Gay romance is much hotter. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg) Not long ago I got a free Kindle romance book that was about two gay men. It was good. Until I got to the word "taint". I just couldn't do it anymore after that. Sometimes the words authors use can just kill their entire book!

There's a book on Amazon right now, free on Kindle, that is about unrealistic expectations that women have because of Nora Roberts. It has pretty good reviews and the idea is pretty smart. Nora Roberts gave her permission for the title of the first book: Nora Roberts LandDescription: Journalist Meredith Hale's ex-husband claimed her Nora Roberts addiction gave her unrealistic expectations about marriage, and she believed him. All dreams of happily ever after--or Nora Roberts Land as her mother calls it--went up in smoke. But when her family asks her to temporarily help their Dare Valley, Colorado newspaper, she decides it's time to change her life and prove her ex wrong. She's determined to find her own small-town Nora Roberts hero, prove that true love exists, and publish a story about her quest. War correspondent Tanner McBride has just returned stateside to work for a major newspaper, and the last thing he expects is blackmail. Yet, before he can even unpack, he's headed to Colorado. His assignment? Make his boss's ex-wife fall for him and then break her heart. Her article about discovering love à la Nora might air dirty laundry about her marriage to the media mogul, threatening his senate run. The mogul wants Meredith stopped, and he makes sure Tanner has no choice in the matter. When the two meet, the sparks between them are undeniable. Meredith, who vowed never to date another journalist, begins to succumb. Could Tanner be her Nora Roberts hero? As they work together to uncover the truth behind a suspicious death, the depth of their feelings unfolds and both realize they've kept their secrets for far too long. But before the truth can be revealed, their investigation takes a deadly turn, one that might make Meredith's personal Nora Roberts Land go up in flames.

I'm a Stuart Woods fan, but lordy, there should be a law against him including sex scenes. He's soooooo bad at it. I swear he has used cut and paste to insert them. That and his flippin' haricots verts in every book. They are green beans!

No male characters ever finish before the female has her bra unhooked, leaving her wondering why she missed the first three minutes of her favorite show for that. That is TOO funny! I like a good romance, but I don't want to read about the um "act".

I used to love romance novels, but for some reason I grew out of them and can no longer tolerate reading cheesy sex scenes. I just can't do it anymore. I think I would go blind from the extreme eye-rolling that would go on if I read one now. I still like romance in a novel, but it can't be cheesy, the heroine has to be strong, and I don't want to read descriptions about anyone's orgasms. Same here!

Ha ha ha! Every time I hear the word "taint" I think of Virginia (Compwalla) saying, "You are supposed to stop at the taint!" from the how do you wipe thread. Classic stuff there!

My aunt is an avid romance novel reader, and decided to try writing a few. The first one was so poorly written that I offered to proofread the second one. I am not a fan of the genre, and besides being awkward, it was a painful process. Now she has sent me a third one, and I have been seriously procrastinating reading it. I love my aunt dearly, and just focus on the positive points. They are available on Amazon, Nook, etc. for about $1. Bless her heart.

Girl, if that's happening to you, you either need to upgrade or educate.

Everytime I read a J.D. Robb book it doesn't take long for sex to ensue. I just skip right over it. I really dont want to read that fictional characters have a better sex life than I do.

It's not a genre I read often. Once I suffered through a book that referred to the male member as a bratwurst and a quiver rod in the same book.
I couldn't roll my eyes hard enough.

And without fail it is always throbbing. My thumb throbs when I slam it in the drawer. I don't really want throbbing in bed.

I feel the same way re: sex scenes in movies or on tv shows. Is it because we are or have been married and realize our fantasies of what we thought it would be like are so wrong??? Haha!!

I actually think males should be required to read those ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/Q_m8lDOvc_3Le3r1GKdf.jpg) Now you KNOW guys don't pay attention to instructions. Instructions? Nah it's manners. Simple manners that are no longer taught. It's such a tragedy that manners have fallen by the wayside I tell ya. Is it any wonder our grandmothers always told us "ladies first" ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/Q_m8lDOvc_3Le3r1GKdf.jpg)

I have a good friend that is a romance writer (she has sold over 5 million books). You should hear her talk about her writing. For her it is all very perfunctory. She basically knows what her readers want and she writes it. She is also very defensive about her writing (and I guess I would be too if I had made as much money as she has). She will tell you her characters are deep and her plots are well-thought out. As for me, I think her writing is junk, her characters shallow and her stories have no plots. Now obviously I don't tell her this, I keep my opinions to myself but it is fascinating to watch her talk about her writing. Another thing that I think is so interesting is that you give her a newspaper article to write or a blog post and her writing is barely average.........................amazing.................I also have another friend that has written a book that is climbing up the Amazon charts, she already has an agent and there is talk of a movie..........her books is literary fiction and has some "meat" to it. Anytime she writes anything whether it be on Facebook, a blog post, or a newspaper article, you can see her excellent writing skills in everything she does...............fascinating to watch.................I enjoy this kind of stuff. Your first friend sounds like a female version of James Patterson. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg) I would love a link to your second friend's book! I'm not a huge romance novel fan. I used to read lots of them and just got tired of the same basic story line, not to mention the silly sex scenes! Now, I love me a really well-written sex scene, but too many are just soooooo bad!

I started reading this thread at about 5 am this morning and I was laughing so hard that I woke dh and the dogs up. You guys are absolutely hysterical and I had to clean my monitor of coffee more than once. My poor, shocked and totally embarrassed (but loving it) dh read some of the comments and he said that most men would fall over laughing over the 'throbbing member' but then would secretly worry about their own member not 'throbbing' enough. Lordy, I love this place.
