I love the things you find and post. Always interesting!
We get dust devils up north, too. Usually before the crops start to pop up. They are fascinating to watch.

I grew up on the border in TX. We had them ALL the time. The worst was being a kid on the playground, they'd come through and you'd get sandblasted.

They are for sure in New Mexico too. I was a craft vendor in Lincoln for Old Lincoln Days in August 2019 when a dust devil went over Dr. Woods house, took out my fellow vendors canopy in front of me and then destroyed mine... Everyone else was fine, just took out our two popup canopies.

I see them often during harvest. Especially the hot dry days in September. Some are tiny, some are huge! Usually full of dust and corn leaves. Once in a while it goes right on me, and that is nasty. I can usually move my truck if I feel like it is going to go right into me.
We are having an exceptionally wet summer here. I am more concerned about how often I am going to need to be pulled out of the field, due to mud, instead of dust devils this year! Nothing says fun like starting out your day with a log chain on the floor of the truck, because "you're probably going to need this today"! I remember one year, in a particularly wet field, I just chained up to a tractor and he drug me through the field alongside the chopper. Not the entire field, but there was some wet holes. We mostly have those tiled out now. I am pretty good at not getting stuck - but when I am stuck, it's stuck good.

I'm in the delta of the south. I see dust devils over the crop lands at certain points in the farming process. As a matter of fact, on the way home yesterday from the NE part of the state, I saw 2, maybe 3. I almost stop the car and watch them at times.
