Hi everyone! Letting you know that my mum is doing really well! Molly and I visited her last evening and she was almost her regular self ... talked and talked and talked! . There is still a bit of confusion but not much ... Thank you all for the support! I plan to hang out at home today and do little to nothing ... still dealing with my depression but I think I am starting to snap out of it! Looking forward to watching this week's episode of Project Runway! This is what I posted on Facebook today ... I LOVE being at home! Dinner will probably be a chicken burger with lettuce and mayo How is your mum Tearisci? What are your plans today? What is on your menu tonight? Have a great Saturday everybody!

I'm glad to hear your mother's speech wasn't affected leannec especially if she really likes to talk. I like to be home too. I'm content on my own quite a bit. But I have to stay busy. Speaking of busy, I was up at 4 today. But 6 I was roasting garlic for some garlic rosemary (my garden) bread. It came out ugly but delicious. I'll be having that with a white bean spread, pickled onions, some kind of leafy green and roasted acorn squash slices for dinner tonight. And probably lunch tomorrow. I also have beans in the crockpot and I made two pots of rice because Jeremy kids are coming for chicken fried rice tomorrow. Now I'm finishing up my laundry. And I'm debating getting my sewing machine out and quilting my mystery quilt. I may just read. But I'm getting tired and I'm afraid I'll fall asleep. But I guess it's really no big deal if I do. Jeremy's out golfing.

I am so happy that your mum is doing well leannec ! We walked this morning really early but we didn't get up as early as jeremysgirl ! I did go to Costco and it was a breeze. I got gas and was in and out of the store in about 15 minutes. I would like to be a home body today because we are going to my friend's summer pool party and it will be over 100°. Usually it's just kids in the pool but DH and I are taking our bathing suits. If nothing else, I will sit on the side and put my feet in. I made pralines to take and I bought some boiled shrimp so I'll put those in my Tupperware divided server with some watermelon/strawberries in several of the slots. DH made a great suggestion of putting several cool packs in the base as ice would melt really quickly. So dinner will be whatever the host is grilling. Usually chicken, maybe ribs, hamburgers and hot dogs.

Good Morning. leannec , I'm so happy that your mom is doing so much better and that your depression is lifting. Tearisci , how are you and your family doing? jeremysgirl , whatever you decide to do enjoy your weekend.
We're having a heatwave and have yet, another power outage. We're being told that power will be restored by early afternoon, but I doubt it. We have the worst power company in the history of worst power companies. As I was lamenting the fact that I couldn't open up the fridge to get my creamer for my 2nd cup of coffee It occurred to me that I can't even make my 2nd cup of coffee. I might sit at a puzzle or just continue pouting about missing my coffee. It's my choice. Dinner will be takeout. I was gonna go to Target and Sprouts, but I can't get my garage door open. Ok, I'll shut up and stop whining. Can someone pass me a cup of coffee? Enjoy your day and may it be relaxing, fun and restorative.

Heaven gained an angel today. She passed peacefully this morning when our pastor and friends had gathered around her. it couldn't have been more perfect.
It hasn't fully hit me yet but I feel at peace now that she is at peace.
I'm very worried for my dad, who isn't handling this well. He'll going to need extra love.
Thank all of you for your thoughts and prayers over these past few months. We've really needed them.

There was a power outage near us last night ~ about 3000 homes were affected but thankfully we weren't. I was gonna go to Target and Sprouts, but I can't get my garage door open. If Mr. Maven is home, you can just pull the cord and manually open the garage door.

Tearisci, my heart is just breaking for you. I'm so very sorry for the loss of your mom. Your family will grieve and heal together. I know that you're worried about your dad. Just be his soft place to land. His children will be his solace. We're here to listen and offer (((((HUGS)))).

Tearisci: My thoughts and prayers to you and your family. I feel like the whole gang has been on this journey with you. Know that the journey isn’t over and we are still here. The grandboys are playing in their season end tournaments this weekend. I went to a game last night and again this morning. One is playing now but I bailed to get into some air conditioning. I might go to the next game or wait until the games tomorrow. DH is preparing our driveway to apply sealer. He’s been out in the sun and heat for brief periods of time all morning. He’s making me crazy! There is no reason why this has to be done during the hottest days of the summer but he won’t listen. Gotta get it done… Supper will be rechauffe steak for me and grilled sausages for DH.

taylortroop ~~ It's very hot here, on this side of the province.

There is no reason why this has to be done during the hottest days of the summer but he won’t listen. Gotta get it done…*^^^ This sounds like most men when they have a *bug to get it done*. Stay inside and enjoy the a/c. I like to be home too. I'm content on my own quite a bit leannec ~~~~ I like to be at home as well. My condo is the perfect size and I love the way the rooms are arranged. I've made it cozy and am very glad that I don't have to share the remote control anymore. Since my building is older, I am having the vertical shades replaced. They're about 20+ years old and time for a change. The windows are large and horizontal blinds won't work, so I will go with vertical. It occurred to me that I can't even make my 2nd cup of coffee. If you have access to a heat source (gas stove or bbq), you could boil the water and use a pour over method of making coffee. Heaven gained an angel today. So very sorry for the loss of your mom. This is a difficult time and I'm sending positive thoughts for your family. I'm going to have Chinese tonight for dinner. My knee is getting better every day and the scar is fading. Very stiff in the morning so I doubt that I will ever do a marathon. Years ago I did do a half marathon and won 1st place. There is a heat wave outside so I'm staying inside with the A/C on. I signed up for 3 free months of Apple TV so that is my entertainment. Any shows or movies that a pea could suggest for me to watch. I binged on The Morning Show and have started to watch Sugar. ![]() ![]()

I’m another who is very content at home. Probably too much for my own good at times. Tearisci sending hugs and love. I’m so sorry for your loss. Give your dad an extra hug for me. Dinner here will be the chicken wings ds didn’t cook last night along with our first corn chowder of the summer made with fresh local corn. I stopped and picked up two dozen ears earlier. I will be freezing lots of it in the next month or so. We also have a cauliflower that needs to be cooked soon.

Thank you for the good suggestion. Dh suggested that, too. If you haven't watched, I strongly suggest both Ted Lasso and Shrinking on Apple TV.

I am totally looking for that book pantsonfire! I'll see if my library has it. In other news, I have had this book for nearly two months now and the library finally told me I need to bring it back and give someone else a turn. So I ordered a copy for myself and it arrived today. Thank you for recommending this one too.

Tearisci I am so sorry to hear of your mother's passing but glad it was peaceful. I wish I could give you and your dad a hug. Be sure to take care of yourself as you are taking care of your dad. leannec that is such great news about your mom. scrapmaven I'm not sure there is much worse than a power outage. We are very fortunate that it rarely happens to us. The concert last night was great. Getting home not so much. We were at the same venue last weekend and parked in almost the same exact spot yet last night they had a whole different traffic pattern and it was a nightmare. We got home at 1:30 this morning. Needless to say, I slept in and it has been a slow day so far. I thought I would go visit my parents today but neither one is answering their phone. Who knows what they are up to. DH met with his siblings the other night. They decided they would help their dad get on the waiting list for one of the cottages that is run by the nursing home where MIL is. FIL can walk over to see her in good weather. We all think this will be much better for him. He is not ready to sell their house. Baby steps. I am fixing steaks and corn on the cob for dinner. We are about out of the fresh corn season around here.

hugs for tearisci!!! I hope the family can find peace. we went to idaho falls.. had a great dinner out (dh had fish tacos, I had sauced chicken breast and salad).. then we went to weird al concert. easy parking, not big crowds (though sold out).. got a hawaiian shirt. the opening act was Puddles pity party.. it was musical, art performance, weird and very engaging. I knew nothing about him and it was fun. weird al was just outstanding. he did everything from my balongia to I'm happy. one I hadn't heard before was "quit forwarding that crap to me".. lots of costumes, audience participation. my dh loved it too. this morning we went out to breakfast and the portion size was about 3 breakfast sizes on one plate!! was good though. We stopped at the department of Energy ENR-1 site.. and took a tour. it was the site of the first nuclear power plant that made electricity in 1951. really interesting.. the small reactor, and the systems used to build it.also had the first mechanical arms ever used. we. made a correction suggestion to their presentations and exhibits.. they listed only seaborg as the winner of the nobel prize for finding plutonium.. in reality, Edwin Mcmillan also won the nobel.. he shared that prize for discovering plutonium.. his son was my dh's college roommate and we are good friends with all the mcmillan kids. we knew Ed and his wife too pretty obscure but a great stop. all free. we skipped going to Craters of the Moon national monument for the next trip. so tomorrow is a packing day. I have no idea about dinner. at all once again. we decided to eat out of the fridge.. so salad at least. ![]()

Do you have ready access to shwarma joints where you live?

Life Changing Salads by Danielle Brown that sounds good - I'll have to look for it and the one jeremysgirl just bought Dinner here is being made by DD18 - she decided on Beijing Beef and stirfried green beans over rice. It's a new recipe and I hope it goes smoothly - it looks a little complex (nothing hard but lots of ingredients and steps)

Tearisci, my heart hurts for you. And your dad and the rest of the family. Take care of yourself, too, while you’re taking care of dad. leannec, happy for the much better news about your mom. Hope she makes a 100% recovery. ntsf, my son loves Weird Al and has attended his concerts? appearances? too. littlemama, we don’t have shawarma that I know of in my little town, but there’s lots in the Bay Area, including fairly nearby. scrapmaven, sorry about your power (and coffee) situation this AM. Hope the power is back on by now. Sister is coming over to watch TV (I mean, it’s Saturday night, what else would we do?) I guess we’ll have taco salad … there’s lots left of all the makings.

We have some shwarma joints here in Lansing littlemama. lucyg my night is not much more exciting. 😂 Jeremy decided to double up and play two 18 hole rounds today. So he won't be home for another hour or two. ntsf I think weird al would be a blast to see. This morning I made a loaf of roasted garlic rosemary bread. For dinner I sliced and toasted the bread. Layered it with a white bean spread. Sauted onions until they were soft and then sprinkled them with some Cabernet vinegar. I sliced and roasted the acorn squash I harvested from my garden this week. And then layered it on the sandwich. Then a sprinkling of salad greens.
