I bought two small bottles at Homegoods. They were glass and had cork stoppers. Long story short, when the clerk was wrapping up the bottles, I saw one did not have a cork. I mentioned it, and she said, oh it is in the basket, which I had bought too. Got home, and guess what, no cork. Would you call/go back?

Yes.
Is this the new forum's first thread entitled WWTPD?

Me, I wouldn't go back unless they were VERY close by. Even then, maybe not. But I seriously dislike errands that involve returning stuff.

I would certainly call and find out if they can replace it before I drove all the way there. But I'm stingy with my gas. (cause that stuff is expensive!)

I wasn't sure what to title it. WWTRPD? Anyway, I guess I should have looked before I left. Maybe I can shave down a cork to work.

I would call and ask them to mail it if they have it. Depending on the cost and my desire for the cork, how frequently I am in the area, etc, would dictate whether I would return it if the cork remained lost. How difficult is it for you to find a replacement cork? Was there something unique or special about the cork that would make it hard to replace with a random cork?

I think I'd save my receipt and take it along with the bottle into the store. I know it's frustrating, but if you really want/need the bottle to have a cork then do it.

And I think this is my first ever WWTPD/WWTPRD do post .

I think it would depend on what exactly I was going to do with the bottle. Could you maybe use it for a vase or something instead? If I was planning on storing food, scrapbook supplies, or something like that, I would probably call the store and see if they still had the cork or if there were more bottles that I could exchange the one I had for one with a cork.

What a shame you didn't check while you were still there. I've been caught out like that before and now even at Maccas or KFC I will always check to make sure everything is in there.
In your situation I would ring them and explain what happened and ask them to mail it to me so I didn't have to go out of MY way fir THEIR mistake.
Of course there is always the possibility that they will say you must have lost it out of the basket after you left the shop.

If it was convenient I'd go back. Otherwise I'd probably carry the bottle around in the car intending to take it back until I got fed up or forgot all about it.

If it was a special type of cork that I couldn't easily replace with one I had, yes I would go back to the store. If I had a cork that could replace it or if I was going to use it without the cork anyway, then no I wouldn't bother going back. So, what did you do?

I would call and ask them to mail it if they have it. No offense, but NO WAY would I do that. A big store like Homegoods? No way would they be able to match up the right cork for your bottle. Heaven only knows what would show up in your mailbox *IF* they actually sent you anything at all. If I needed the cork for whatever I was using the bottle for, then I would just go back and take care of it in person. If I didn't need the cork, but was just thinking about going back for the principle of the thing, then I would just let it go. Sorry that happened. I do stuff like that all the time.

Even tho" my home goods is huge, they have good c/s and I would still try calling. If it got tossed aside accidentally at the register it might still be hanging around!

That stinks. I would call, and explain the situation so that they could be on the look-out before I got there, because I would be going back. Maybe not that day, but I would be back.

I was able to whittle a cork down to fit the bottle. All is good, and now I will be known as the ex-2P who had the first WWTPD/WWTPRD post! Where's my crown??
