I am so happy that I will finally be able to do PL with an album size that will work for me. I tried 12x12 but it's just too big. I toyed with the idea of 8.5x11 but it's just not right. I even bought a gorgeous new mint color album and some 8.5x11 coordinating pocket pages. I just couldn't make it work. The other day I read that Studio Calico is coming out with a 9x12 handbook album soon. So I played around with my 12x12 BH PP and cut off the 3" end and it's the perfect size. I'm really excited! I'm not sure I want to invest in the SC album...and I definitely know I don't want to wait. So I cut 3" one of my 12x12 chipboard albums like Marcy Penner did last year and I'm so blissfully happy. So I thought I'd share in case there are others out there that are not sure what they will do in 2015.

that is a great idea! glad you figured out what would work for you... and cutting 3 inches off a 12x12 chipboard album is pretty ingenious! I don't do PL, but that size album sounds like a good alternative to 12x12; I've wanted to do some smaller / rectangular shaped layouts, but for some reason I just don't like the 8.5x11 size- 9x12 may be a good size to try.

Yep, I like the idea of 9x12 too. 12x12 is just too big to store. For 2015 I'm sticking with 6x8 but for 2016 I'll see what the new SC albums look like - or maybe cut one down as you've done.

I used a 6 x 12 album from Hobby Lobby last year. Actually two albums are needed for a full year in my case. I cut down BH page protectors and use Daily Flash, Snap etc. They also sell 6 x 12 page protectors. I think Kelly Purkey jumped on that format for 2015. It is very manageable. The bigger page protectors, give me space to do mini layouts for special occasions or just for fun. the smaller ones are perfect for weeks with little content or photos. I ordered a kit from AE, however, the SC page protectors she was using for AWITL do not fit a traditional 3-binder album. I think she included 8 x 2 page protectors which looked interesting and were used with daily activity sheet.

I'm doing 6x8 this year but running into an issue. I love the size of the pages, but the album seems so HUGE when I open it, like there's too much album space around the pages. Does that make sense? It's making me really unhappy with the look of the book. I think trimming down an album myself would be a good solution.
What kind of chipboard album did you cut down? How did you cut it? Any advice on doing your own trimming?

Some are in the middle at the spine, but some are to the right a little bit making the left side have more space. Bazzill makes a chipboard 3 ring binder in the 9x12 size called Totally Exposed. But I used an American Crafts Modern Album just like Marcy Penner did. Here is her tutorial: 9x12 DIY Album

You can get 9" x 12" albums here, too: A Beautiful Mess. They have a monthly scrapbooking kit, too. I just got my first box this week.

9x12 sounds like a very usable size. But since I've got a bunch of 12x12 albums and pocket pages already, I feel like I should fill them up before switching sizes.
