I have been buying Studio Calico Handbooks for the past couple of years and I really like them, but they are in the middle of changing over their design, and there is no real availability. I used SN@P albums before, but I'm not nuts about them -- I don't like how my photos swim in the protectors, and I don't decorate album covers, so the chipboard cover isn't great for me (I haven't tried the newer non-chipboard version).
Has anyone used the Becky Higgins 6*8 binder albums? How do those stack up? Do you have any other recommendations? I find these a handy size for vacation albums and don't want to start falling behind while waiting for SC to get in gear.

With the BH albums, you still use the same type of page protectors as SN@P. You just don't have to decorate the covers. I have used the Bo Bunny small albums - they are pretty and don't have to decorate. But yes, they use the same type of protectors except these are 3 hole punch instead of 2 holes.

The BH albums that are 6x8 have way better page protectors than Snap. The quality isn't necessarily better but the size of the pockets is much better. Snap pockets are entirely too large!

I use the Snap pleather albums with a mix of BH and Snap page protectors. Really happy with the album quality.
