I went to Macy's just now to exchange a Christmas gift. Found the items I needed and the exchange went smoothly. I left the store with no problems and went on my merry way. My husband asked to see the stuff I got when I got home. I pulled the stuff out of the bag and one of the security tags was left on!!! Grrrr! I didn't even beep when I left the store!
And of course it is one of those ink pack tags, or else I would attempt to take it off myself.
Note to self, pay attention to security tag removal from now on!

I have also had this happen -- at Macy's. So annoying to have to go back, and so much for those tags activating some kind of alarm when you leave the building.

When I worked at Old Navy in college we had sensor pads built in to our counters that would make an annoying BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP noise to notify you of a security tag. Seems like a good investment for Macy's!

I heard there are YouTube videos that will show you how to remove them.

I heard there are YouTube videos that will show you how to remove them. Is it really worth the risk vs just going back to the store. Alarms will probably sound when the op reenters the store.

I heard there are YouTube videos that will show you how to remove them. I know how to remove them after years of working retail (no I'm not a shoplifter) but this one has the ink pack, I'm not going to risk ruining a cute new top because of an employee's mistake. Luckily the store is only 5 mins away, but grrrr an errand I didn't want to have!

I will count myself lucky that it is just a work out tank, so at the very least I would just be disappointed before a run, not a vacation!

I placed an order for my daughter (Kohls) and one of the pants she ordered came with a security tag on it. Through. the. mail. Not a big deal because I was headed that way anyhoo and Kohls in my little town usually not that busy, but, WTH, how does that happen? Because it was me, probably!

Ok now that is the weirdest thing I've ever heard! I know from being in charge of receiving at Old Navy that we would get clothes with security tags already attached from the warehouse, but I never had anyone come in with an online purchase with a plastic security tag on it.

I had one left on at Burlington Coat Factory--on a nursing bra that was maybe $10. Seriously, who the heck is going to steal that? The store wasn't convenient to me so I looked on YouTube to figure out how to get the stupid thing off. I got it off all right, but also made a nice 1/4" hole in the stupid thing! Grrr.
A couple months ago, I bought a top for my DD at Herberger's Outlet and didn't realize it until I was home. It didn't make any noise at all going OUT of the store, but it set off every stinking buzzer coming back IN! Some security system that is! And because it was during one of those "blow it all out" clearance sales I'm sure it was under $5.

I bought a new coat at Macy's for a New York trip and luckily saw the tag was left on it as I was packing. I stuck the receipt in the pocket and took it to a Macy's in NYC to have it removed. What is the point of the tags if they don't set off an alarm as you leave the store?

I'm sure I will beep on my way in. Great way to deter shoplifting, Macy's!

Macy's, huh?
Happened to me once with a coat I bought there at the very end of the season. I did not wear it until the following winter. Had no idea the tag was still on until a friend pointed it out. I had worn it a few times. They gave me a hard time when I went back to have them take it off. I no longer had a receipt. It had been months! It's not as if they even had the same coat for sale.
It happened again recently. I had walked out of the store, through the entire mall and was leaving another department store all the way at the other end to go to the parking lot when I set their alarm off. Actually drove around the mall to go back before Macy's closed and then the clerk did not know how to take it off!!! No wonder!

melissa I wish I had taken the bag to Target after I was done at Macy's! I would have known before I left the mall!

Happened to me at Nordstrom (well, my mother, who bought a sweater for my daughter). When I returned to get it removed, they were not only really apologetic, but told me that they send people out to events to remove the tag if you call in. I do not know if they do that for ordinary my-sweater-has-a-security-device cases, or if Macy's offers a similar service, but it may be worth calling if the store is inconvenient.

The ink ones won't set of sensor alarms. What a pain for you. I know some stores give gift cards when that happens.

This happened to me at an American Eagle at an outlet mall 2 hours from my home. I took it to the closest one to me (20-25 mins away) and they did not use the same type of security tags as the store at the outlet did. Finally someone was able to find the correct tool to remove it, but what a pain!

I bought a bathing suit from La Vie En Rose online and it came with a security tag. I took it to the mall tot have them take it off but they don't have security in the store. They found on ancient "thing" to try to remove it but it took about 3 employees to actually get the thing off.
Why the security online and not in the store? It is weird ...

My daughter was shopping with her cousin on Black Friday and got something from Hot Topic that they did not take the sensor off of.
When I met up with her and the buzzer kept going off she said don't worry about that sound it goes off in every store I walk into.
I said let me look at your stuff... she had no idea what could have been causing it.
When we went back the first sales person treated me like a thief.... even though I had the receipt!!
The manager came over and gave my daughter a 10 off coupon for her trouble. He was really sweet and apologized for our trouble.

That happened this Christmas with a full size bed, sherpa blanket that I bought at TJMaxx. The clerk looked at me like I had three heads when I showed the receipt to prove I purchased it. No alarm sounded when I left the store when purchased it or when I returned it to the store.

I had this happen as well. DH bought me a bear dressed for winter and sat in on top of my Christmas gifts. There was the tag on his ear! He got out of the store and didn't notice it even when it was sitting on the gift pile. LOL

I have had that happen twice at Macy's. The first I returned and they gave me an X% off coupon as an apology. The second is a top I bought last June. It's still in my closet and I keep forgetting to bring it back in.

I took it back and the clerk was really apologetic. They didn't give me any kind of coupon or anything, but I wasn't expecting that at all. I spent more time driving to the store than I did inside of it.

Last year I bought a couple of dresses from Macy's for a formal event to try on at home. I tried them both on at the store and at home, decided which one to keep and went to return the other one.
The one I returned had a security device still on it. Even trying the dress on twice, leaving and returning to the store with no alarms going off, I didn't see the device until the sales clerk was processing the return. We both had a good laugh, but it did make me wonder what the purpose of the device was.
