He is 15. I know he'll be fine but it makes me sad. He didn't come right out and say he isn't having fun but his texts make it sound that way. He went to a pokemon tournament with his league leader and his leader's son. They went to get something to eat but ds was busy doing a side event. The people who are eliminated the first day get together and do unofficial side tournaments while the top cut players play on so ds stayed behind and now he's all by himself there until they get back. He has a friend there but it sounds like she's ignoring him (they're both at that awkward teen age and they've been "dating" online but they don't see each other much since she lives an hour away-this is the first time seeing each other since the dating started even though they've been friends for years, seeing each other and hanging around together at tournaments). I can't wait until he gets home tomorrow.

Poor kid. Maybe it will turn out in the end. The day isn't over yet.

I didn't know that pokemon was still around. I have 2 sons and they got bored with it a couple of years ago.
Are there other things that he can do at the event?

There are just side tournaments and booths to buy cards. I think he's probably tired too. They went Thursday night and he's probably not sleeping as much or as well as normal. Pokemon is still pretty huge. The one he's at now is the Nationals tournament and he goes to city and state tournaments. There's also a World tournament but it's usually not in the US. Hotels book up quickly once the dates are announced. It's crazy.

My ds is at the same tournament. Pokemon is still big. There are tournaments year round--regionals, nationals, and worlds. Both the card games and the video games tournaments are still well attended. Could you text his league leader and ask how your son is doing? Maybe they could swing by and pick him up or meet him somewhere. Good luck to your son!

Does he have a swim suit with him or money to get one? If his leader and teammate are out of playing could they go to the hotel pool?

His leader did get back but he (the leader) is working the event so ds and his friend should be able to spend time together now. He texted and said he's really tired so I think that's most of it. He did say he's having fun. I'll be happy when he's back home.
He actually does not have a swimsuit that fits and I'm supposed to get one for him before our vacation next month.

update-he had a sore throat for the last couple of days and probably didn't want me to worry. They had his division doing 9 straight rounds without a break (a round can take up to 50 minutes). I'm sure they were able to take bathroom breaks but wouldn't have had time to eat or even get to the machine for a bottle of water. He's still feeling sick so I think he caught a bug and the long hours didn't help.
