living in a different world today.

This was my thought too, by adding a new structure that big to the White House you presumably want to accommodate many more people than the current facilities can handle. And with that, it would reason the security risks would increase exponentially too. Why would someone who supposedly already had two assassination attempts even consider something like this? I would think that because it’s designated a historically significant building, major changes wouldn’t even be a consideration. Everything FF touches dies.

I suppose next he'll want to build a parking garage next to the ballroom. Aren't there rules about altering historically significant places? Like in my city, if you buy a house on the historical register, there are rules about what you can and can't do to it. Trump is making big changes to a historically significant place, and he doesn't even own it. We do.

I guess because it is not attached to the WH? Who knows? He does whatever he chooses. The checks are all in his pockets...... What I read, is that it is an new wing on the White House, so it is attached. Renderings show a massive building standing in place of the current East Wing, which serves as office space for the first lady and her staff, and connected to the main White House by an enclosed walkway.

HCR speculates that it seems Trump isn’t planning to go anywhere if he wants to build this big ballroom “with donor money.”

I googled around to read about where this ballroom was going. Thought I'd read the official White House website information about it. And I found two typos. hahahaha

So ... they're going to demolish the East Wing to put up the equivalent of a Hyatt ballroom? That is what it seems to be. Wow. I thought it was a new building just connected to the White House and the east wing was just going to be closed during the construction. Obviously I haven’t paid enough attention to the plans. But again the plans do not matter at this point, it is the whole making large scale changes to our White House (not Trump’s) without any oversight, public opinion, or Congressional input.

East wing has the first lady office. Think I heard they will move the offices to the second floor or something....
CNN just said objections are escalating. I didn't hear exactly what they were talking about .
