In cleaning up my desk tonight, I found no less than 20 pieces of Ledger paper. Some have big spaces between the lines, some small. Some have words printed on them, some have numbers and done are plain. They come in a variety of colors. I always buy them and think "this will make a great background paper!" But it never seems that I have the right piece.
This is not including the myriad of grid paper I have in every imaginable color. And this is just what was sitting on my desk. I didn't even delve into my paper stores.
Why oh why do I keep buying the Ledger paper?
I am challenging myself to use Ledger paper on a page tonight. Anybody else up to the challenge?

I think you are my scrappy twin. I confess I have a large stash of grids and ledger prints, particularly the old MM Ledger papers (so you can all carbon-date me ) bought for backgrounds and for journalling on. I used some a couple of days ago, still have tons. I refuse to feel guilty for hoarding it, I love it, will also keep buying it. I am more successful with what the really talented scrappers call "B-side" prints like these, I am hesitant to mix bolder patterns. Good luck with your challenge, OP and have a great scrappy year.

I just put a bunch of old Scenic Route ones back into my stash from the kit I made for my Dec daily album. And I didn't use any of them in my album. I always think they'll make great background papers but I never see it done any more and there's that little part of my brain that thinks "you'll be uncool" and I always seem to reach for something else. I'm done scrapping for tonight but hopefully I'll have time one night this week to attempt your challenge to actually use some of this paper up.
I hope you'll share your finished layout because I'm pretty sure I'm going to need the inspiration.

Ledger used to be HARD to find! I hoarded it, the MM's stuff (a friend got it for me, it was sold out everywhere) and the Scenic Route Stuff, and the Basic Grey "basics" lines (3 colours, remember?)
I think it was during a very colourful time in scrapbook product (KI memories etc) and we craved some journaling space LOL.
Now, paper lines are far better balanced with some more neutral or tone on tone pps for backgrounds, so my plain ledgers sit moldering!

Another hoarder here, and I'd probably still buy some new. It's like a compulsion. To be fair, I don't scrap "girls" . So many papers are flowery, it's made me a little grabby about lines and simple geometrics.

I love ledger, grid, and ruled papers but seem to have a hard time finding them, but when I do, I usually buy them. (I remember the scenic route and MM papers, but have used most of those now.) I use grid / ledger papers for both backgrounds and journaling and consider them timeless. And I probably don't need the challenge...... the page I'm working on now is actually on grid paper, and I also considered ledger paper when I started it, but liked the white background of the grid better than the ledger choices.

I hoarded the Basic Grey "basics" too. I think I started with four packs. And I use it! I almost always start with one of them as my background now instead of plain white or kraft cardstock. One suggestion if you're trying to use up that kind of paper? Lightly gesso it. That way you still get the effect of layers and texture but you don't have that too-samey "liney" look on every page. I save a lot of "meh" paper that way.

I am lovin my ledger! I still use it. I have a separate stash of background papers and a lot of it is ledger. I love having it because it makes it easy to have a starting point.

That's funny, I have a lot of ledger paper too, although I think I got rid of most of the ledger paper that had swirls and flourishes on it. Remember that paper?

I'm still liking ledger paper too; I find it is a great neutral background.

I'd love to get some lined or grid paper for journaling but haven't had much luck finding any that's acid free. Any recommendations?

I also buy lots of ledger paper, but I use it a lot. I'm a layerer and it makes for great layers, if not the background itself.

I love ledger paper -- in the hoarding sense. I think I would use it more often if I kept it out. I need to make a tray of items I want to incorporate and keep it on my work desk. Then, just maybe...

So many papers are flowery, it's made me a little grabby about lines and simple geometrics. Ditto. Since my primary scrap subject is our son, I also collect geometric patterned papers. I'd love to get some lined or grid paper for journaling but haven't had much luck finding any that's acid free. Any recommendations? An option is to create your own grid/lined/ledger/etc. at incompetech.com & print onto cardstock. Note it does not fill an entire 8.5x11 sheet & the website prints about a 1/4" from the bottom. HTH

That is what works for me. I have a special paper container with only background papers in it. When I've used up a paper line and purge I always pull out any that would make a good background and put in this container. I keep it out and use it a lot.

It's a terrible picture taken by my phone in the evening, but here's what I came up with, ledger background paper and all! Also I'm not sure why flicker cut off the edge of my photo, but there is a multicolored stripe on the right hand side that tires all the colors together. flic.kr/p/qGrtvG

I am partial to graph paper, but I have some ledger, ruled, all that, but mine is mostly actually that type of paper, not scrapbook pattern paper. I pick it up at garage sales. I mostly use it for journaling, it works great in my manual typewriter. I think it works good in little snippets, like maybe just tucked behind a photo or a strip for embellishing.

I have to keep reminding myself that no one is going to look at my albums and know whether I did a certain layout during the height of ledger paper popularity or a couple years after it went out of style.

I love the ledger paper too, it can cover any subject any era. You can use the old school book style for more historic pages and use the more modern style for EVERYTHING. I tend to journal a lot so it has that added benefit. When I purge I don't ever see is as something that goes out of style, I still like it as much now as I did when I purchased it. I also love the map paper and the grid paper.

Ok, I've made an effort to use some of my ledger paper. This is actually just some old school type paper I've had for a long time that I've tucked under the photo and journaling mat.

I have bought a few ledger papers. I figured out pretty quickly that I don't really use them, so at least I have stopped buying them.

I also have a great fondness for ledger paper; it's one of my weaknesses. (along with plaid patterns, which I hardly ever use on my pages, but can't stay away from either, lol!)
I think a page with a collage of all different sorts (colors, line-widths, etc) might be a fun way to make a page background. (and get me to cut into a lot of it, too-- haha!) ETA: I also have a stash of that lined paper that kids use when they're learning how to print-- you know, the kind with two solid lines and a dashed one in the middle?? I don't know why I keep it, because the spaces are way too big, really, for my writing to use for journaling, and the paper isn't large enough or strong enough to use as a SB page background.

I love ledger paper. when it comes in paper packs, I pull it out and set it aside with the other ledger papers I have. I live to use it for journaling cards.

Nice job Chinagirl. I seem to resist using Ledger as a layer because I have the idea in my head that i bought it for background paper and should only use it as a background. I'll need to get over that!
