I'm bringing my DBF to Cincy this weekend for his birthday. We have been surprising each other with destination birthdays for the last couple years. My dad is from Cincy so I grew up on Cincy Chili /Skyline but I need ideas of things we can do and places we can eat. I want to take him to Montgomery Inn for ribs one night for dinner but what else do we do as tourists. We love hop on/off buses to get to know a city but I don't think Cincy has that. We also like ghost tours. We are actually staying in Covington. We aren't sports people. Are there boat cruises along the river or a casino or tours that I can look up? I need some ideas. I know it will be fun so I want to plan some things. I know there is an exhibit of Diana's dresses. Nothing that would appeal to him much but if I give him enough "him" time, he'll go quietly to the dresses!
Thanks!

We love to go to Hofbrau Haus for German food. We also love Dewey's Pizza and Graeter's for ice cream. There's a museum there that has a lot of Charley Harper art--love his stuff!

Ah, I wondered about DBF/typo, but then I thought I was probably just out of the loop on some new abbreviations!

I live between Cincy and Dayton. If you like tours check out this website: www.americanlegacytours.com/I took their Christmas tour and really enjoyed it. I would like to take the Underground tour next. The Cincy Museum Center has the Princess Diana Exhibit right now. We are its last stop before returning to England (I'm pretty sure that's what I heard). The Horseshoe Casino is in/near downtown. They have many restaurants. I've eaten at The Spread and Jimmy Buffet's restaurant. Don't waste your time going to Jimmy's place...it was awful. Loved The Spread. You could also go up to Dayton to the Wright Patterson Airforce museum. It is free. Check the hours before you go. I went for the first time over Memorial Day when my parents were here. We all enjoyed it. There is also Serpent Mound an Indian Effigy (?sp). Fort Ancient is another place with Indian history. Miller's Amish bakery, dry goods store, and furniture store in West Union. If you go get a pretzel sandwich from the dry goods store. It was simple but delish! Hopefully, someone else will chime in with other activities. You can always message me with any questions.

Some how I missed that you knew about the exhibit. Ugh.
Yes there are river cruises, I think there is also a Duck tour. Those will be out of the Kentucky side in Newport; which is near Covington. Also, in Newport is the aquarium. If you stay on the "8 Ball" highway and go past Newport there is a cute little river town called Bellvue. It has been awhile since I was there but I remember an ice cream parlor and some antique shops. You might want to also check out the restaurant on the upper level of the Raddison Hotel in Covington. It has been a long time since I ate there but it was very good when I went. Pricey tho. The restaurant rotates.

I like Newport on the Levee and walking the Purple People Bridge. There's seafood, sushi, Irish and casual restaurants there. We always hit Tom & Chee's. It's a grilled cheese and tomato soup place. On crack. Lol! Plus parking is easy there.

I like Newport on the Levy too and the Purple People Bridge. The aquarium at the levy is nice and there is shopping and food. I tried Montgomery Inn when we lived near there, but did not really care for it. The Cinncinatti Chili, I finally learned to like the four way and the CC on mac and cheese was pretty good. There is a restaurant that is on a boat on the Ohio River that a lot of people like to eat at. I can't remember the name of it, but I know that one time it broke loose and all we had on all local stations for hours, was the rescue of the people and the boat. I think that it is owned by one of the past Bengals players. If you eat there, take a life jacket with you. ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) There is also the Cincinnati Zoo. It is really nice and has a botanical garden that is beautiful. If you are afraid of bugs, don't go in the insect house. I think it is Devoe Park, on the KY side of the river, that has a great view of Cincinnati, the Creation Museum is in KY, not far from Cincinnati. Watch out for "Over the Ryan" (in downtown Cincy). A lot of people get dead there. It seemed every single day, someone would be killed. There are some attractions there, but you have to weigh the risk. I would never willingly go there.

Over the Rhine is making a comeback. I recently took my young son to Washington Park and attended a Pixar themed concert at Music Hall. Lots of new and upcoming restaurants are there too. The city has really made an effort to clean that area up. Of course there's still some sketchy areas. But I think that's true for any larger city.
I wanted to add Findlay Market as a place to go. I haven't been there yet this summer.

Riverboat cruises: B&B riverboats - bbriverboats.com Duck Rides: link
(newport.ridetheducks.com) I don't know if my links will work. I hope they do! There are several different brewery tours just google brewery tours cincinnati Over-The-Rhine (OTR) is not as bad as it used to be. The city has worked hard to clean it up and there are many new restaurants/bars in the area. The brewery tours are mostly in OTR but you will be fine on a tour. The Moerlein Lager House is on the river and is a nice restaurant. Call and make reservations (especially if there is a Reds game in town). The Newport Aquarium is fun and is located on Newport on the Levee which has many restaurants. It is a beautiful view of Cincinnati. I agree with a previous poster about the Hofbrau Haus. It's fun. The Queen City Sausage Festival is in Newport from July 11 - 13.

Hofbrau House - good beer and german food
Hyde Park - cool little shops and restaurants. There was sushi place up there, that I used to love. My mind is drawing a blank since I haven't been to Cincinnati in 6 years now.
Graeter's Ice Cream - the thing I miss the most about Cincinnati
Findlay Market - cool little outdoor market with farmer's market style shops.
