Oh I read that the father's polygraph was inconclusive. I'm glad he was found and hope he has other family who will take care of him.

The father's reaction just seems fake to me. My thoughts exactly. Didn't know he passed a polygraph though. Weird! Melissa

I saw an interview with Nancy Grace this morning. She is the one that told the father (live, while interviewing him for her show) that his son was alive. The small portion that I saw, I felt like the father was faking his response. But she felt like he was telling the truth. I don't like her, or her show, but by now she has a pretty decent radar and she believed him.
I don't know what to think. They said that the family, the police and the FBI had searched the home-including the basement and no one found the boy at that time. So who to believe??

I read that story last night and thought it sounded odd as well. The article I read did say that the father had passed a polygraph test, but that the step-mother had refused to take one. Makes sense because the boy stated the step mom was helping him hide.

Crazy. It sounds like the father had hot the the boy with a pipe and the step mom was helping the boy hide- maybe to keep him safe from abuse?
Even so, a series of hidden underground doors and rooms and connecting to other houses and the street? WTH? Unless this was a historic home ...maybe revolutionary ties or underground railroad... wth are they doing down there?
Glad the boy was found safe but wonder if the father is abusing him and if it will get worse unless CPS gets involved.

I thought the same thing when I saw it on Good Morning America today.
That boy is old enough to sneak out in the middle of the night and go to a friend's/neighbor's if he needed help. Wonder what the real story is???

It's odd that the FBI etc searched that basement. I don't think he was there the entire time. The young boy's comments will be telling.

Oh I read that the father's polygraph was inconclusive. I'm glad he was found and hope he has other family who will take care of him. My mistake. I went back and read the article again. It just says the father took the test, while the step-mother declined to do so. My brain jumped the gun. No worries at all. I was just wondering if there had been an update but hadn't googled yet to see!

I saw this is on Nancy Grace last night. So bizaree. Although something similar happened with my sister back in the 80's. The police dogs were called in etc. They searched the garage. Neighbors found her sleeping in a little cubby in the same garage a day later. We still tell that story.

I don't know. His reaction sure seemed strange to me. If my son had been missing for 11 days and I was told he was found alive, I'd be ripping off the mic from the interview and leaving to get to my child. Not that everyone must respond as I would, but it just seemed like a contrived reaction to me. I hadn't heard of this story prior to this, so I'm basing my suspicions purely on his reaction on camera. No Oscar for him.

My brain went to "why in the hell did Nancy Grace have this information and hold it until she had the dad in front of the camera? " She is a piece of work, for sure. I did think the dad's reaction was strange, too. He knows something.

If my kid had been found, that would have been the end of the interview. I'd be on my way home.
I wonder if law enforcement asked her to tell him on air. Anything that's recorded can be picked apart and analyzed. (I'm recalling the video of Terri Horman (Kyron's step mom) being picked apart).

An article that I read speculated that the family may have been using this as a scam to raise money to help 'search' for the boy. Not sure I feel that was the case, but it could be one explanation for such a weird story.

Exactly, I thought the father just looked shocked and really we can't judge because to get this kind of info on live air, he had to have found it weird as well. I believe the father because the FBI and the police searched his basement.

We live not far from the city. This story gets weirder and weirder. And beginning to show an unsavory side of the dad and step mom. supposedly step mom hid boy in basement. no food or drink. their other two children were removed from the house because the doctors found signs of child abuse. the boy had bruises and scars and was reportedly beaten with a pvc pipe. www.freep.com/article/20140627/NEWS01/306270113/Charlie-Bothuell-stepmother-probation

I think it was no coincidence they found the boy when the father was occupied with being on Nancy Grace.
Sounds like the step-mother AND FATHER were abusers (something about father beat him with a pvc pipe?)--and who knows what the deal is with his birth mother he is now with since she didn't have custody to begin with.
That whole Nancy Grace reaction from the father was faker than FAKE...he was upset because he's been found out is all...

Nancy Grace is a horrible person. Horrific.
I'm not sure about the dad, but it's odd for sure!

I thought his reaction was fake too. I found it odd that he didn't ask of the boy was okay. Nancy Grace told him they found the son and he tries to look shocked but doesn't inquire whether the kid is alive and okay seems very strange to me.

Nancy Grace is a complete ass. I wanted to punch her when I saw that interview. I don't understand how she keeps a job.

I saw that interview and I thought the same thing, that the dad's reaction was very unnatural. The look on his face said it all: "Oh shit, the jig is up. What do I do now?"

I don't think the child built the secret room and placed the item in it. The father did seem fishy when he was told.

I also thought it seemed weird when she told him, one of the first things he said was his phone was in the car. If the police are looking for your son why on earth would you part with your phone?
