Good Morning.
Sending all of the get-the-job vibes to rymeswithpurple's husband. I hope you have 2 jobs from which to choose.
leannec, how is your mom doing today? Do they have an estimate of how long she'll be in the hospital? Will she need rehab afterwards?
karenlou, I'm thinking of your sweet doggie and hope that everything goes well.
Today is a quiet day and I'm fine w/that. I'll work on my puzzle and rest.
Dinner is tacos and I'm going to make bruschetta with our fresh tomatoes. Ya, it's an odd combo, but dh really wants it.
What are you up to today?
What's on your menu?
Wishing everyone a gentle, calm and happy day!

Happy Tuesday!
It's a slow day today which is good and bad. I'd like to be busier to keep my mind occupied.
Last night, my dad took us out to dinner and ordered my mom's drink: a tall glass of iced tea with another full glass of ice (that woman LOVED her ice), and then we toasted to mom. It was very sweet.
I feel the same way he does: glad/sad. It's a whole mix of emotions. Glad that she's rid of her failing body and mind and sad because we miss her. 2025 was not a kind year to her and I'm glad she's no longer suffering. I think that is my main feeling right now. I'm also glad because my sister and niece cleaned out her room at the nursing home so I don't need to go back there. I think that would be really triggering.
I'm taking my dad to lunch today and then some relatives are bringing in dinner tonight. BBQ I think.
Hope you all have a great day!

Sending all of the get-the-job vibes to rymeswithpurple's husband. I hope you have 2 jobs from which to choose. I hope so too! Hopefully soon rymeswithpurple will be off to new adventures. Hoping leannec's mom is healing. And I am also hoping karenlou's pup is feeling better. scrapmaven, bruschetta sounds really good. I ought to make some myself. I have all sorts of garden tomatoes. I'm ready to rip the cucumbers out. They are burning up because of this darn heat. I'm going to plant carrots there in a few weeks for my fall garden. I'll be planting kale too. I am having the world's slowest day at work today. Like it's dead. Like dead, dead, dead. I'm going to step out in a minute for lunch and go to the library. I have books to return and one was due yesterday. I have one meeting today at 1:30 too. But it should be super short. The budget for that area is just a wee little thing. So not much to discuss. Hmm...now I want bruschetta. I need to clip my basil and make pesto too. Maybe I'll do that later. I think I'm just going to heat and eat some veggie dumplings. And then I'll get some tofu marinating for tomorrow. Maybe ill even make the salad tonight so I have some for lunch tomorrow.

Good morning! A quiet Tuesday for me here. My DIL is coming over tonight to grab a couple of things to take back with her. She was supposed to come over last night and it got changed to tonight. Dinner, at this point, is going to be the crispy black bean tacos I planned on last night. I ended up have rechauffe last night with some hot water cornbread. Almost like a hushpuppy and went great with my made up pasta/sausage dish. Here is the crispy black bean taco if anyone is interested. So the "one thing" I did last night was wrestle my duvet into it's new cover. It is an Ikea cover and a non Ikea duvet. The non Ikea duvet and the old Amazon cover had the proper corners. So a quick tie in made for an easy off, wash, and back on. Last night was truly a work out. I even checked my watch to see if a workout was automatically detected. It was not. Obviously, I was being dramatic or so my watch said. I don't know what my "one thing" will be tonight. Maybe blow off the patio and pavers.

we survived our long drive yesterday. it went really well.. except there was a crash of a semi truck near truckee CA (at tahoe mountain pass) that held tesla car batteries. it crashed at 7 :30 am.. and we crawled past it at 3 pm.. and the jam was over an hour long. dh even let. me drive for a few hours.
left at 5:30 am pct and arrived at 6:45 pm pct. now a week crammed with stuff. tonight we are going to the baseball game--they have been losing a lot so I don't have much hope. then tomorrow night going to grateful dead imax movie, then thursday night, seeing taj mahal.
dinner is whatever at the ball park.
thinking about rymneswith purple.. my daughter in law is in "talent aquisition".. and helped get a multimillion dollar contract for her firm. she is in miami this week and yesterday alone, her team made over 150 job offers. I was surprised. best of luck!!!

The walnut, mushroom and black bean mixture...does it compare to ground beef?

does it compare to ground beef I don't know. I have not made this one before. She just came out with the video and recipe. It seems I did do a variation of a "taco meat" that used walnuts and I was not impressed. With this one having black beans also mashed in there, it might impress me more.

Tearisci , what are some things that you wanted to do, but had to put aside this past year? Perhaps it's time to get into a hobby or take some trips. What do you want to do just for yourself? naby64 , I was thinking about your move and I think it's a great idea. You always enjoy the time w/your kids. Why not move closer and have more fun and also have people to hang out w/that you really enjoy? jeremysgirl , bruschetta is largely healthy and has so much flavor. When I make it for dh, I have to make extra batches for my neighbors, too. From my memory, slow work days are so hard, cause the clock just ticks. I hope that you'll find some good books at the library that will keep you going.
ntsf, you have one job tonight and one job only. Make sure they win!!!!! Welcome back.

Sometimes mushrooms seasoned right can give off a meaty flavor, if not texture.

I was gonna tag individuals, but just gonna say a big broad thank you all! He should be on a break right now, so I'm not sure if he'll come to where I am for a small snack or stay where he is. Both of us felt sort of crummy this morning, but I think that was a result of not really having dinner and a long day on the road. However, some breakfast and Advil helped him, and I got an iced tea and apple fritter thingy at the coffee shop near campus since I can never eat super early. It's a cute little place.
We'll be headed home in around an hour and a half (his last meeting is supposed to conclude at 1:30, but that boy likes to run his mouth, so we'll see what happens).
And if anyone needs my address for bruschetta sending purposes, I'm happy to oblige. Our campus tour (she let me tag along with them) was with the registrar, and she said that they're trying to get into homesteading and had a lot of basil. Everything sounded delicious.

Sad that he was no longer here, but glad that his suffering was over. He hadn’t had much joy over the last two months of his life. He hated relying on people for things we didn’t do his celebration of life until the summer because then Covid hit. We were going to do it in May but there was no way we could do that. So much of my time was spent helping him and my mom which I did gladly. And then after he died, I didn’t have anything to do. But it gets better, the grief never goes away. You just learn how to take care of yourself. My mom and I have become much closer, although we were really close but now we’re even closer. I honestly don’t know what I’ll do when something happens to her.

Grief is definitely weird. I think DH mourned the loss of his mother prior to her death, but then there was a time a few weeks ago when he was really frustrated when he didn't get a job offer and he just flat out told me, "I miss my mom." Me too, honey, me too. She was only 58. We were 29 when she passed away. I know he wishes he could call her and get her awful life advice, but she always just let him complain and was happy for a chance to chat with him since we lived ~4 hours away.
I know his sister took her death much harder since she decided to temporarily live with them for the month or so before and a few weeks after their mom passed. I'm sure it's got to be tough for her since she now has 2 little ones their mom never got to meet.

The same way that I believe that my dad saw five great grandchildren before they joined us

I took my dad to lunch so he could get out of my sister's house. He just stares at the TV while she's working. My BIL is around sometimes but he's not super social. My dad had a late breakfast and I had to be home by 1 for a delivery so he ended up just getting coffee while I ate. My sister had to go to the funeral home to sign papers and get the cremation process started. That is bothering both he and I. We know she's not 'here' but even though they are both being cremated, it's not a nice thought. My other sister has started working on the slide show and I'll link the song we're leaning toward. Of course, I can't get through it without crying as I pick out the pictures. Grief comes in waves for sure. Goodness of God

Hi all ~ I did a load of laundry then ran errands for a few hours. Bought a new pair of aqua shoes so I need to try those on. While I was out, I stopped at the spa which is connected to our Athletic Club to book an appointment for a massage. DH is going on an overnight golfing event later in the month so I decided to book an 80-minute tranquility massage for while he's gone. Of course both of my favorite massage therapists are booked for both days so I booked it for the day before he leaves. Dinner will be Horseradish Meat Loaf. Sending hugs to all the tribe. You're so vain you probably think this sign is about you!

Of course my mom needed different groceries than we could get at the market yesterday so I took her to the grocery store and the drug store today. It’s sooo hot today that I was drenched when I got home just from getting in and out of the car, hauling groceries to her apartment, etc.
I’m going out for supper with my bestie tonight. She wants to go for a walk after supper but we are supposed to get a bad storm so not sure about that.
I booked a pedicure for tomorrow. The last two times, I’ve had a girl with at least 4 inch nails (not kidding!!) so my pedicure and although it was entertaining, I’m not sure I got the best service. When I called this time, I asked for someone different.
Tomorrow is our wedding anniversary! It’s 37 years of wedded bliss. We will be going out for supper.

Waving hello from my floatie! We are in a heat wave/drought so been busy just staying cool in the lake. Me and my waterproof kobo are spending lots of time together. Good luck to your DH @rhymeswithpurple, thinking of Tearisci during these tough days and wishing leannec mom a speedy recovery and hope that karenlou puppy is doing better. It’s been so hot we aren’t really doing much other than enjoy the lake but today I Took my almost 17 year old cat to the vet with some digestive issues. She’s lost 2 pounds since last year’s visit and is dehydrated so they gave her some fluids and now waiting on the results of blood and urine samples. She is our cuddly, loveable cat but she HATES other people, and especially people who want to poke and prod her so we give her a bit of gabapentin before appointments so she is chill enough for them to not have to use those big leather gloves.

leannec, how is your mom doing today? Do they have an estimate of how long she'll be in the hospital? Will she need rehab afterwards? OK, the woman called me at freaking 5 am today! She wanted to talk ... I told her I was sleeping (at last) and to call me in two hours! I guess she was bored ... no apology ... whatever ... She is doing better everyday ... they are getting her to move around the room ... not sure how long she will be in the hospital ... she isn't actually walking yet ... I ran a couple of errands with my teacher friend ... it was nice to be social for once ... I need to water my flowers before they give up the ghost! Dinner is undecided ... as usual ...

I wanna be floating on the lake with Neisey! But I've got my tomatoes marinating and my baguettes in the oven. Because I wanna be like scrapmaven when I grow up. 😀 I talked my garden neighbor friend into bruschetta for dinner too. She gave me romas and I am giving her a loaf of bread. You guys inspire me every single day.

Popping in quickly - (((Hugs))) and prayers for those who need them. Neisey - gorgeous photo rymeswithpurple - best wishes for your dh jeremysgirl - I make taco-flavoured lentils that work well in tacos/burritos/nachos. The recipe calls for beef bouillon but I've made it with veggie broth/stock before (replacing the bouillon cubes and water) and it's fine. Let me know if you want it.
dinner tonight is the sticky onion tart and broccol-apple-walnut salad I was supposed to make last night but we ended up with pancakes instead

leannec, your mom must know that you have terrible insomnia. Perhaps they need to give her a horse tranquilizer at bed time. Nighty night!!!!! Tearisci, the morning that my mom died we flew my father right up to stay w/me. She was buried in our home town and I live close to it. My dad was quite depressed and recovering from his heart attack. I picked him up at the airport mid morning and he asked if we could go out for lunch and then to a movie. He just wanted to do something normal. I totally got it and thought it was very healthy. Doing normal stuff will be good for all of you. I feel so much empathy for your situation and I can relate to what you're enduring. Thank you for honoring us by letting us support you. jeremysgirl, how was your bruschetta? If you're in bed then you can let me know tmw. Dh enjoyed mine. I didn't share w/the neighbors, because my romas weren't ready, yet. Still, dh enjoyed it.
