I had a bunch of Mixtiles made using photos of sunsets I have taken. (I take hundreds of them. LOL) I love how they turned out, but I can't decide how to arrange them where I want to put them. Here are some photos of them. They are all 8 by 8. Two things I can't decide. Should I group they so similar color tones are all together. For instance, the ones that are mostly blue/purple/pink and then the ones that are more orange-y. Also, I want to hang them in this hallway. This is the view of the hallway standing in my kitchen. I can't decide if I want to hang them all on the closest wall on the right, but I hate that the heat/AC control is right in the middle of the wall. Or should I put some on that wall, and some on the wall further down the hall on the left? The hall is not as long as what it looks like in the photos, by the way. Thanks for your help!

I like symmetrical, so I would do: On the longer wall, one long row, side by side, all even.... just above the thermostat. On the shorter wall, I would do two vertical rows, three in each vertical row....either side by side or leave maybe a gap in-between the vertical rows. For both, I would do a random assortment of colors. Not grouped together by color. This is my personal preference. Everyone's opinion is going to differ, based on personal preference. ![]()

I need them to be randomly symmetrical, lol, which means there needs to be some balance in colors or shapes but with others added into the group in equal amounts in different places on the walls.
I know you already have them made into mixtiles so this isn't particularly helpful advice, but I would need a variety of sizes in there with different but similar frames and a few outliers in different shapes.
I would look at thrift stores or at art markets/events for pieces that have a similar vibe/color to add just a little quirky something else.
Group by color, is what I'd do with these. I like something that feels random but has a cohesive theme, like color or style.

I think you should hang them all on the wall with the most blank space. I would space them symmetrically rather than hodge podge. I have my Nest thermostat right in the middle of my wall to, so I got a real pretty ornate frame, took the backing and glass out and just placed the frame right over the Nest thermostat so that it looks framed and intentional.
you could also lay them out on the floor in different configurations of the colors until you find one that you like. Or some people take butcher paper and cut out pieces in the shape of the frame and tape them up on the wall in different configurations so that you can move them around and see what you like before you nail them into the wall.

In such situations, I put them on the floor and try arranging them and adjusting until it suits me.
Then use your camera for a photo and you are ready to start hanging them.

Thanks for the ideas so far! I do tend to want to keep colors together, and keep a symmetrical layout which is why I am struggling. LOL I also like the idea of putting a small frame around my temperature control panel.

On the bright side mix tiles are relatively easy to move but it is best if you decide first.
I made a 'square' of mixtiles. I used 9 so 3 x 3 square and they are about 3 inches apart. It looks good. I put the rest in the hallway.
Color, I'm not sure at first I thought randomly mixed but I can see grouping them working also. Maybe arrange them on the floor and take pics to compare layouts.
Your pics are gorgeous!

I would totally keep the similar colours together! You can have your own gorgeous rainbow of sunsets, going from purple to pink to orange to yellow. IMO that would look much nicer and more cohesive than a jumble mix of colours. As for the layout.... I have no idea! That's the thing that is going to stump me too, when I finally get around to printing my Mixtiles.

This is what I was thinking too, I would arrange the colors so they gradually go from one end of the spectrum to the other like a rainbow. As for the placement, I would lay them out on the floor and move them around until I liked the way they looked.

I would also do like colours together so that might determine the hanging pattern - if I had 3 colour groupings I would hope to have equal number of each to make 3 even rows. I would do them on the longest wall and leave a bit of space between each tile.
