Technically not scrappy related, but paper crafting related. I have to make 60 owl cupcake toppers for a birthday party tomorrow. Yes, I waited until today to do them, but I did make a few earlier in the week as prototypes and it was fast and easy. It's three sections, the back is solid cardstock, the middle is the same as the back but patterned paper and the front is the same cardstock but with feathers, wings and eyes cut out (to show the patterned paper), all sandwiched together on a toothpick. I'm using SCAL, so on each 12x12 mat I can make all three layers for five owls. They're pretty cute. But after cutting 25 today Cricut was over it. So I unplugged it, closed the doors on it's cabinet and it's been resting for about 3 hours (I floated in the pool, because I'm not in time out. ) {deep breath} Ok, I'm going back in. Wish me luck. PS - When I'm finished I'll try to post one. If I can remember my photobucket password.

What a cute idea! I hope your machine comes back to life so you can finish. If not, put all the cupcakes on a platter and distribute the toppers you made across them and it will still show off the cute decoration before you serve the cupcakes.

Well I got 53 before Cricut started acting up again. LOL! Here are three. I used scraps to do most of them, so it was like purging paper. Yay! It worked!

Love the 'time out' idea. Mine goes haywire every so often and needs one of those too. Look forward to seeing your toppers.

Very cute! Tomorrow I need to sit down with my Cricut and make some 'fair animals' for our 4-H clubs fair display. I hope I don't have to put my Cricut into a time out

Great idea and so cute. I hope your Cricut comes back and does its job. I actually hope it dies for good, then I can justify getting a Silhouette! Thanks everyone! They're not as scary in person. I'm stopping with 7 short. We're going to put most in the cupcakes (my sister is making those) and the some in the dip bowls and poked into veggies. Whatever is not poked into something, I'm going to pull the picks out and scatter them on the food table. DH thinks I'm crazy for making them. He said "They're just gonna take it out (of the cupcake) lick off the frosting and throw it away". Typical!

Thanks everyone!
TracyC - the paper was tearing and it would "skip". It was going along fine then it would just get wonky. I never change the speed or pressure, only the blade depth. 2 or 3 for cheap paper (ie thin), 4 for Michael's cardstock and most big brand patterned papers, and 5 for Bazzill cardstock. Usually it only skips on cheap paper but rarely cardstock. If a mat and blade clearing doesn't work then a "time out" (turn off and unplug) usually does.

Those are cute!
I waited until my Cricut needed regular "time outs" before making the Cameo plunge. So glad I did!

These are super cut!
***word to the wise*** Always keep plenty of 'back-up' machines because it never fails that a machine goes on hiatus when it's a time-critical cut you need. This is how I justify my hoarded machines from 2 extra Cricuts, 3 Revolutions, 2 Cuttlebugs, 3 Big Shots, 2 Red Sizzix, 3 QK hand tools, 4 tag-alongside, etc...!!
